Tilt Shift Maker

Tiltshiftmaker.com is a free website that allows you crate an effect similar to that produced using a tilt shift lens (the wrong way). It allows you modify a suitable image to make it appear to have a narrow depth of field; this fools the eye into thinking that the image is of a model or miniature subject. The best way to understand it is to look at the samples below or some of the sample images in the tiltshiftmaker website.

Not all images are suitable, if you could fake the effect with any image then there would be no need for the lens. It works best with images that already have small subjects, aerial photos or those taken from buildings, images of architecture also seem to work well, the only way really to know is to give it a try.

We tried it on a few of our images, it was as simple of cutting and pasting from the “copy image location” of our preview photos into tilstshitmaker to give it a test. As an alternative you can try out some of their sample images, browse a gallery of images other people have 'miniaturised' or upload a photo from your own computer. Here's the results from a couple of images from freeimageslive:

New Search Features

We've added some new search fetaures to the site. Our new image search contains preview pictures, stemmed keywording (plurals are automatically searched). You can now add freeimageslive search to your browsers opensearch bar (firefox 2+ and explorer 7+)

You can also subscribe to xml feed of new images added to the site and you will automatically be informed in your feed aggregator (such as google reader) when new images matching your terms are added, to get the feed URL just perform a search and the RSS icon at the bottom of the search results will link to the feed. more about this on our developers information page where developers can find more information about integrating the search into their application or website.

FreeimagesLive is Alive

We are proud to announce the launch of a new section of freeimages which allows users to photographer, illustrators and designers to upload their work to the site for use by others. In doing so our contributors can receive feedback from other visitors in the form of comments and can use their images/designs to leverage valuable self-promotion and SEO improvements.

Users who use such images are required to link back to the images page on the site and include the contributors profile name as a credit line.
Each uploaded image is accompanied by a profile description of the user who contributed it, and each user profile can include link(s) to a website the contributor chooses.
Over recent years "Can I upload my own images" has been one of the most common requests we have heard at freeimages - now we are ready to accept those photographs.

This news feed will eventually replace our mailing list news updates.
