Security Process Explorer is an enhanced task manager, that provides advanced information about programs and processes running on the computer. It displays all the standard information, including file name, directory path, description, CPU usage etc. as well as a unique security risk rating. This rating is conclusive and relies on the expertise of the user to determine whether the process should be terminated or removed.

Security Process Explorer allows you to monitor CPU and memory usage graphs per process, view detailed processes information (with descriptions), stop and start new processes, set priorities and much more. You can easily find and remove unnecessary background processes as well as assigning more resources to demanding processes like games, realtime multimedia applications and cd writing softwares.

Replacing Task Manager

If you click File > Replace Task Manager, Security Process Explorer integrates itself into your system so that you can access the module by pressing Ctrl+Alt+Del, or by right clicking on an empty part of the taskbar and selecting Task Manager.

If you want to use the Windows Task Manager again, simply select the same menu item to remove the check mark in front of it.

Menu bar functions

The menu bar at the top of the Process Manager window provides you with additional functions.

Click File > New Tasks(Run...) to open the Windows Run dialog, which you can use to start a new application or open a file.

Click File > Exit Windows to shut down or restart the computer so that new settings can take effect.

If you have selected a process in the list, you can click Edit > Set Process Priority to specify how much processing power Windows should assign to this process.

I2P Anonymous Network

The I2P project was formed in 2003 to support the efforts of those trying to build a more free society by offering them an uncensorable, anonymous, and secure communication system. I2P is a development effort producing a low latency, fully distributed, autonomous, scalable, anonymous, resilient, and secure network. The goal is to operate successfully in hostile environments. even when an organization with substantial financial or political resources attacks it. All aspects of the network are open source and available without cost, as this should both assure the people using it that the software does what it claims, as well as enable others to contribute and improve upon it to defeat aggressive attempts to stifle free speech.

Anonymity is not a boolean - we are not trying to make something "perfectly anonymous", but instead are working at making attacks more and more expensive to mount. I2P is a low latency mix network, and there are limits to the anonymity offered by such a system, but the applications on top of I2P, such as Syndie, I2P mail, and I2PSnark extend it to offer both additional functionality and protection.

I2P is still a work in progress. It should not be relied upon for "guaranteed" anonymity at this time, due to the relatively small size of the network and the lack of extensive academic review. It is not immune to to attacks from those with unlimited resources, and may never be, due to the inherent limitations of low-latency mix networks.

A lot of people overlook mcrsft's SkyDrive for free, web-based file storage and sharing. Still, it's tough to argue with 25gb of free space for your digital goodies that you can access from anywhere. SkyDrive Explorer is a free shell enhancement for Windows that makes it even better.

Once you install SkyDrive Explorer, you'll see a new icon in My Computer (under "Other"). Double click it to open your drive, and a Live login window will appear. Sign in and you've got full-on access to SkyDrive right from Windows Explorer. Add files and folders, move things around, delete old junk - all as if they were stored on your local hard drive.

I'd like to see the app allow access to SkyDrive from open and save dialogs, but it's a great addition to Windows even without that functionality.

The current version of OperaTor ships with Opera's “Enable fraud protection” option turned on by default (in Preferences, Advanced, Security.)

THIS MAKES OPERA DO A PLAIN, UNENCRYPTED DNS REQUEST FOR EVERY WEBSITE YOU VISIT

It is easily shown using a network analyzer software, such as Wireshark (which is the first thing I did after installing OperaTor.) It's probably been like this for a long time, if not for ever. This single bug renders the whole OperaTor pointless, as Opera BROADCASTS THE SITES YOU VISIT to your ISP, employer, or anybody else in your local network.

This shows several things:
Never take your online security for granted, double-check everything by yourself; if you can't, because it's not your field of expertise, then:
Avoid using proprietary software like Opera, because you CANNOT know what they do; and
Use only security packages sanctioned by known security experts, such as the pre-configured portable browsers you can download from Tor's homepage. Also,
The developer of OperaTor didn't even think of running a network analyzer, not even once (no offense meant) so there are probably other security shortcomings in this package.

I advice every OperaTor user to switch to another security software RIGHT NOW and cross their fingers in the hope their past activities were not detected."

Master Boot Record

Master Boot Record is a hidden area on your hard drive that contains all information about disk partitions (sometimes also called volumes or logical drives). If it gets erased or damaged, you may completely lose access to your data.

Lost or deleted partitions can be found with Partition Find and Mount. In the easiest case, if MBR is the only structure that is corrupted, it will take just a second for Partitions Find & Mount to find all partitions!

The Xirrus Wi-Fi Inspector is a powerful tool for managing and troubleshooting the Wi-Fi on a Windows XP or Vista laptop. Built in tests enable you to characterize the integrity and performance of your Wi-Fi connection.

You can use Wi-Fi Inspector for searching for and locating Wi-Fi networks, such as hotspots; managing laptop Wi-Fi connections; troubleshooting connectivity issues; verifying the Wi-Fi range you’re getting; and locating rogue access points. I used its four-step process for IP address information that let me know I was communicating with my Wi-Fi network correctly, and ran a series of ping tests to see how my performance was faring. The results of the tests are displayed on a radar-like graphic (showing available Wi-Fi networks, for example) and in table format. You can get at your signal level, security level, and more.

It’s very easy to end up with less than ideal Wi-Fi performance. If Wi-Fi tests let you know that performance is sub-optimal, that’s a good time to experiment with the location and orientation of your router and your access points, among other things.

Wi-Fi Inspector also sends packets to an external Internet server and reports on the actual throughput you’re getting.
