How to Resolve "1607:Unable to install InstallShield Scripting runtime" error message when installing software in Windows XP

When running a software install in Windows XP, you receive the following error message:

There are several options for resolving this issue:

Before attempting any of the following options, we highly recommend stopping any other instances of the Windows Installer:

Right-click the taskbar
click Task Manager
Click the Processes tab
Click Msiexec.exe in the Processes list
Click End Process
Click Yes
Click End Process for each instance of Msiexec.exe
Close Task Manager.

1) Reinstall the InstallScript Engine from InstallShield Developer:

Download the ISScript7.zip file from the InstallShield Web site: http://consumer.installshield.com/kb.asp?id=Q108322
Extract the ISScript7.zip file.
Double-click the ISScript.msi file.

2) Register the Msiexec and the Idriver:

Click Start and Run
Type "C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\Driver\\Intel 32\IDriver.exe" /REGSERVER
click OK.
Note The varies in different computers. It depends on the version of the InstallScript engine.
Click Start and Run
Type C:\Windows\System32\msiexec.exe /REGSERVER
click OK.

3) Verify Permissions C:\Windows\Installer directory for the Account you are using to try and install the software:

Login with an Administrator account
Click Start
Click All Programs
Click Accessories
Click Windows Explorer
Click Folder Options on the Tools menu
Click the View tab
Click Show hidden files and folder
Click OK
Locate the folder C:\Windows\Installer
Right-click the Installer folder
Click Properties
Click the Security tab
Click System
Verify that the Full control check box is selected
Click Administrators
Verify that the Full control check box is selected
Click the user name being used to try and install the software
Verify that the Full control check box is selected

4) When all else fails, re-install Windows XP

After downloading a .PRC file, it has to be moved from the downloads folder to the kindle folder. You will need ES File Explorer or another similar app to perform this task. ES File Explorer is a free app from the Android Google Market.

Start > Run

Enter the following command:
"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\setup50.exe" / APP: OE UNINSTALL / PROMPT

Click on OK

This process will uninstall Outlook Express from your computer

To Turn off UAC in Windows Vista or Windows 7:

Open User Accounts by clicking the Start button , clicking Control Panel, clicking User Accounts and Family Safety (or clicking User Accounts, if you are connected to a network domain), and then clicking User Accounts.

Click Turn User Account Control on or off. If you are prompted for an administrator password or confirmation, type the password or provide confirmation.

Clear the check box "Select the Use User Account Control (UAC) to help protect your computer", and then click OK.

OR

start --> run
msconfig
go to the tools tab
click on disable uac settings (requires a restart)
click launch
drag bar down
Click OK

Windows Security will begin generating pop ups to notify you that UAC is disabled.

To disable the User Account Control status warning message:

Start-> type Regedit in the search bar and navigate to the following
key:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Security Center

Add the following value:
Data Type: DWORD
Value Name: UACDisableNotify
Value: 1

Restart the Security Center service or restart the computer for the change to take effect.

An easy way to make this determination:

Microsoft Outlook Closes When Minimized

When clicking the minimize icon in Microsoft Outlook, it appears to close and does not show in the taskbar.

Resolution:

Right click the Outlook Icon in the lower right (near the System Clock)
Uncheck "hide when minimized"

Cannot Rename or Delete a Profile in Windows XP

When attempting to rename or delete a user profile in Windows XP, you may encounter an error message, "Error: Cannot Rename File In Use" or "Error: Cannot Delete File In Use".

Resolution:
Make sure you are not attempting to rename or delete the profile for the account you are logged in with.

Right Click My Computer
click Manage
expand System Tools
expand Local Users And Groups

inspect the contents of the Administrators group

If the user account you are trying to rename or delete is listed in the Administrators group, you will have to remove it from the Administrators group

Then reboot

you will now be able to delete or rename the user profile

GoldMine cannot find a GoldMine License on your system

GoldMine cannot find a GoldMine License on your system. The License file is required to start GoldMine. Click Browse to locate the file license.bin

Resolution:

Open up regedit

Navigate to: HKLM\System\currentcontrolset\control\mediaproperties\privateproperties\Joystick\Winmm

Right click the key

Grant Domain Users Full Permission

Click OK

You can now use GoldMine in a Terminal Services or Citrix Environment

This can be done by placing a small statement in the Visual Basic Editor within Excel.

1) Accessing the Visual Basic Editor in Excel:

For Excel 2003:
Click Tools
Macros
Visual Basic

Click Developer tab
Click Visual Basic
(If the developer tab is not showing, click the MS Office button, click popular, check Show Developer Tab)

When trying to manually update a video card driver you get the result:
"An error occurred during the installation of the device. Access is denied."

Resolution:
Open regedit and navigate to:
hkcr\igfx.cuiservice.1\clsid

Edit permissions to as follows:
administrators - full control
system - full control but check the box for deny "set value"

If this does not work, use processmon to monitor access denied results that occur in the registry during installation and set the same permissions as instructed above.

How to Reinstall or Fix Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) and Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service‏

Create a batch file with the following content:

cd /d %windir%\system32

Net stop vss

Net stop swprv

regsvr32 ole32.dll

regsvr32 oleaut32.dll

regsvr32 vss_ps.dll

vssvc /register

regsvr32 /i swprv.dll

regsvr32 /i eventcls.dll

regsvr32 es.dll

regsvr32 stdprov.dll

regsvr32 vssui.dll

regsvr32 msxml.dll

regsvr32 msxml3.dll

regsvr32 msxml4.dll

Upon running the batch file if you get one or both of the following errors:

dllregisterserver in swprv.dll failed:
regsvr32 /i swprv.dll returns the error "DLLInstall in swprv.dll
failed. Return Code was: 0x8000ffff"

dllregisterserver in es.dll failed

Followed by the recorded events in the event log with the event ID 12289:

Then there are three events in the event log all event ID 12289 source: VSS

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error RegOpenKeyExW(-2147483646,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost,...). hr = 0x80070005.

And

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error CComModule::RegisterServer(TRUE). hr = 0x80020009.

And

Volume Shadow Copy Service error: Unexpected error RegOpenKeyExW(-2147483646,SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost,...). hr = 0x80070005.

Or when opening the Properties of the hard disk drive and opening the Shadow Copies tab you see the error:
Initialization failed

Error 0x8004230f: the shadow copy provider had an unexpected error while tring to process the specified operation

Or the Microsoft Software Shadow Copy Provider Service is not installed or had been uninstalled or is missing in the services list

Solution:

Run the following three Microsoft Hotfixes in this specific order, and reboot after EACH one has been installed for a total of three reboots:

1.KB 943669

2.KB 975928

3.KB 979457

Give Full Permission to Administrator and System account for the registry 'HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\SvcHost'

And again run the batch file to register the DLLs
