Miles Austin in the past 3 games has more yards, more touchdowns and more of a presence than Williams has in his entire 16 game Cowboy career. (Yards: Austin – 482, Williams 447; TDs: Austin – 5, Williams – 3). What is Williams explanation of this statistical disconnect?

He says it is because quarterback Tony Romo throws good passes to Austin and every other receiver. Williams gets bad passes instead. He cries that he has to stretch, reach and whatever else to catch a ball.

I think there are some old adages about one’s perception is something is true about everybody but you. If only Romo would throw to Williams like he throws to Austin, Williams would be a monster receiver. It is apparent that Williams does not remember the numerous dropped passes, the lazy routes or his inability to get open like the other receivers.

He claims that he and Romo are not on the same page. Think about that. If Austin, Patrick Crayton, Sam Hurd and Jason Whitten are on the same page as Romo, perhaps Williams needs to catch up by turning a few pages in his book to where everybody else is reading.

Williams said about the situation, “It’s not even funny.” That is one statement with which I concur.

What do you think? Clearly Jeter is the face of the Yankees over the past several years. But the best of all time?

When making these assessments, we must avoid two traps of perspective. The first trap is to overvalue the historical. When we see and hear of players in our youth, they may seem larger than life. As we age, those players often grow in stature as we grow up.

The other danger is to overvalue the current. Athletes of today are bigger and faster than their predecessors as a whole. They have had benefited from tremendous exposure in our information age. Admit it, when we see black and white, grainy footage of players from another era, they just don’t look as sleek as our high def stars do.

Having said all of that, I cannot agree that Jeter is the greatest Yankee of all time. I can place him no higher than 5th on my list. Here is my list:

Babe Ruth

Mickey Mantle

Lou Gehrig

Joe Dimaggio

Derek Jeter

Who would be on your list? I’d love to see some answers in the comments section.

I discovered that I had diabetes in February of 2008. I owe this discovery to an episode of M*A*S*H. In this episode a helicopter pilot was grounded by his constant thirst that was due to his diabetes. I had become increasingly thirsty and asked my doctor to check it out.

Once I was diagnosed, I jumped full into fighting the fight. I went from weighing about 275 lbs to weighing about 240. I changed my eating habits. I planned, measured and ate according to what was best.

Since my move to Louisville, I have been too lax about these things. I have gained 10lbs and have not been nearly as disciplined. This month is take control again month.

Consider these statistics:

Nearly 24 million people have diabetes.

Nearly 57 million people are at risk.

Diabetics often suffer nerve damage.

Diabetes is the leading cause of adult blindness.

Diabetes is the leading cause of kidney failure.

2 out of 3 diabetics will die of heart disease or stroke.

Burnett pitched a spectacular Game 2 of the World Series and led the New York Yankees to a win over the Philadelphia Phillies. When he is able to control his pitches, he has a moving fastball and one of the best curves in baseball. He paid dividends last night for the millions the Yankees began paying him this season.

I remember Burnett when he was a high school athlete. My son, Cameron Gantz played against Burnett in baseball and basketball throughout their high school years. Cameron attended Arkansas Baptist High School (ABHS) in Little Rock, Arkansas. Burnett attended rival Central Arkansas Christian (CAC). Both schools had (and still have) strong athletic programs. State championship trophies rest in the display cases at both schools.

In basketball I remember that Cameron had shaved his head prior to the big game at CAC. As the starters met at midcourt for tip-off, Burnett greeted Cameron by rubbing his head.

We had several memorable experiences on the baseball diamond. Cameron was a 4 year starting shortstop for ABHS. I was the assistant baseball coach. 4 years meant that we had several encounters with our conference rival. The 2 schools played at least 12 games against each other in those 4 years.

In the first meeting, Cameron was ejected from his only game. He had bumped into the catcher while scoring a late go ahead run. The catcher turned and threw his mitt at Cameron. The umpire ejected both players.

I had my only ejection the next year by the same ump…for arguing a bad call at second base. He was a little sensitive. So both father and son have been ejected one time each in their athletic lives…both by the same ump.

In Cameron’s senior season, he hit his lone homerun against CAC.

What I most remember about Burnett was the final game of Cameron’s high school career and my final game as a high school coach. We were in the playoffs about an hour east of Little Rock (I believe it was around Lone Oak, Arkansas). The baseball field was just off of Interstate 40 in what appeared to be a cow pasture.

On the mound for CAC was Burnett. Cameron was playing shortstop and batting second in the order. By this time, Burnett was maturing physically and his pitches had some mustard on them.

I don’t think we got a hit off of Burnett that game. I think we only put a few balls in play. It was the most dominating performance I had seen on the high school ranks. Oh, by the way, he also hit a home run to give CAC the lead.

Cameron and I knew that he would be good. Cameron went on to play middle infield at Ouachita Baptist University. Burnett was drafted by the New York Mets and has now put his stamp on the World Series.

After being outplayed by Brees in New Orleans, Manning barely maintains his #5 ranking. He’ll have to regroup or he will probably begin dropping.

6. Tom Brady, New England Patriots

The snow nor the Titans could stop Brady. He set NFL records and catapulted into the 6th spot after not having been ranked yet this season.

7. Matt Schaub, Houston Texans

Schaub is playing very well. He is the highest quarterback on the list that does not have a team with a winning record.

8. Joe Flacco, Baltimore Ravens

Flacco keeps dropping each week as the Ravens continue to lose close games. Many more weeks of this and he will be out of the running.

9. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons

Ryan is neck and neck with fellow second year pro, Flacco.

10. Ben Roethlisberger, Pittsburgh Steelers

Big Ben remains in the last position.

P.S. The lowest ranked quarterback in the league is Kerry Collins of the Tennessee Titans.

So if you have dreams of your future son playing in the NFL, you may need to relocate before your wife gives birth. Only 15 of the 50 states are represented as being the birth state for a starting NFL quarterback.

Where would potential parents move? Head to California, Pennsylvania or Louisiana. Half of the NFL starters were born in these 3 states. A quarter of the starters are from California. Here is the breakdown:

8 QBs – California

5 QBs – Pennsylvania

3 QBs – Louisiana

2 QBs – Mississippi, Alabama, New Jersey, Iowa

1 QB – Texas, Illinois, Colorado, Ohio, Indiana, Kansas, Florida, Oregon
