Drupal Tutorial: Pushing Drupal 6 Core Auto-Complete

Recently I had the task of creating a form that utilized an auto-complete text field that filtered on a specific field of a table. This seemed like a great candidate to use the core auto-complete and after a sprint of information gathering I had what I thought would be enough. After delivery I learned that there was one surprise feature. The auto-complete text field needs to be able to have filters applied to it via-form filter dropdown.

Mapping County Health Rankings: Mapnik, Node.js and PostgreSQL

The third launch of County Health Rankings has been the most exciting out of any of the three due to the mapping component that serves as the primary way to access the rankings.

Mapnik, and Node.js and PostgreSQL — oh my!

Nginx: The Little Web Server That Could

For some time now we have been keeping our eyes on and following the development of Nginx. Nginx is an open source alternative to the ubiquitous Apache web server (the “A” in the LAMP acronym). Just like a lot of web development firms we have always used Apache because “that’s what everybody else does,” however, in recent years we have had more than one run-in with Apache’s taste for RAM, especially when running it with PHP integrated as a module.

Since then, Drupal's growth and the growth of this event have been exciting to watch, and we're thrilled to have our biggest participation ever in the event this year.

We're a Platinum Sponsor – and perhaps most importantly – we'll be debuting new, freshly minted "Nice Nodes" T-shirts along with "Nice Nodes" stickers.

Mobile Storytelling: An Evolving Story

I was recently invited to speak at DUXcamp hosted by NPR and then again at Microsoft Research around the subject of mobile and storytelling. I created a rather stream of consciousness presentation, bringing together various thoughts about storytelling in the mobile space. Still very rough around the edges but a central theme is beginning to emerge: Mobile allows stories to have scale.

Here’s the presentation deck:

WordPress Plugin Integration: Gravity Forms

Today we're going to explore Gravity Forms' form submission hook.

Gravity Forms is a WordPress forms plugin. It lets you visually create public-facing input forms, similar to Wufoo. You're able to build things like website surveys, event registrations, and (multi-step) payment processing forms.

This tutorial explains how to access data from the Wordpress forms plugin Gravity Forms when a form gets submitted.

Here is a list of my favorite Drupal tools that aid in developing, managing, and maintaining a Drupal website.
