Fishing Report Anna Maria Island On Fishy Business

The weather has been nothing short of spectacular here in southwest florida. Also the fishing is some of the best of the year. Tarpon are showing up in better and better numbers each week. And it looks to be a good season for the silver king. Pass crabs have already been flowing on the hard outgoing tides and this should make for some happy fish in the passes.

BIMINI, THE BAHAMAS - For those teams braving a rough crossing to Bimini, the First Annual Billfish Bonanza this past weekend was worth the chop with sails, blues, dolphin and tuna waiting for action.

Fly Fishing in Panama City Florida

Every year I get one or two new clients who come over from the dark side....lol.

What I mean by that is they have fished with other fly fishing guides in the area, or go to a particular group because they are endorsed by a well known long time manufacturer of fly fishing rods and equipment. I had that endorsement 16 years ago, I can tell, you the qualifications then were a lot harder to get through than now. Basically if you can say, "fly fish", breath and stand up your qualified.

Tarpon are still here!

The fishing got back on track this past week with the winds finally coming back around out of the east. The 10 days or so of S.W. to N.W. really put a dent in fishing and made it tough to find Tarpon out in the Gulf of Mexico. The 2 weeks prior Tarpon fishing was excellent from Cape Sable to Shark River and above.

Bottom fishing in Ft Lauderdale

The fishing this week in Fort Lauderdale is great. A lot of action on the reefs and wrecks. Today, we went snapper fishing for a few hours and caught a whole bunch of red snappers. We caught all of these fish in 350ft of water, deep dropping with chicken rigs baited with squid and chunks of bonito.

Like the title says...Right now we have a little of all things fishy biting. The Jacks have remained strong and the Vermillion Snapper bite has been phenomenal since spring- there are still a few cobias around, the Kings are sporadic, but here, lots of triggers and while most are short there are a few great big ones as well.. and day 'fore yesterday we caught the biggest Scamp I have seen up on the beach in years !

Sail Shark Fishing Fort Lauderdale

With perfect weather in Fort Lauderdale for fishing, the GE Corporation held their convention here and chartered the Happy Day Today along with the Topshotfishing team to do some sport fishing in Fort Lauderdale. Winds were northeast at 10 mph, seas running 3-4 ft. Our guests on board the boat were Larry Dodd, Daniel Tarr, Adam Luthman, Carol Hafner and her daughter Amy.

Huge Amberjack - A Day to Remember

May 15:

Today we had a bottom fishing charter with Bob, Jed, Bill and Tony. We had a great day of fishing catching a limit of Gag Grouper from 16-28lbs a 7lb Scamp and a limit of Amberjack. The Amberjack averaged a weight of about 25-30lbs. We trolled for a little while with no results and came in on a 3/4 day.

Mosquito Lagoon and Tarpon Fishing Report

This week’s Mosquito Lagoon and Tarpon Fishing Report:

Monday morning Scott Radloff and I braved 20-25 knot winds and thick overcast to try fishing in the Mosquito Lagoon. I got a redfish on my first cast. I would love to say “then it got better.” That may be a bit of an exageration. We did get a half dozen each of reds and trout though, including some very solid fish. And the overcast broke up, and the sun came out! The wind just kept a-honking, though. My lure of choice was an old Riptide Weedless jig outfitted with a four inch DOA CAL jerkbait. The last two fish we got on mullet pieces. We did better then we had any right to expect, that’s for sure.
