Likemind is before work (8AM), it happens downtown, and everyone is welcome. Bring a few friends, get some coffee, and tell us what's on your mind.

More than 3 years ago, I heard about these two marketing guys / geeks from New York who had started an event they held on Friday mornings for coffee and conversation. The first few were just the two of them, but as they invited people and the word got out, it grew until it started getting on the radar all over the world. Now Likemind happens in scores of cities on every continent, and Orlando has been on that list almost since the beginning.

Likemind in Orlando could be huge - in a different way than the Happy Hours and Coworking have been. The point of Likemind is the exchange of ideas - it's not a networking event, it's a discussion. There are tons of networking events. They suck. There are tons of user groups. Their format is generally a presentation. We all know from the Cluetrain Manifesto, and from events like BlogOrlando and BarCamp, that conversations are powerful things.

Groups in 60+ other cities all over the world will be getting together for conversations with their community - sure, they may not have 2+ years of these events behind them, but we do.

One of the first reasons we started Likemind was to encourage the coworking scene locally - that's grown up and there are now several healthy groups in town. Attendance to likemind has been poor, and sometimes even I forget when it's happening. Likemind is too cool an idea to have it fall by the side of the road. The events in New York and London are huge, with 50-100 attendees every month. When I went in London, they said 80% of the people were newcomers every month. If we can be half as successful, we'll have a huge impact.

You show up, I'll buy coffee and breakfast. Just like the old days.

Location? (must have good coffee)
The Drunken Monkey is a great place, and it's not right in the heart of downtown - I don't know if that fact will end up helping or hurting in the long run - we'll try it out for a few months. The coffee is great, the food is good, and the attitude is right. Plus, you can sometimes run into people from other circles there, which never happens at Panera or Starbuck's.

A great thing about Stardust, Dandelion, Austin's or Drunken Monkey are the people from the Film, Theatre, Music, and Art communities in town who call those places their "third place", where they go when it's not work or home. Cross-pollination is going to be important to an event like Likemind.

It's interesting to see how much of Orlando's Likemind is visible on the internet - Alex, Cory and Florida Creatives appear in the first 3 pages of google for "likemind", along with Piers and Noah (who started the event in New York), San Fran, Berlin, Italy, Austin, Milwaukee, Tokyo, and a few others. Orlando gets more hits on those 3 pages than the founders!

Please twitter about it, grow the community, talk it up, put it on your calendar, and help Orlando leave a wake on it's way sailing to the top of the world.

Are you up to the challenge? In the 48 Hour Film Contest you and your team must write, shoot, edit and complete a 5-minute movie in only 48 hours. After registration on Friday evening, you get a theme, a prop, and a line of dialogue which must be included in your film. On Sunday evening, you turn in your work. Then all the movies will be posted on the www.Tallahassee.com, the Official TFF 48-Hour Film Contest sponsor site.

Voting begins April 1, where we invite friends, family, and the community vote for their favorites on www.Tallahassee.com. Once we tally up the votes, we’ll choose the winners, who will receive their awards during the Tallahassee Film Festival.

Join artists, engineers, musicians, and astronauts at the Astronaut Hall of Fame in Titusville for a celebration of manned spaceflight!

We've lined up space simulators, interactive science demonstrations, and performance artists including costumed Star Wars characters from the 501st Legion and live music. Later in the evening we'll have a DJ, prize drawings (including tickets on JetBlue and astronaut autographs!), and special guest speakers toasting humanity’s achievements in space.

*NEW* CraftLass will be performing her original song "Bake Sale for NASA"!

Historically, Yuri’s Night is the annual, global holiday honoring the anniversary of the first manned spaceflight by Yuri Gagarin on April 12, 1961, and the launch of the first Space Shuttle on April 12, 1981. In addition to recognizing Yuri’s first flight, we will also honor the 29th anniversary of the first shuttle flight and the 40th anniversary of the Apollo 13 mission.

Hundreds of celebratory events are organized by individual local groups worldwide. Events this year will be linked by a global webcast on April 10.

In celebration of National Library Week 2010 (April 11-17), 67 Books is a weeklong performance art event taking place on the overhang of Orlando Public Library, involving 67 Orange County Library System (OCLS) cardholders, selected through an online lottery, reading aloud for one hour at a time, any book they choose from the OCLS collection. The number 67 corresponds to the number of hours Orlando Public Library is open in the span of one week.

67 Books is an independent production of Brian Feldman Projects in celebration of National Library Week. The event is supported through the in-kind donations of area businesses and individuals, and has not been paid for by the Orange County Library System.

ORLANDO PUBLIC LIBRARY is the headquarters and resource center for the Orange County Library System. The 290,000 square foot downtown Orlando facility is one of the largest public library buildings in the state of Florida. The Library has been located at this site since its beginnings as the Albertson Public Library in 1923. Public Reference Departments in the Orlando Public Library include Children’s, Genealogy, Law, Library Central, and Reference Central. The Children’s Library offers spacious areas, special programs, computers and story rooms for our youngest readers and readers to be. In honor of her final day on the job, Brian Feldman (who appeared in 10 productions reviewed by Betsey) will read selected reviews she has written for the Sentinel (from April 4, 1985* - February 26, 2010). This eight hour event will be webcast on brianfeldman.com, Qik, Vokle and Livestream. You can also watch clips on YouTube.

Artists, trend-spotters, activists, geeks and performers from Orlando and all around the SouthEast will be flocking to Orlando for an annual event unlike any other in Central Florida. BarCamp is a conference with no keynote speaker, no pre-defined schedule and no admission fee. It sounds like a bunch of chaos, but in fact it's one of the most fun days you can participate in. It's very easy to be involved, speak your mind, meet likeminded folks, maybe get a job, or just hand out and listen to all the passionate conversations happening in and out of the rooms where sessions are held.

This ad-hoc day of sessions invites participants to control the programming by preparing a 20 minute talk on any creative topic and presenting it to other participants. A large board separated into time slots will be opened at 9AM. Those wishing to lead discussions should be present early to write the name of his or her session on the board first thing in the morning.

Join first-time playwright Marilyn Wattman-Feldman for this dramatic reading of her play, Chemonologues. Based on interviews with cancer survivors, the project is funded in part by a Professional Development Grant from United Arts of Central Florida.

Cancer does not discriminate. It strikes without regard for income, race, creed, national origin, status... anyone can fall victim to cancer. Come and listen to the stories -- sharing the good and bad about chemo and other cancer-related topics. Perhaps shed a tear. Maybe a laugh. Come away with a new and better understanding of what it means to be a cancer survivor.

I was contacted by Emily Wray via the global Coworking list because of some posts I made recently, and now that I know there is a coworking movement in Tallahassee, I'm very excited about all of this!

Homebase is community/collaborative coworking space for Tallahassee's independent professionals... Think cafe culture meets your home office.

Think about it: Tampa Coworking has Ideafield, Miami Coworking has Brikolodge, we have CoLab and Blank Space (and Julia from UrbanThink! has started coming forward about a new space), and now Tallahassee?

A quick Google search even revealed this Jacksonville Coworking Survey posted on someone's Tumblr last year. Nearby is Office Divvy, which is sort of between Daytona and Jacksonville in Palm Coast.

I had a great meeting with someone from the Urban Think Foundation today, and I thought we could send them a little bit of business. However, the bookstore does not open until 11AM, so that means we'd have to start a bit later than normal. I imagine the big topic of discussion this month will be Coworking.

More than 3 years ago, I heard about these two marketing guys / geeks from New York who had started an event they held on Friday mornings for coffee and conversation. The first few were just the two of them, but as they invited people and the word got out, it grew until it started getting on the radar all over the world. Now Likemind happens in scores of cities on every continent, and Orlando has been on that list almost since the beginning.

Likemind happens downtown, and everyone is welcome. Bring a few friends, get some coffee, and tell us what's on your mind.

The point of Likemind is the exchange of ideas - it's not a networking event, it's a discussion. There are tons of networking events. They suck. There are tons of user groups. Their format is generally a presentation. We all know from the Cluetrain Manifesto, and from events like BlogOrlando and BarCamp, that conversations are powerful things.

Groups in 60+ other cities all over the world will be getting together for conversations with their community - sure, they may not have 2+ years of these events behind them, but we do.

One of the first reasons we started Likemind was to encourage the coworking scene locally - that's grown up and there are now several healthy groups in town.

You show up, I'll buy coffee. Just like the old days.

UrbanThink! is a great place, and it's just outside of downtown in Thornton Park. DO NOT park in front of the 7-11. Is this entire project a mockery of marriage? Not at all! It’s completely within the legal rights of Brian and any other heterosexual couple with $123.50 (plus $6 for a standard marriage certificate). Sound absurd? Not nearly absurd as denying the equal right to marry for same-sex couples who truly care about each other; who’ve been in committed, productive and, most importantly, loving relationships for upwards of 20+ years. That, to Brian, and millions of Americans who believe in lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender equality, is truly absurd - to say nothing of a civil injustice.

A complimentary service as part of 3rd Thursday, Brian Feldman will be stationed in front of CityArts Factory, ready to charge the cell phones of passersby whose cell phones are in need of charging. Alternately, anyone may leave their cell phone with Brian while they visit the other art galleries throughout Downtown Orlando, in an exercise in trust.

Food Allergy Cooking Classes

If you suffer from food allergies, or cook for someone who does, it’s easy to get stuck in a culinary rut with what seems like a limited number of ingredients and possibilities. No matter the allergy, we’ll custom design a cooking class to meet your every need, and get you excited about cooking again. The basic price of the class includes the cooking lesson, food and recipes. We'll also provide you with resources for nutritionists in the area and food allergy support groups.

Cooking with Food Allergies
Instructor: Dawn Viola
Cost: $125 per person (3-hour course includes food, recipes, instruction and resources)

The class takes place in the privacy of your own home. Or, if you prefer, you can select a date to meet at the state-of-the-art kitchens at the Gracious Living Design Center in Clermont, FL. If you're outside the Orlando area, we'll come to you, anywhere in the state, for a small travel fee.

Learning to Grocery Shop with Food Allergies
Instructor: Dawn Viola
Cost: $50 per person (1.5 hours)
We'll meet you at your grocery store or farmers market of choice to help you stock your pantry with all of the ingredients you’ll need to prepare your favorite allergy-free meals and keep the creativity flowing. Feel free to take notes only, or go right ahead and fill up your cart to purchase the foods as we go through the grocery store together.

Brian Feldman rides his and Walt Disney’s favorite attraction at the Magic Kingdom® Park, Carousel of Progress, for 11 consecutive hours (approximately 31 times in a row); in honor of the 35th anniversary of its opening at Magic Kingdom® on January 15, 1975.

Carousel of Progress is notable for being the only attraction at Walt Disney World® that Walt Disney himself rode. At the 1964 New York World’s Fair, which Brian’s dad attended, Carousel of Progress changed everything; and Brian believes that without it, Orlando would be a very different place.

Brian Feldman holds individual one hour talks with 10 Orlando artists he has yet to work with - on a swan boat in the middle of Lake Eola. The intent of these public/private talks is to work towards 10 new collaborative projects to take place either in or outside of Orlando, prior to the end of 2010, and separate from any projects either artist may have previously announced. It’s a new year. Hit the lake pedaling.
