Meet The Satanic Mechanic

In celebration of its age I watched it again tonight.

In the song "Sweet Transvestite" from The Rocky Horror Picture Show, the line "I'll get you a satanic mechanic" is a classic example of the film’s campy, genre-bending humour.

The Thematic "Satanic" Twist: By describing the mechanic as "satanic," Frank-N-Furter is playing with the tropes of the horror and science fiction films the movie parodies. He is signalling that his "hospitality" is far from normal. It serves as a warning—or an invitation—that everything in his castle is subverted, otherworldly, and morally "deviant" by conventional standards.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show was released in the United Kingdom on 14 August 1975 and in the United States on 26 September 1975. As of June 2026, the film is just over 50 years old. (I remember seeing it in Bristol when it was "new").
