A new type of flash mob: The flash dub! Performed by CGI for Kids Help Phone For many years, CGI’s office in Quebec City has taken part in the annual Walk for Kids Help Phone, raising funds to support the organization in its mission to improve the well being of children and youth by providing anonymous and confidential professional counseling. On May 2 2010, the date of this year’s walk, it was “A Beautiful Day” at Place d’Youville Square in Quebec City, when CGI demonstrated once again its commitment to the cause by performing a flash mob. For this event, CGI created a new concept: the flash dub. This unique formula, created and performed entirely by members (employees) in CGI’s office in Quebec City, brings together three different performance approaches in a public setting. It combines a freeze, reminding one of the origins of today’s flash mob, a lip dub, filmed with a single long take, and a flash mob. The flash mob scenario, along with the background song—U2’s “A Beautiful Day”—are intimately related to Kids Help Phone’s mission of delivering a message of hope for children and youth in need. The harmonious combination of those three distinctive concepts, staged and filmed only once, made CGI’s innovative team the first to perform a flash dub. About 100 CGI members and some of their children took part in the performance, which demonstrates the commitment of this multigenerational group to the well being of the youth.
