The Swingers Club at the newly-renovated Plaza Hotel in downtown Las Vegas.

The Swingers Club advertises indoor mini-golf – hence, the name (what did you *think* swingers meant?) – live entertainment, dueling pianos, hot girls and cold drinks!

Also new: A happy hour drink special sure to please the nostalgic cheapskate in everyone: Early Bird 50-CENT PABST BLUE RIBBONS (until 6 p.m.)!

And to kick off the new year/new venue “right,” we’ll be joined by not one, not two…but three VIP special guests of honor:

• United States Sen. Dean Heller
• United States Congressman Joe Heck
• Plus…former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman (whose new steak house would be a GREAT place to dine after First Friday – but make a reservation!)

And of course, our Master of Ceremonies will be the master of local conservative talk radio, KDWN’s Alan Stock!

SPECIAL BONUS: If you’re lucky, there might even be an informational picket line by Carpenters Local 1977 out front that you can cross!

WHAT
First Friday Happy Hour is a public monthly conservative/libertarian gathering – key word being “happy.” And all the political banter you can stand!

As always, there’s no cover charge…and there’s plenty of FREE parking in the garage (or valet) just off Main Street on the south end of the hotel.

WHEN
Friday, January 6, 2012
5:00 – 7:00 pm

WHERE
Swingers Club
Plaza Hotel
One Main Street (at the west end of the Fremont Street Experience)

YOU CAN ALWAYS GO…DOWN-TOWN

The lights are much brighter there

You can forget all your troubles, forget all your cares

So go downtown, things’ll be great when you’re

Downtown – no finer place, for sure

Downtown – everything’s waiting for you

On January 6 we’ll be moving our First Friday Happy Hourto the Swingers Club in the newly renovated Plaza Hotel at 1 Main Street – just at the western foot of the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas. And before you single folks get too excited, it’s called the Swingers Club because there’s a miniature golf course inside. Sheesh!

Better yet for the frugal-minded, Swingers will feature 50-cent Pabst Blue Ribbons (!) and $2 John Daly’s (think of an Arnold Palmer, but with sweet tea and vodka).

There will also be a number of fast-food (pizza!) outlets where you can grab something to nosh on (Swingers will let you bring snacks into the bar), as well as some post-Happy Hour restaurants – including Hash House a Go Go and Oscar’s Steak House.

Then walk dinner off with a short trip down the street to the First Friday Arts Festival. And, hey, if you want a nightcap afterwards…Swingers features dueling pianos at 9:30 pm.

But back to Oscar’s Steak House for minute:

That’s the new restaurant of former Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman up on the second floor looking out over the Fremont Street Experience which will be opening tonight. And Oscar his own self will again be our First Friday Happy Hour VIP guest-of-honor in January to usher in the new year/new venue/new attitude – though I suspect he’ll be drinking something other than a 50-cent PBR.

Joining Oscar at this extra special January First Friday Happy Hour will be Senator Dean Heller and Representative Joe Heck. This will be the event of the New Year!

Brian Krolicki is a familiar face to most Nevadans as result of his manyyears of distinguished public service, and his many accomplishments have not gone unnoticed by the citizens of Nevada. In 2006, after having successfully served as State Treasurer for two terms, Brian Krolicki convincingly won his election to serve as Nevada’s 33rd Lieutenant Governor, and was re-elected to his second term in November 2010.

As Lieutenant Governor, Krolicki serves as President of the State Senate, Chairman of the Commission on Economic Development, Chairman of the Commission on Tourism, and Vice-Chairman of the State Board of Transportation. He also serves as the Chairman of the Reno-Tahoe Winter Games Coalition – comprised of a distinguished group of private and public sector leaders from both Nevada and California dedicated to bringing the Winter Olympic Games back to the Lake Tahoe region, Chairman of the Nevada Economic Development Inter-Agency Task Force, and as a member of the Executive Branch Audit Committee. Earlier this year, Krolicki was honored to be selected by his peers around the country to serve as the Chairman of the National Republican Lieutenant Governors Association.

This month’s Special Guest…Rich Galen!

Rich Galen has been described as “what you get when you cross a political hack with a philosopher.”

His career includes work in and out of politics, in and out of the United States.

In 2003-2004, Rich did a tour of duty in Iraq where he went at the request of the White House. The assignment – which was to have lasted about eight weeks, stretched into six months. While there, he was responsible for bringing the message of the positive aspects of what the coalition was doing in Iraq back to Middle America.

Rich has been press secretary to Dan Quayle, when the former Vice President was a Congressman and a U.S. Senator; and to Newt Gingrich when Gingrich was House Republican Whip and, in 1996 became the communications director of the political office of Speaker Gingrich.

Rich also has extensive non-US business and political experience. At the time of the dissolution of the Communist governments in Eastern Europe, he was one of a select number of Americans sent over to help build a democratic political infrastructure. He spent a significant amount of time in Hungary, Bulgaria, Romania, and what was then Czechoslovakia.

In 1992, Mr. Galen went to work for Electronic Data Systems as the director of a new organization known as the Emerging Markets Group where he designed and implemented a plan to help EDS expand its service offerings into new geographic areas.

Under Mr. Galen’s guidance, EDS established operations in Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Turkey, Israel, and Egypt. He managed a staff which was located on three continents, in four time zones, covering three work weeks, and which spoke four languages.

Since, March 1998, when he assumed the position of Executive Director of GOPAC, Mr. Galen has written a three-day-a-week political column – Mullings – which reaches some 400,000 people per month and is considered required reading by senior reporters and political operatives on both sides of the aisle.

In Washington, DC, Mr. Galen is an often quoted source for many of the major American news outlets. He has maintained excellent contacts with all of the networks, major daily newspapers, major news weeklies as well as the Associated Press and Reuters wire services.

Mr. Galen is a frequent guest on television shows on FOX, CNN, the “Today” show, on “Good Morning America,” on ABC “World News Tonight” and on “Larry King Live.”

Your Professor: Chuck Muth

The Citizen Outreach Foundation is offering another great training event next week and we want you to be there. Please join us on September 2, 2011 at 2:30 – 4:30 inside Mundo: a Latin Chic Restaurant for a Campaign Communications 101 workshop. We’re offering this training free of charge to the first 40 who register by contacting Felecia at felecia@citizenoutreach.com.

Campaign Communications 101

When it comes to dealing with the press, conservative candidates, party leaders and activists generally stink on ice.

Yet getting your message out through the mainstream media – where most voters get their news – is absolutely critical, especially for underfunded campaigns. The key is in learning how to do it properly and professionally. And when it comes to stump speeches, they’re not much better. Tom Lehrer, one of our nation’s greatest satirical songwriters from the 50s and 60s, once said, “I feel that if a person has problems communicating the very least he can do is to shut up.” How many times have you thought the same thing when listening to most political candidates?

Whether you’re running for office or managing a campaign; whether you’re a party leader or conservative activist trying to get your message out, Campaign Communications 101 is a must-attend workshop where you’ll learn important tips and inside secrets to developing an effective campaign message and delivering it to the masses on a shoestring budget, including…
• The all-important, little-known Strategic Message Grid
• Inside secrets to great political speeches – from an Israeli political consultant
• The red pen/blue pen test for the “I-disease”
• The essential components of a media list
• How to use the right “form” when submitting news releases
• A 10-point checklist for getting news releases covered by the news
• The seven most common subjects for campaign news releases
• Tips on how to get the media to notice your media release
• Ten ways to make your press releases more “newsworthy”
• The 12 Immutable Laws for dealing with the press
• Nightmare examples of how NOT to deal with the press

SPECIAL BONUS WORKSHOP: BLOGGING 101

A blog is not like the Field of Dreams; just because you build it, doesn’t mean they’ll come. At this workshop, you’ll learn secrets for publishing a blog that not only will people want to read every day, but how to use your blog and other “new media” for political activism that will make a difference, including…
• The little-known power of “Google Alerts”
• The four “B’s” of an effective blog
• The single, most important thing you better never lose…or else turn out the lights; your blog party will be over
• Where to find the “textbook” that will teach you all you’ll ever need to learn about writing killer headlines
• How to use the power of “short”
• The eight keys to writing blog posts that people will actually want to read
• How to use Twitter to boost your blog’s e-presence and gain new readers
• The most imporant “plug-in” that can make you a one-man (or woman) e-activist extraordinaire
• How to robo-call your way to fame and fortune…or at least effective political action

Space is limited to the first 40!
