I tried to offer my help to as many people as possible, and I did made some successsful deals with poeple from overseas. But since Feiyue/Warrior is only my interest and I'm still a full-time student with personal job to do, I was not able to give my response to all of you in time. Following are some FAQ from readers, and I think it's good to put some of my answers here for your information.

Q: Can you tell me the contact of Feiyue/Warrior's manufacturer ?
A:There were quite a lot of people inquired about the traditional Feiyue and Warrior sneakers and want to get shoes from the company directly, assuming that a direct deal would mean a more reasonable price. In fact it is not. Take Warrior shoe company for example, if someone from abroad contact them, they will offered you a much higher export price (they sell higher price abroad than home, eg 30% or higher than domestic price). For Feiyue, they don't even have a company website.... Usually the best way I recommend (as I helped some buyers from Canada, United states) is to buy the shoes from local sales channels and ship them abroad. That's the most cost-saving method.

Q:I am looking for manufacturer who can make these shoes in high quality but at a good cost, and I worry if local sales channel is able to provide large quantity. A:Let me expain this way. Feiyue's original manufacturer is very difficult to find, in fact I tried to get in contact with them about a year ago for several times (someone from Canada and the US already contact me for this reason already). But the feedback from the company was negative: Their factory seldom deal directly overseas sales (the management team are some about-to retire people, and don't even have professional people to develop sales channel). There was even no one can speak good English. Most of the time, they took order directly from other local trading companies or footwear distributors. So you see, many of you want to deal directly with Feiyue company, but I can ensure you, I've tried this way, but it's very difficult.
So the best possible way is to do overseas trading with trading companies or footwear distributors who already have partnership with Feiyue, and that's how I helped my friend from Canada and US get Feiyue. About the quantities, they make production based on the requirement of order, so quantity won't be a problem, but prices and production time need further negotiation.

Other concerns pls email to me, if I don't answer please do not hesitate to resend me the email, don't be afraid to bother...I would try my best to help if you really want it !!!
阿杜.Stewardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12485161602035702467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1928090762500763524.post-46388491613220290742010-07-05T10:09:00.000-07:002010-07-21T10:35:46.462-07:00Some photos of the basketball game with KyleSome photos of the basketball game today with Kyle and his friends.
Kyle used to teach parkour and Kungfu in Canada (their training center). Some of you even endeavored to spread the shoes around the world by actions. I'm truthfully glad to have worked and became friends with you all.

This time, I'd like to introduce you to a fresh new project I have been working on with my fellow entrepreneurs recently- the Shanghai Summer Intensive Program(SSIP).
With the World Expo 2010 about to come this summer in Shanghai, we tailor-make this program for those who want to join the fabulous event.
For more, please visit our site www.chinassip.com, or feel free to contact me via my personal email steward.du[at]gmail.com.

About the program
Shanghai Summer Intensive Program (SSIP) was conceptualized and made a reality inspired by the upcoming 2010 Shanghai EXPO and the need from international students to understand China. The program began as an academic project 3 years ago, then became a campus club that as assisted international students in Shanghai to get better adaptable in the new environment.

The main organizers of the program are people from various backgrounds, including young entrepreneur Eric Hu (who founded a service firm for soon-to-graduate students during college), student leader Yangdong Zhang (who's the chairman of the student association in Tongji University) and Xiaodong Du (who has much experience in English education and also works in different instructive projects on topics about China).

We're passionate about what we have been doing in promoting exchange for students around the world. We have proved it can work, and we've scaling up now. SSIP is still relatively small, but if it grows as rapidly as we hope, it could begin to do a whole lot of good. On this note, we wish all of our participants a fantastic and relaxing summer stay in China.

阿杜.Stewardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12485161602035702467noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1928090762500763524.post-25395504420656523642009-03-26T19:41:00.000-07:002009-04-20T06:33:09.633-07:00Interview with Chestnut, a girl wears Warrior sneakersWe recently caught up with Chestnut (a versatile girl love art&design) to discuss warrior sneakers. I recognized warrior sneakers in some of her photo and I am sure it would be interesting to have a small interview with her here for all fans.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself ?
I’m an ordinary girl in college, China. I like graphic design, film post-production and photography. That's all my interests but I am pretty sure I am still amateur of all aspect :)

2. I saw your photos with warror sneakers, that's awesome! When was the first time you notice Warriors sneakers and why did you choose them in your photos?
I wore Warriors(Huili-回力) sneakers when I was a kid and I'm sure everybody of our age has a big impression on the shoes. In fact I didn't have much idea about when it came into popularity again. I like its style and think they look good on young people so bought a pair for my own. Another reason add to my affection to Warriors sneakers may be my best friend- he's also called Huili (回力) and yes, he wears Huili too :)

In recent year, many Classical Chinese brands like Feiyue, sailor's striped shirt(海魂衫) and warriors are attracting more and more public/media attention, even create craze in Europe. I wasn't too much surprised at that time, I believe trend is a cyclical process and these brands are getting recognition they deserve. But knowing his/her own style is important for an individual, you don't have to follow others by grabbing yourself warriors and Feiyue, in order not to be left outdated.

3. You have your dress shop online and part-time model, could you share your advice on the dress style of warriors sneakers?
Warriors were originally designed as sport shoes, yet not only for sports and physical exercise purpose. (please click on the photo to see extra large zoom-in )

Download attached powerpoint file
(F-French, C-Chinese)

#1Shoe Tongue
The C version of Feiyue has on the tougue, TOPONE(大博文)'s wording and a star incon as trademark logo. When we compare it with the F version, Topone
s trademark is replaced with Feiyue and two parallel arrows.

#2Sole of the Shoe
Besides the outlook you can see from the photo, I'd like to add a few words for this part. The sole of C version Feiyue, I would not advise them for running, as the sole does not have much padding (They have richer padding in F version ). They are excellent for any martial arts requiring a wide range of foot motion or very low stances (like karate/Northern style kung fu/wushu) because they leave the ankles uncovered, allowing a large range of ankle flexibility. The inside of the shoe, you see the size of it.(I wear a #43 lol)They're also good because the flat sole keeps you from pronating while doing kicks or being in low stances, which can sprain or strain an ankle

#3 Side logo
As I said earlier, they're actually both spelt Feiyue :)

Hope this helps
Steward
阿杜.Stewardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12485161602035702467noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1928090762500763524.post-23376738866354606752009-01-19T19:07:00.000-08:002009-02-03T04:44:43.079-08:00Talk with Yap, a reader from SingaporeBy 阿杜.Steward
Shanghai

We just caught up with one of our reader Yap (who's from Singapore) to discuss his recent travel to Shanghai and the Feiyue 585 shop.

1. Can you tell us the experience of visiting Feiyue 585, and share with our readers your findings ?

I just visited Shanghai this week for work. Using your information, I managed to visit the Feiyue 585 store yesterday. Thanks for that although it felt further than the 473.831 m that you mentioned from your blog when I walked from the train station( I used exit 2 of Loushanguanlu station).

I think it was quite an experience, especially trying to find the shop from the train station. The walk from the station seemed an eternity and worrying that I might have made a wasted trip if the shop has already closed for the day or if I had walked the wrong way. When I reach the 585 units, I really thought that I had got it wrong as the first few 585 units do not seemed to be selling shoes, until I walked to the last unit 585-1. The feeling cannot be described when I realised I am at the entrance of the legendary Feiyue 585 shop. The 585 store is nearer the traffic junction. Like you mentioned, shoes are stewn everywhere, with some stacked on on the shelves. Special mention to the owner who served me. She was very helpful, patience and chatty as she took my orders of 11 pairs.

Price wise, I think they increased the price recently after the publicity (I bought the white with blue and red stripes at $28 RMB). Also, not sure if it was only me but I felt some of the shoes which I wanted to buy had really bad imprints of the words "Feiyue" on them, with some wordings fading off and with uneven alignment of the soles joining to the canvas part of the shoe.

Oh by the way, do try the steam xiao long bao next to the shop. They were simply delicious, but be prepared to queue.
3. It's a garment shop who choose its own fashion labels and favors Chinese element ambience as well. You won't find large paragraph of text introduction or fancy flash animation on its website, but with a simply click through you would probably be glued by what they offer.

What I like best is that they put on the site photos of youngster wearing Tees and other accessory from the shop, instead of officially well-designed sexy professional model. Well maybe I can email them my photo to see if there is a chance to get published :P

Oh,last thing, our favorite icon Feiyue shoes and T-shirts are also available in this shop in LA. Branding is all about intellectual and more importantly emotional connection with people. When people begin to support the image, like from the more brand savvy cities like Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou, other second-tier cities will move up in good speed to catch up with the trends. All right, it's time for me to take some initiative, looks cool right? About my race

Overall, it was a great race, it was challenging and fresh (to most people including me, never experienced a race as far as 10K). When on the subway before the race that morning, everyone in red Tee-shirt and running shorts was agog about the game. You should know when running in such a large folk (approximately15 thousands of runners in Shanghai), it certainly provides you some additional push. It’s not only about competition, but also people enjoy being part of such a huge event and air of shared goal permeated.

So how was the race result for me? Er….as I mentioned, additional push from the folk, but unfortunately I was in the middle of the less speedy, seemed more like pull than push…yup, that was lame, got chicked and outrun by many runners even female runners 囧~

2. Something special about the race in Shanghai

- Everyone got nice NIKE gear for the race, check my photo- a T-shirt with a unique runner number, a gadget in the shoe that can sense your speed, and a gym sack (don’t understand why organizer required everybody running with it and actually made runners very uncomfortable when running.)

- Rain began to pour as soon as the race began at 7 am, stopped before 7:40 am, but the ground was wet through. It was a rainy day and has showers regularly during the whole race. Well it hampered the progress yet at least we didn’t have a burning sun :)

- I got interviewed by NIKE people :J

- By the road, plenty of water stations and bananas and even cheer girls. As giveaway after the race, everyone can get free Red T shirt (I am 180cm but got a S size Tee,囧) and gym coupon plus concert ticket for罗志祥,范玮琪,羽泉and胡彦斌 .

- The whole event was great , except the organizing was a bit messy, folk complained. But just let go the unpleasant, it's still unforgettable.

Besides an amateur athlete, here's some analyzing stuff as a part time consultant, hah~

3. Biggest running event over the world ever. 25 Cities around the globe and nearly thousands of thousands of people participating. To its participant, think about how cool it is, most of us never experienced 10K, and it provides a global connection point for everybody.

- Good timing. Right after the rocking Olympics, you should like to take some sport after watching the Beijing Olympics, well it is time. Let celebrate sports with our physical involvement!

- Combining NIKE + digital running world with physical. NIKE plus is a fresh concept from collaboration between two much-admired companies, NIKE and Apple. (Nike Plus is a technology that allows runner’s shoes to communicate with their iPod Nanos, it’s able to measure your distance, pace, time and calories burned during running). Your exercise now has data illustration, you can choose to upload to your blog for example and share with anyone in the world.

- Good geography selected. Many reason for selecting these 25 cities in the world, one of this is that it showcased many most famous landmarks in the world. My friend in Taiwan race through Taipei 101, and NY of course they ran pass Manhattan, UK through central London (but for Shanghai, we have a urgent location plan changed, and we only ran in and out the suburb Century Park,囧).

- It’s linked with charities. Disaster happened, and it people united. we are doing this for thing that’s so meaningful, delivering message about love and shared vision.

4. Some after-event suggestions

- Make it social. I was shocked when I entered the NIKE + website to check my result for the race(you can head over http://nikeplus.nike.com/nikeplus/humanrace/map.jsp for result). I simply input my Chinese Name and my data pop out! And another email will be pushed to my email address with more detailed information ,since I left my contact info when signing up for the race. So it’s a good chance, if NIKE make the most out of this information. If you like SNS such as facebook and xiaonei etc, you should be excited to know those people also running in the race afterwards. We can share photo, article and video with people running in other side of the world, even make friends with them. NIKE don’t have to build a website for this, can simply archive this by some collaboration with SNS website. In that case, it’s gonna rock for a longer time.

Did you run the race too, how do you like it if yes and what do you think if you missed the chance? I'm a native Chinese student in Shanghai, where I got a fantastic and formative education. I collaborate with friends to write this blog about Feiyue shoes (clike to know more background of the shoes), as I observe many people are eager to know about Feiyue and other Chinese classical brands. However much of the information are only available in Chinese on web, making it difficult for the spread. The name is pronounce Fay-Wee. Like a girls name, and then the thing you say when you go down a slide. They have been popular in the martial arts community for years due to their comfort and almost imperceptible weight. Recently Feiyue has started to court the Parkour community, claiming it's lightweight, flexible shoe would be perfect for training. They come in a huge amount of colors variations (each of which has it's own name), though many retailers only carry white or black only. Considering their popularity in martial arts, and their extremely affordable price, I decided to give them a try.

Where I found them
I went searching on Amazon to try and find a competitive price and discovered that they almost exclusively sell for $14.99. With shipping, it cost me 23 bucks. Not too shabby for a pair of shoes.

First impressions
My first impressions as I pulled them out of the box, was that they were 15 dollar shoes. The came in a clear plastic sleeve, and when I opened it up, it stank of that new rubber smell. They basically look like Chuck Taylors designed for running. Thin canvas body, with a thick rubber sole, and a strip of rubber around the whole thing. I put them on, and found they felt somewhat odd on my feet. The sole of the shoes seems to stick out more towards the middle of the foot, so it's almost feels like your feet are wider than the shoe. It's not an uncomfortable feeling, it's just very different from any shoes I've worn. It gives the impression that you're balancing on something. More on that later.

So I've had mine for nearly a month now, and I wear them pretty much daily. I find them very comfortable in that bare foot sort of way. Also, with the thin heels encouraging me to stand on the balls of my feet I find myself always wanting to bounce around. These shoes literally make me want to train more than other shoes. Sounds weird I know, but it's the God's honest truth. The lightness of them, and the way you can feel the ground, it makes you hyper aware of your feet, which just makes me want to run and jump.

[See full text version here]

阿杜.Stewardhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/12485161602035702467noreply@blogger.com8
