David S. Allee was born in New York City in 1969 and is a former urban planner. He received his undergraduate degree from Cornell University, and his MFA in Photography from the School of Visual Arts. He has had several solo exhibitions, including at Princeton University in 2005 and the Knoxville Museum of Art in 2004. His work has been included in group shows at the Bronx Museum of the Arts, the Tampa Museum of Art, and the Cornell Fine Arts Museum. His photographs have appeared widely in publications and journals and were recently featured in the book City Art, edited by Marvin Heiferman. David Allee is represented by Hello Artists (commercial) and Morgan Lehman Gallery.

Elinor Carucci was born in Israel, and currently lives and works in New York, where she is a teacher at the School of Visual Arts. Her work has appeared in numerous solo exhibitions and her clients include The New York Times Magazine, The New Yorker, Details, New York Magazine, and W, among others. David Favrod was born in Kobe, Japan, of a Japanese mother and a Swiss father. When he was 6 months old, his family moved to Switzerland. Of this series, Gaijin, he says, ‘As my father had to travel for his work a lot, I was mainly brought up by my mother who taught me her principles and her culture. When I was 18, I asked for double nationality at the Japanese embassy, but they refused, because it is only given to Japanese women who wish to obtain their husband’s nationality. It is from this feeling of rejection and also from a desire to prove that I am as Japanese as I am Swiss that this work was created. “Gaijin” is a fictional recital, a tool for my quest for identity, where auto-portraits imply an intimate and solitary relationship that I have with myself. The mirror image is frozen in a figurative alter ego that serves as an anchor point. The aim of this work is to create “my own Japan”, in Switzerland, from memories of my journeys when I was small, my mother’s stories, popular and traditional culture and my grandparents war recitals’.

Cassander Eeftinck Schattenkerk lives and works in Amsterdam. He studied photography at Gerrit Rietveld Academie in Amsterdam. Of this series, The Andromeda Strain, he says: ‘After making many landscape photographs I realized the search for special places is more important than the place itself. The notion of discovery has been always intimately linked to photography. The cliche of the photographer as an explorer of unknown and rough places became a starting point to construct images. I played with the “National Geographic:-language essentially without leaving my hometown. I searched for locations that, after small interventions, can fit in an imaginary travelogue. Using low-budget special effects and lighting I staged natural phenomena and imagery. To this work made on location I added still-lives constructed in the studio. Referring to nature and scientific photography, the tabletop landscapes create confusion on the overall status of the series. I often choose material that has a perishable or unpredictable quality, like foam or spaghetti. No Photoshop is used to achieve the effects. The artificial and the real, and the different sources the image is based on, should be present simultaneously’.

Chloe Tallot lives and works in Paris. She is a multimedia artist that works with video, photography, drawings, and installations. These images are from her Animale series, “dealing with violence in life and influenced by Darwin’s scientific research”.

Of Italian descent, Guido Mocafico was born in Switzerland in 1962. A specialist in still life, he works regularly for international magazines such as Numèro, Paris Vogue, Big, The Face, Self-Service, and Wallpaper. He has also undertaken numerous advertising campaigns for Gucci, Yves Saint Laurent, Clinique, Shiseido, and Hermës. Over the past four years, Mocafico has been at work on a personal project related to architecture, and he continues to explore aesthetic and scientific themes in nature. He lives in Paris. His book, Serpens, can be purchased through Steidl.
