Earlier this day, I got an email from Sonetel,telling that I got an iNum number +883 510 008 140 129. My friend can call me for free from Google Talk, Google Voice and Skype.

So to begin with, what is iNum?

iNum means “International Number”. It’s not a geography number which means you can not call this number directly from your mobile phone. It’s a new kind of phone number. You can think in this way: This iNum number is from a country with country code +883(Although it does not belong to any country).

Now how to receive calls with iNum?

You can receive calls with your iNum number. People can connect you with Google Voice or Skype.

1.  If someone is calling you from Skype. He should has credit in his Skype account for he will be charged a little for calling this iNum number. But do not worry, this is a per minute charge than most regural calls.
2. Call you from Google Talk. Any Google Talk user can call you for free. They need to add you as a contact with an email address in the following format; MYINUM@inum.net. For example 883510008101234@inum.net.
3. Calls from Google Voice. Any Google Voice user can call for free you by calling your INUM number with a preceding “+”. For example +883510008101234.
4. Call you from regural phone number.Just call this number as if he is doing a regural calling.

My personal suggestion is that the iNum number may sometimes charge a little high so unless it is necessary, do not test this iNum number with your own phone. And if you want free phone numbers to receive calls online,try iPkall or Google Voice they are better and more safe.

First of all, to make free or cheap calls on your Android,  a  SIP address  is required, which you can find many sip providers in this blog. I am using  Goober. And a SIP client is also needed to run on your Android device.  Below is the list I have collected and you can download them from Google Play.

1. LinPhone

Linphone is an open source internet SIP phone or Voice Over IP phone (VoIP) WIFI/3G, with video calls support for ARMv7 phones. It has many great features like Audio multicall and conferencing,SRTP media encryption,Address book integration and others. Installed on my Galaxy Nexus. Easy configuration and works fine. It took me a while to find the right Sip client but I think this it. Much better than CsipSimple in 2 important areas: Battery consumption and staying registered.

2. SIPdroid

Although SIPdroid is free app it’s supported well. And it has a very nice and simple interface. Works ok with my sip account, but call quality still not quite as good as voip by antisip. Contacts list does not list phone numbers, only names. Not tried the video yet.

3. Voxofon

I know that many readers are using Voxofon for its cheap voip call service. However, you may didn’t know that Voxofon is offering an app which allows you to configure your SIP address on your Android.

4.CSipSimple

CSIPSimple is an OpenSource SIP Client work on Android. It supports  Rewriting/filtering rules for integration with Android, Call recording,Fancy UI. And  Many codecs are supported like HD codecs, optimized codecs. Grega said “I’ve tried a couple of other sip clients so far. I can honestly say that this one is the best one! It even supports sending sms. I strongly recommend it!”.

5. FriendCaller

I think most readers of this blog are familiar with FriendCaller. Friend is a very famous VoIP service providers including voip phone calls and mobile phone calls. I can’t think of the root cause since i test both on the same network with Samsung Galaxy Nexus.
