fayax Hosting has introduced a new domain extension, which is now available for registration – the .WE.BS. These new domain names start from just 4.50 USD per year and there are no special requirements for both the registration and the site content.

Domains under the .WE.BS TLD can apply for ID (Whois) Protection and their Whois information can be freely edited at any moment from our Web Hosting Control Panel.

The new recurring billing will be valid only for purchases of web hosting plans with the American Express card. In its basics the new recurring billing resembles very much the current PayPal recurring billing – when a new purchase is made, it will be assigned a contract ID. Customers will be able to manage their contracts from their Web Hosting Control Panel.

All purchases of sole domain names or upgrades will be billed as usual.

A new addition, which we are especially proud of is the option to change the recurring contract type – you can switch from American Express recurring to PayPal recurring at any time without a problem. The old recurring contract will be canceled and a new, PayPal recurring one, will be created.

The .JP TLD is the ccTLD for the country of Japan, but it’s not limited to in-country registrations only – anyone can register a domain with the .JP TLD. The registration period is 1 year. By registry rule, domain names with the .JP TLD cannot be transferred or shielded with a WHOIS protection service. Their WHOIS information is freely manageable from the Web Hosting Control Panel.

The .TW TLD will complement the .TW list together with the .COM.TW, ORG.TW and the IDV.TW TLDs. They all share the same specifications – domains with these TLDs can be transferred with the help of an EPP code and for all of them the registration period is one year. They cannot be locked with the registrar or use a WHOIS protection.

The servers in our UK Data Center supporting your website(s), have been experiencing several downtimes for the last few days.

The reason for those interruptions is a flood attack whose target website we are still trying to determine. Our administrators are now doing their best to locate the threatened websites in order to eliminate the downtime-causing factor and thus to make sure that no other service disruptions will occur. The process of determining the website subject to the flood attack is divided into several stages including changes to the IP addresses of the groups of sites hosted on the server. By doing this our administrators are aiming to gradually narrow down the list of potentially endangered sites to finally locate the real flooded website.

The procedure goes like that – our admins assign several new IP addresses to the attacked sites on the server, so that 1 IP address corresponds to a small group of sites. When the next flood attack is made – they see which IP address is targeted in particular and which are the websites at risk. Then they assign a new set of IPs to the smaller group of sites, meaning that 1 IP serves just a few sites. When a new flood attack is directed at the server we detect the attacked IP address and the range of the few potentially threatened sites. The last step then is to attach a different new IP address to each one of the few sites and wait for the new flood attack to come when the target-site will be finally located. The process of determining the website that is subject to the flood attack might take several hours, additional interruptions are possible within that period.

In the light of the afore-stated, we’d like to kindly ask you to let us know should you have received any recent flood warnings about your website(s). It is a common practice for well-experienced malicious users (from Russia, in most cases) to start blackmailing site owners, warning them that their websites will be taken down if they do not pay a certain amount of money. When those guys get the site owner’s denial – they initiate a series of flood attacks to his/her website(s), as a consequence. Unfortunately, if someone falls victim to such type of abuse – there is not much that can be done to stop it. However, if you inform us of such case involving your websites – we’ll be able to react more quickly in insulating the target site and thus decrease the downtime for thousands of other websites hosted in our network.

The .NU TLD has been rapidly gaining popularity among Internet users for the last few years. Originally designed as the ccTLD for the island country of Niue, it very quickly became widely spread due to its phonetic similarity with the English word “new”. It is also very similar to the Skandinavian equivalent of “now”.

The .NU TLD can be registered for no less than 2 years and for no more than 10 years. It cannot be transferred and is not applicable to the Whois Protection service.

The .NZ TLD is the ccTLD for New Zealand. Unlike many other Country Code TLDs, there are no residency restrictions for .NZ and it can be registered by anyone in the world.

Domain names with the .NZ TLD exension can be registered for only 1-year periods, and do not support transfer or Whois Protection.

The .IT TLD is the country code top-level domain (ccTLD) for Italy. Domains with this TLD can only be registered for a 1-year period and cannot be transferred, locked with the registrar or shielded via an ID protection service. Individuals may register only one domain name with the .IT TLD. A multi-year .IT registration is valid only for companies that are required to provide a tax ID when applying for the service. The Registrant and the Administrative contacts in the Whois information cannot be abbreviated.

The .AT TLD is the country code top-level domain for Austria. Again, domains with this extension can be registered for one year only, and cannot have their Whois information masked with an ID Protection service.  Also, such domains can’t be transferred or locked with the registrar. There is no restriction on the number of domains that can be registered per person.

These newly introduced domain extensions represent the country specific TLDs for Netherlands (.nl) and Belgium (.be), which are widely open for registration as long as some specific registry-imposed requirements are matched by the potential registrant.

The two TLDs share some specificities worth mentioning :

- domains with these TLDs cannot be transferred.

- domains with these TLDs can’t be locked at the registrar.

- domains with these TLDs can’t apply for ID protection.

- domains with these TLDs can be registered for just 1 year.

Additionally, the .NL domain registration procedure entails some specific actions on the side of the registrant.  Once the domain name has been ordered, the .NL registry will send the new domain owner a registration agreement in both English and Dutch, which the owner will have to fill in, sign and send back by fax. This agreement must be sent back to the .NL registry within 15 day of the domain registration request, otherwise the domain name will be canceled.
