How to Install a Moen Kitchen Pullout Faucet

Introduction
These instructions by Moen Faucets will help guide you on the installation of a Moen Kitchen Pull Out Faucet. To complete the project, you should first gather the tools and all the parts you will need. The basic steps to complete the project are to gather all tools and parts, turn off your water supply, prepare the mounting area, attach the hose to the faucet assembly, mount the faucet, connect the supply lines, and finally test and flush the completed assembly.

Before You Start…

Skill Level & Time to Complete

Beginner - 2 to 3 hours

Intermediate - 1 to 2 hours

Advanced - 1 hour

Caution: Always turn water supply OFF before removing existing faucet.

Caution: Turn faucet on to relieve water pressure and to insure water is completely off.
Helpful Tip: Use a penetrating oil spray on the faucet mounting hardware to help loosen corrosion and assist in removing the existing faucet connections.

Helpful Tip: Remove mounting hardware using a basin wrench or channel lock pliers.

Helpful Tip: Thoroughly clean and dry the mounting surface after removal of your existing faucet

STEPS

1. Thoroughly clean and dry mounting area.

2. Attach the hose to the Pull-out Spout by placing the screen washer in the hose nut and attaching the hose to the pull-out spout.

3. With the spout receptor facing directly forward and threaded discharge tube in back, feed small end of hose down through spout receptor. When you feel resistance, feed the hose through with a push/pull motion. Set aside the faucet assembly.

Depending on your sink configuration, you have the option to install your faucet with an escutcheon or a round deck ring. Never use the escutcheon and deck ring together on one sink.

4a. If you're using a 10" escutcheon, align the faucet assembly in the two slots on the escutcheon so that the discharge tube is in back.

Then, install the faucet through the escutcheon deck plate and deck holes. Push the entire assembly toward the bank of the sink as far as possible and center the faucet on the sink.

4b. If you have a deck ring assembly, align the faucet assembly in the two slots on the deck ring. align the deck ring gasket and the deck ring on sink, and lower the faucet assembly into the sink.

Then push the entire assembly toward the back of the sink as far as possible.

5a. If your deck is less than 1/8" thick, install the mounting bracket with the open side up by hooking it around the supply tubes and sliding it up and onto the threaded discharge tube.

You may need to gently pull the supply tubes away from the discharge tube, but be careful that you do not kink the tubing. Install and slightly tighten the mounting nut with the included mounting tool.

5b. If your deck is more than 1/8" thick, install the mounting bracket with the open side down. Install and slightly tighten the mounting nut with the included mounting tool.

6. Rotate the spout receptor to the left and right, noting where it stops. Faucet should move to the left and right equally from the center. To readjust, loosen the medium mounting nut and move the spout receptor to the desired rotation. Hand tighten medium mounting nut. Check movement of the hose before finally tightening the nuts. If the hose does not move freely, gently bend the supply tubes out. Do not kink supply tubes. Tighten the mounting nut with the tool provided. Use heavy duty screwdriver through the hole in the bottom of the tool to tighten the faucet securely. Tighten small mounting nuts with an adjustable wrench. Re-check for alignment, and be sure that the faucet is centered properly on the sink and that it does not shift position when the spout is moved from side to side.

7. Assemble the sprayer hose to threaded discharge tube and tighten with an adjustable wrench. The counterweight is designed to snap together onto the spout hose.

To disassemble the counterweight, depress tabs and pull halves apart, or pry halves apart with a flat-head screwdriver.

Assemble counter weight at the bottom of the spout hose loop. Align tabs on each half of the counterweight with the slots on the other half of the counterweight. Squeeze halves together until they snap together. The counter weight should not slide on the hose.

7b. The pull out hose is attached to the underside of the faucet using the Hydrolock connector. The white clips on the connector need to be in the full open position.

Slide the hose into the Hydrolock connector as far as possible then push in the white clip.

There will be a distinctive "click" sound. Repeat the process when attaching the Hydrolock connector to the faucet.

Be careful to join these fittings as straight as possible.

8. Connect your water supply line to one-half inch threaded fittings. Hold threaded fittings with wrench to prevent twisting and collapsing of copper tubing while tightening with another wrench. Gently move the supply tubes back to clear the path of the hose.

Connecting your new Moen faucet to the existing flexible water supply lines will require using a wrench to snug up the connections. Some models will now include flexible supply lines. For these installations, remove the old flexible supply lines from the existing stop valves and attach the new lines directly to the valves. In either case, be careful not to over-tighten.

9. Flushing Instructions:
Pipe chips, stones, and other solids found in new and renovated plumbing can damage the sealing surfaces of the cartridge and cause a leak. To avoid damage to your new faucet, do not turn on the supply valves until you have followed these flushing instructions. Pull hose out of spout receptor, tie a cloth around the hose to keep it from slipping back into the spout receptor. Unscrew the pull-out spout and remove the screen washer.

Turn on supply valves. Direct hose into sink, then turn the faucet on in the full cold position to turn on the cold water supply for 15 to 20 seconds. Turn off the cold supply valve.

Now turn to the hot position and turn on the hot water supply for another 15 to 20 seconds and then turn off the hot supply valve.

Place handle in closed position. Reinstall the screen washer and pull-out spout. Turn on the hot and cold supply valves and test for leaks.

10. Unscrew the aerator from the end of the spout and clean the cone screen. Then replace the aerator and check the system for leaks. Your new Moen Faucet Trim Kit is now ready for normal use.

Efforts to promote the WaterSense program underscore Kohler’s commitment to water conservation

Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath design and technology, was chosen by the Environmental Protection Agency’s WaterSense program as the Manufacturing Partner of the Year for the second time in as many years as the award has been in existence.

“Kohler is honored to be recognized by the EPA for the company’s efforts promoting the WaterSense program. And, we are extremely proud to be the first and only two-time recipient of this significant award for water efficiency,” said David Kohler, president and COO for Kohler Co. “Kohler has a large stake in the availability of clean, safe water. EPA launched the WaterSense Awards program in 2008, honoring work performed during 2007. Kohler received the inaugural award in 2008. STEP 1: POSITION THE FAUCET

Begin installing your faucet by placing the gasket and faucet in position on the sink. (Diagram A)
From under the sink, thread the plastic mounting nuts onto the faucet shanks. Be sure the large side of each plastic mounting nut is up. (Diagram B)
From the top of the sink, check the faucet and gasket position. (Diagram C)
From under the sink tighten the mounting nuts, making certain not to over-tighten which could damage the nuts and make them difficult to remove in the future. (Diagram D)

STEP 2: ATTACH THE WATER SUPPLY TUBES

Water is typically supplied to the faucet through water-supply tubes.
Wrap the threads of the water-supply valve with Teflon tape. Although most plumbers use only Teflon tape, some plumbing supply manufacturers also recommend using plumber’s putty. (Diagram A)
Thread the water supply nut onto the shut-off valve. Tighten the nut with a wrench. (Diagram B)
Wrap the threads on the faucet shank with Teflon tape, and then thread the water supply nut onto the faucet shank. (Diagram C)
Tighten the nut with a basin wrench. (Diagram D)

STEP 3: CONNECT THE FAUCET LIFT ROD

From the top of the sink, insert the lift-rod into the faucet. (Diagram A)
From under the sink, make sure the pivot-rod is in the down position. Insert the lift-rod into the lift-rod strap. Tighten the screw.
From the top of the sink, make sure the lift-rod opens and closes the drain plug as desired. (Diagram B)
Make any needed adjustments by loosening the lift-rod strap screw and repositioning the lift-rod.
If you need to connect the lift-rod strap to the pivot rod, slide one end of the spring clip onto the pivot-rod.
Make sure that both the pivot -rod and the lift-rod are in the down posittion. Insert the pivot-rod in the closest hole in the lift-rod strap.
Slide the other end of the pivot-rod. Make sure the lift-rod opens and closes the drain plug as desired.
Make minor adjustments by loosening the lift-rod strap screw and repositioning the lift-rod. (Diagram C)
Make major adjustments by removing the spring clip and moving the pivot-rod to a different hole in the lift-rod strap.

STEP 4: FLUSH THE FAUCET

Anytime you work on plumbing, filings, chips, and other debris can fall into the plumbing pipes.
This debris can damage the sealing surfaces inside the faucet and cause leaks.
Remove aerator and black sealing gasket above it.
Before turning on the water supply, make sure the faucet handles are open (on position) in order to remove the debris without causing damage. (Diagram A)
Open both water supply valves under the sink. (Diagram B)
Allow the water to run for 15 seconds. (Diagram C)
Close the faucet handles (turn off).
Make sure any debris is cleaned from the aerator screen. (Diagram D)
Replace the aerator. (Diagram E)

The following chart illustrates recommendations for maintaining the original appearance of your new Moen® stainless steel kitchen sink. By following these suggestions, your sink will look great and be worry-free for many years to come.

Steel wool pads to clean your sink. This can cause rust or pitting of the sink surface.

AVOID:
Avoid leaving rubber mats, wet sponges, cloths and cleaning pads to sit in the sink. Food particles and deposits can cause discoloration. Avoid leaving liquid soap to dry on the sink surface. Many detergents contain chemicals that can dull the finish, cause pitting or staining. Avoid using bleach in your sink. Bleach, even dilluted, can cause corrosion if left in your sink for extended periods of time. If bleach comes in contact with your sink, rinse thoroughly.

NOTE:
Water quality can also affect the appearance of your sink. Where hard water or water with high iron content is present, a brown stain, looking like rust, may appear. In areas with water of a high concentration of minerals or oversoftened water, a white film may appear on the sink. If either condition exists, we recommend drying the sink with a soft towel after each use.
