What Happens in Vegas, Stays in Vegas – In a Nutshell

The advertising agency of R&R Partners, Inc, created the slogan, “What Happens Here, Stays Here” for the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority (LVCVA). In 2004, the LVCVA sold its interests in the slogan to R&R Partners for $1. R&R has applied to register its trademark of the slogan.

However, Dorothy Tovar of Placerville, California, registered a trademark of a similar slogan, “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas,” and is reportedly using it on T-shirts and underwear sold at Las Vegas souvenir shops and elsewhere.

R&R Partners and the LVCVA have sued Ms Tovar and her company “Pure Pleasure” for trademark infringement because of the “What Happens in Vegas Stays in Vegas” products.

Why Hatred Against United States in the Middle East?

In 1958, President Eisenhower, in an internal discussion, observed to his staff “There’s a campaign of hatred against us in the Middle East, not by governments, but by the people.” The National Security Council discussed that question and said, yes, and the reason is, there’s a perception in that region that the United States supports status quo governments, which prevent democracy and development and that we do it because of our interests in Middle East oil. Furthermore, it’s difficult to counter that perception because it’s correct. It ought to be correct. We ought to be supporting brutal and corrupt governments which prevent democracy and development because we want to control Middle East oil, and it’s true that leads to a campaign of hatred against us.

As long as we are supporting harsh, brutal governments, blocking democracy and development because of our interests in controlling the oil resources of the region, there will be a campaign of hatred against the United States.

“Give me Liberty, or give me Death!” is a famous quotation attributed to Patrick Henry from a speech made to the Virginia Convention. It was given March 23, 1775, at St. John’s Church in Richmond, Virginia, and is credited with having swung the balance in convincing the Virginia House of Burgesses to pass a resolution delivering the Virginia troops to the Revolutionary War. Supposedly in attendance were Thomas Jefferson and George Washington. Reportedly, the crowd, upon hearing the speech, shouted, “To arms! To arms!”
