Apparently, food isn’t the only thing that takes up Coco’s brain space.  Clothes and accessories also take up a goodly portion.  He also has a collection of different horseshoes as well.

Speaking of horseshoes, did you know that they come in various shapes?  The type of shoe a horse uses depends on the type of work it’s doing.  There’s actually a slight controversy regarding the use of horseshoes.  Some feel that horses don’t need them and that it’s better for them to go without it.

Coco’s current shoes are mithril, lined with both cold iron and silver (for those random fey and lycanthrope encounters).

Yes, a gorilla is indeed a strange sight around these parts, much less a gorilla in a tutu.

Aaaand, that’s a failed Intimidate check.  I think it’s fairly safe to say that the fellows have failed this current skill challenge…

The best example of a gate-construct that I’ve seen is probably the one in Labyrinth (you know, the movie from the 80s with David Bowie?).

I have mixed feelings about skill challenges in 4e.  It’s nice that skill use and how they correspond to difficulty and XP has been defined.  But it sometimes makes for strange, convoluted rationalizations as to why certain skills should apply to a particular challenge (Arcana to cross a ravine for example).

Some DMs solve this by not announcing a skill challenge at all.  This can also create difficulties however, such as PCs using skills they aren’t proficient in or using up valuable resources to boost skill checks outside of actual skill challenges.

How would you present the current goal the companions have (find information about their humans) as a skill challenge?

Something happened (not quite sure what exactly) when my hosting site reset their servers and it broke something in my old site (?).  I’m going to take this opportunity to finally do some tweaks to the site that I’ve been meaning to do in CSS.  It’s going to take me a bit to figure that stuff out, so please bear with this basic site for a few days.

Now is a good time though to let me know if there are any features that you would like to see on the site.

Remember when monsters used to be assigned letters for treasure types, back in the BECMI boxed sets?  I think it was treasure type H that had the largest variety of quality gems, magic items and jewelry pieces.  Mostly only dragons had them.  I recall thinking that it was strange that Diamonds were not the most expensive piece of gemstone in those tables.  Rather that belonged to Jacinths.

In FG news, there was a slight problem with the servers on Wednesday.  The site was down for most of the day and I’m still trying to figure out what went wrong.

I forget which edition of Final Fantasy it was, but I recall one version where it was actually to your benefit to wander around the wilderness for a while, fighting random encounters.  You can get several levels killing random things in the wilderness and since the bosses were at a fixed level, it made the fights trivial. 

It was a mind-numbingly boring way to play though.

I can’t help but wonder whether or not you can apply the same principle in D&D.  Kill a million dire rats before you confront Tiamat…

Do you know someone who is somewhat pedantic and likes to answer all questions asked, even rhetorical ones?  Do you know someone that likes to ask questions for no reason, even inane ones?

Try to get them together in group and assign them a task.  It’s fun.
