Former America’s Next Top Model judge Paulina Porizkova, who was pink-slipped back in May, says it’s a “public punch in the face.” Making matters worse? It happened the night before her 44th birthday.

Paulina writes in a new blog post: “When you get fired at 44, it’s a slap in the face that takes you backward to sink into your well-worn couch and to reexamine your life, to re-evaluate your place in the world. In all honesty, getting fired from Top Model was nowhere near as tragic as I’d like to make out. It’s mostly a slight public humiliation, and one that I decided to perpetuate myself. It in no way compares to the thousands of people who have been laid off and are struggling to survive. Still, I wouldn’t have minded to walk away with an extended middle finger and a victorious ‘I quit!’”

She adds that she’s “available for hire.”

George Clooney was looking rather prim and proper when he visited the G8 summit in L’Aquila, Italy today (July 9) where an earthquake destroyed the region in early April.

Flying in aboard a helicopter from his home in Lake Como, the 48-year-old actor was there for the grand opening of a new movie theater.

Accompanied by Nobel Peace Prize winner Betty Williams and European Commission chairman Jose Manuel Barroso, gorgeous George helped open the ‘Nobel for Peace’ cinema at a campsite for people displaced during the earthquake.

The hunky Hollywood star shook hands and listened as people described how they had lost their homes and the efforts being made to rehouse them.

Said Mr. Clooney: “It seems very important to focus attention on an area so ravaged by the earthquake and if my presence gets media attention I’m happy. These guys want to go home. I live in California and I am used to earthquakes. It’s important that the world leaders gathered here do more for Africa, because so far they haven’t always done what they should have done.”

Looking characteristically disheveled, Helena Bonham Carter was spotted out and about in London today (July 9) after lunching with her director hubby Tim Burton.

The 43-year-old actress kept a few steps ahead of her man as she rushed home — and now it appears we might know why.

Helena has revealed that she suffered from incontinence shortly after giving birth to her second child.

Speaking to The London Paper, she says: “I was ill-equipped as I’d just had a baby. I wasn’t very fit. You have pelvic floor problems after having a baby and bladder control is minimal. Every time I screamed I wore nappies.”

Helena claims that she should have taken more time off after giving birth.

“I didn’t have much of a break,” she says. “I had the baby but three months later I was hauled off to the set.”

Barack Obama took a break from talks at the G8 summit today (July 9) to witness first hand the devastation caused by April’s earthquake in L’Aquila.

Walking through the narrow streets of the old town, there was little to see but collapsed buildings and piles of rubble. Obama offered his condolences to city officials and thanked emergency workers for their continuing efforts.

Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi moved the G8 summit to L’Aquila from Sardinia to show solidarity with the townspeople. He was also on hand to show other world leaders like Russian President Dmitri Medvedev around the flattened neighbourhoods. Nearly 300 people died in the earthquake and around 50 000 were left homeless.

The city is still experiencing aftershocks, but worry not — G8 leaders are completely safe as they have been briefed on emergency evacuation plans, with 12 helicopters on standby to fly them to Rome if necessary.
