In the design world, purple, the colour of royalty and spirituality, needs to be handled with care. When used in correctly, the colour can kill a design stone dead.

This is not the case with French furniture company Moustache’s Bold chair by Matali Crasset.

Nudging on a deep mangenta, the chair is playful in design and lends itself effortlessly to a punch of purple.

Now if only we could figure out how to actually sit on this thing….

KNIT LIGHT

Knit has been popping up for some time now.

Ideas playing with this traditional and very domestic craft get a twist when their colour, perception, scale and usage is given a new spin.

In honor of this trend, big name manufacturer Casamania brought out the aptly ame Granny lamps with chunky woolly jumper like shades.

Who knew lighting could look and feel so comforting?

Nike Music Shoe is an ad for the Nike Free Run+ shoe, showing DJs Hifana with a set of modified trainers, bending the flexible soles to control different sounds and effects.

It’s interesting as it uses the product not for its original purpose but in a modified way as a performance tool.

However the product maintains all of its visual important qualities; we only wish we could buy them like this.

FUN FUR

Not everyone in the design world is playing it safe.

Such is the case with Italian furniture company Edra. Their Flintstones style boulder sofa is covered in gold lame and different thicknesses of fake fur.

The Barbarian collection is outrageous and certifable that you have to admire their chutzpah.

Last year it was all about literal interpretations of flowers. This year it’s all about how we perceive flowers and plants through different mediums; the camera, the pen and paintbrush, the engraving and even artisan embroidery.

Taking a more homey approach, the Primavera chaise by Alotof Design from Brazil uses the work of local artists and craftsmen to create something fun and functional.

When it comes to this chair, to power is in the number of flowers.

Chair company Emeco has collaborated with Coca Cola to create its classic Navy Chair from 111 recycled bottles and gamely atttempts to redress the low levels of recycling in America with a project that has the potential for using three million plastic bottles a year.
