Here are a few Hair Removal FAQ’s, terms and suggestions to keep in mind when researching which method of facial hair removal is best for you:

Hair Removal FAQ’S

Most all methods of hair removal cause some kind of discomfort or skin irritation

Shaving does not change the texture, color or rate of hair growth (really the FDA says so)

Shaving was uncommon in women until after WWI (Yucky or Nice I can’t decide)

Skin should never be shaved dry – wet hair is pliable, soft and easier to cut – and always use a clean sharp razor for a safe and comfortable shave.

Always use a lubricant ( shave gel or shave cream) when shaving to prevent facial hair irritation and get a closer shave.

Depilatories -are like a chemical razor. They are available in creams, gels, lotions, aerosol and roll-on forms.

Always perform a small UN-noticeable skin test for allergic reactions and sensitivity when trying any hair removal product.

Waxing systems should never be used over varicose veins, moles or warts.

Hormonal changes can cause new hair growth in areas where hair removal has already treated.

Stress can actually slow hair growth and/or cause the hair to become brittle and weak. (maybe a good reason to stress)

Men usually request hair removal treatment for the area between the eyebrows, outside of the ears, shoulders and most popular back hair removal.

Women usually request facial hair removal – the lip, chin, eyebrows and neck but also request treatment for bikini hair removal. Other common hair removal areas include abdomen, breast, forearms and underarms.

Hair Removal Tips

For perfect eyebrow plucking – use an old mascara brush that has been cleaned and comb the eyebrow upward. Pluck any hair that are stray, if the hairs are long, get a pair of scissors and trim them, if you don’t it will look like you over twee-zed.

Estrogen discourages hair growth helping to slow the growth cycles.

Applying baby oil after shaving can reduce itching and irritation. It also softens the hair follicle for an easier shave next time.

No dry shaving – if the shave cream can is empty use some unscented lotion or even liquid hand soap.

If you have irritation after a hair removal treatment use hydro-cortisone cream for relief, it’s inexpensive and available just about anywhere!

To prevent ingrown hairs after hair removal use a lotion containing alpha-hydroxy acid, it exfoliates the skin.

If you going to use a waxing system, the hair needs to be about 1/4 inch long for best results. That means you are going to have to skip shaving for a few weeks!

A few tips for growing facial hair – strange thought I know but read on anyway!

If you have ever plucked to much hair – apply vitamin e over the plucked area, the hair will grow faster and thicker

Want thicker and longer eyelashes? Use baby shampoo – no kidding – simply wash your eyes with warm water, put some baby shampoo on a q-tip, apply to the eyelash and massage for about 1 minute then rinse well. It takes about a week to see the results

Finding a Facial Hair Removal method can be time consuming, often painful and expensive. You need to understand the different options available for hair removal, then you can decide on the treatment best suited to your needs.

Facial Hair Removal Methods range not only in price but also in results. Options can include inexpensive treatments with shavers or over the counter chemical products that provide temporary results.

For a more permanent option you can try electrolysis or laser hair removal, but of course these methods do come with a high price tag and results are not always as permanent as you might think.

Let me break each method down one by one including the advantages and disadvantages of each:

Temporary Facial Hair Removal Options:

“Depilation” is the term for temporary removal of facial hair at the skin level. This form of removal can last for several hour to several days but is not permanent.

Shaving – This is the most common method of hair removal. It’s inexpensive, painless (usually), safe and can be done at home. The major disadvantage it the short term effects as it only lasts a few hours to a few days.

Depilatories – This common inexpensive method of hair removal using chemical gels, creams, lotions, roll-ons and aerosols for dissolving hair from the skins surface. Disadvantages include short term effects as well as skin irritation and chemical burns.

“Epilation” – removing the hair from the root. This form of facial hair removal can last several days to several weeks.

Plucking – use of tweezers or fingers to pluck or pull the hair out a popular method for removing hair below the skins surface. This method does last longer that shaving or using depilatories. Disadvantages include – impractically for large areas and a slow process.

Waxing Hair Removal – hot or cold wax is applied then removed with a strip – a fast and inexpensive method for hair removal where hot wax is applied to the skin, a cloth is pressed against the wax and removed quickly pulling the hair with it. Disadvantages can include sensitivity and allergic reaction. Caution should also be used by those with diabetes, circulatory problems and those susceptible to infection as this method can leave skin sores open to infection.

Threading Hair Removal (AKA khite or fatlah) – A popular method for facial hair removal in which cotton thread is used to pull hair out by its roots. This does have to be done by a professional. This method can Disadvantages can include a bacterial infection in the hair follicle called folliculitis, changes in skin pigment and skin redness and puffing.

Rotary Epilators – Also known as rotary coils this method uses an electrical device that grasps the hair and pulls it out by the root. Disadvantages include pinching, difficulty in proper use and ingrown hairs.

Permanent Facial Hair Removal Options:

Electrolysis Hair Removal – a permanent facial hair removal method in which an electrical current is used to kill the hair root and prevent regrowth. Each hair follicle must be destroyed individually making this method expensive and time consuming. Disadvantages can include the cost for treatment as many treatments with a professional are required. Can also cause pain, facial hair irritation and scarring if not done properly by a professional.

Laser Hair Remover – a popular permanent hair removal method with not so permanent results. Let’s call this method longer lasting instead of permanent. The Laser method a topical black-colored solution is applied to the area then a laser is scanned across it. The solution penetrates the hair follicle and the material in it absorbs the laser wavelength, which heats ans destroys the hair follicles. Laser Hair Removal does come with a hefty price tag and must be preformed by a licensed professional. Disadvantages can include skin irritation, expense, and length of time to achieve results.

Facial Hair removal can range from quick and easy to expensive and painful. The method you choose should best fit your individual needs. You can get rid of that facial hair, the hard part is going to be deciding on what method works for you!

So is there really a permanent system for removing facial hair? I have asked myself this question many times and if you looked in my medicine cabinet you would think no. I have tried every available hair removal product on the market today and although I did find temporary results sometimes the price or side effects was not worth it.

I have used many of the chemical creams and found some success with them but the burning or skin irritation was not worth the short term results. Then there’s the rotary coils that sit nice and snug in my bathroom cupboard. One word comes to mind when I see these – OUCH! These are somewhat like electric razors with fast spinning metal springs that rip the hair right out.

And let’s not forget the wax treatment kits. With this method you apply the thick wax to your upper lip, legs or whatever part of the body you are wanting to remove hair from. You then cover the wax with the cloth strip and RIP it away, the faster you rip, the better, it lessens the pain!

Yes I have tried most everything in my quest to achieve permanent facial hair removal and nothing has given me the results I desired. So with some online research I have found a few more options that might hold promise for removing the unwanted hair above my lip or the uni-brow I pluck non-stop.

The first permanent hair removal procedure I looked into was laser hair removal. Laser treatment is common today but its not a permanent proof option. You would want to consider this method long-lasting but not permanent in most cases. The cost of laser hair removal is about $500 bucks per laser treatment. Not an option with my budget these days but again the results can be long-lasting.

The laser hair removal procedure is pretty basic, a solution is applied to the desired area, then with a hand held laser light the solution is heated and it destroys the hair follicle. This method must be administered by a licensed professional.

The second option – electrolysis. This one is as close to a permanent hair remover as you are going to get. The electrolysis hair removal is a method of sending tiny little electrical shocks into each hair follicle through a needle and killing the hair root altogether.

The main drawback I found with this method of permanent hair removal is that this has to be done hair follicle by hair follicle. Many visits over a long period of time will be required to get the results desired. It must also be noted there is some pain associated with this procedure as well.

I can easily assume electrolysis is not recommend for large areas of hair removal. This option would be great for small areas such as upper lip, brow, under arm and bikini lines.

The electrolysis hair removal method is also very pricey and time consuming but the results seem to be promising if a permanent facial hair removal system is what your looking for.Similar Posts:

There is a home remedy for just about everything these days and so I set out to search for some natural Facial Hair Removal Information. I have tried many of the chemical creams, gels and powders and most all of them irritated my skin, left ingrown hairs or made the area above my upper lip look like it had been attacked by a porcupine.

With a little online research I was able to come up with quite a few natural methods for removing facial hair that seemed so simple and inexpensive. I also found a few natural remedies for repairing the uncomfortable side effects related to hair removal systems.

Natural Options For Facial Hair Removal

Shaving Hair Removal – of course I only recommend this method of facial hair removal for men – this method is not recommend for female facial hair. Shaving is a short term solution and probably more natural than any other method.

Waxing Hair Removal – an inexpensive method to removal face hair but also commonly used for body hair removal as well. You can easily purchase the home waxing kits at most drug or cosmetic stores. Wax kits are available in hot or cold wax. There are a wide variety of waxing products that are Eco friendly and made with organic ingredients.

Pluck Pluck Pluck – yes break out the tweezers. I recommend this natural method to those with only a few hairs to remove. Also the cheap dollar store tweezers do not work as well, save yourself some plucking pain and get a high-quality pair of tweezers.

Facial Hair Threading – Not so common of a method but one of the most appealing to me. Cotton thread is used to pull the hair out by it’s roots and can be done at your favorite salon.

Kalo supplements – the natural supplement has been shown to slow hair growth, hair becomes thinner and less noticeable

Soy Soy Soy – yes the ever so popular soy bean. Soy contains phytoestrogen which discourages hair growth and slow the hair growth cycles. Consume soy products and you just might see a decrease in facial hair.

Some Tips For Relieving The Pain From Hair Removal

Hydro-cortisone cream can soothe the irritated skin after a hair removal treatment

Apply a lotion containing alpha-hydroxy acid after any treatment for hair removal, it exfoliates the skin which helped prevent ingrown hairs.

When plucking with tweezers, use the index finger of your free hand to pull the skin tight in the opposite direction allowing the hair to pluck much easier.
