Godfrey Thorogood, pastor of Willow Creek Baptist Church, Midhurst. will be speaking on internships. He will be answering questions like: What is the value of internships? Why should we invest in interns? Are internships something that only large churches can pull off?

FEBToronto is pleased to welcome Ed Stetzer, author of Comeback Churches, for a one-day workshop on Church Revitalization. The workshop takes place on Wednesday, September 30 at Richview Baptist Church (map).

Ed Stetzer has planted churches in New York, Pennsylvania, and Georgia and transitioned declining churches in Indiana and Georgia. He has trained pastors and church planters on five continents, holds two masters degrees and two doctorates, and has written dozens of articles and books. Ed served for three years as seminary professor at the Southern Seminary in Louisville, Kentucky and has taught at fifteen other seminaries. He is currently the Director of Lifeway Research and Lifeway’s Missiologist in Residence.

The workshop is free. A freewill offering will be taken to help with expenses. We are grateful to FEBCentral and Fellowship Networks for partnering with us in holding this event.

Our September meeting will take place on Thursday, September 17 from noon to 2:00 p.m. at Morningstar Christian Fellowship (map). Paul Robertson, a youth culture specialist, will be speaking. Lunch is provided.

We haven’t yet had our May Rally, but I wanted to let you know about our June meeting so you can mark it down in your calendar.

The meeting will take place on June 18 from 12-2. The location is Adam Rumball’s rooftop condo lounge, with a TV, pool table and kitchen. There will also be Wii bowling and table games.

We will also hold a brief meeting to approve changes to our by-law in order to qualify for charitable status. Details to come.

The cost is $10 including food. There is lots of free underground parking a rear circle & TTC access to front. 2119 Lake Shore Blvd West, Etobicoke. Check in with security and go to the Voyager 2 Rooftop Lounge.

Greg is author of God in the Alley: Being and Seeing Jesus in a Broken World, and The Twenty Piece Shuffle: Why the Poor and the Rich Need Each Other. He is the founder of Sanctuary Ministries of Toronto, the current director of the organization and pastor of the Sanctuary community.

Next Meeting

Our next meeting will take place on Thursday, January 15 from noon to 2:00, at Morningstar Christian Fellowship. Stan Fowler will be the speaker. Stan is the academic dean and professor of theology at Heritage Seminary. Please mark the date in your calendars.

Would You Like to Host a Meeting?

We’re always looking for churches who are willing to host us and provide a lunch. If you are able to host a meeting of our Association in the first half of 2009, please let us know. A portion of the $8 fee goes toward paying the costs of the food.

Pastoring Pastors

Our association executive believes that there is a need to provide pastoral care among our pastors. To assist us in that process have asked Todd Riley (Islington Baptist) and Stephen Hamburger (Scarborough Baptist) to come alongside us and help us do that. Basically Todd will be connecting with the eastern pastors of our assocaition while Steve will be connecting with our the western section of our association.

City-Focused Strategy

This short article by Tim Keller on the importance of city-focused strategy is definitely worth reading:

As the city goes, so the arts, scholarship, communication, philosophy, commerce, etc. goes. From the beginning, cities have been centers of cultural power…Reach the city to reach the world. In general, missions should concentrate more on cities than anywhere else.

2009 Events

We are planning another prayer rally in May 2009. We also have a training day on revitalizing existing churches on the books for September/October 2009. Stay tuned.
