Well, we are back at it once more and the sports world waits with baited breath on the return of Tiger . . . again!

Although his last outing at the PGA was not what I had expected, my hopes are again high for a Tiger resurgence. This time it’s not all about Tiger. It’s about the premature Presidents Cup pick by Fred Couples and the state of Tiger’s game that has had a few weeks to find itself. I will say that I liked the slight changes to his swing at the PGA, although it didn’t produce a lot of great results.

Tiger has had time now to strengthen the knee and achilles, and work with a healthy body on the new swing move with Sean Foley. To his defence, he has given his heart to his return to the game and has tried to worked through changes with a broken “machine.” Hopefully he is really healthy this time around, and if he is – look out!

Let’s wait and see if Tiger can rise again from another swing change and make Freddie look like a genius.

I personally am looking forward to a Tiger Woods-Adam Scott/Steve Williams match up in Melbourne.

Even when Tiger isn’t playing he’s making news… again. At least this time it’s about golf.

This time time it’s the Presidents Cup and his “early” selection to the team by captain, Fred Couples. This choice is either going to make Fred look like a hero or a zero. I’m going for the hero.

If Tiger didn’t believe he could honestly help the US team out in Australia, he wouldn’t accept. I think he is finally getting healthy and working hard to get ready for 2012. The selection will also motivate Tiger to let us see the state of his game heading into next season. He has already embarrassed himself enough lately by his unTigerlike play. I think he’s about to turn the corner and show us more of what we saw at the Masters.

Now the drama awaits. Will they pair Tiger up against Adam Scott and let Tiger and Steve Williams duke it out Down Under!! I can’t wait.

Let’s hope we see a Sunday battle in Australia. The PGA Tour needs all the help it can get with trying to keep up with the Ryder Cup.

Severiano Ballesteros.

A name that can easy be put on the VERY short list list of “Golf Heros”. That list is quite different than “golf greats” in my book. There have been many great players that have put a peg in the ground. Miller, Crenshaw, Kite, Demeret, Nelson, Snead, Watson and Floyd are just a few that I personally believe to be the “great” players in the history of the game. Their records speak for themselves. But they weren’t heros. Well maybe to a few, but not to the masses.

The hero list in my opinion is very short. Nicklaus, Hogan, Jones, Hagen and Palmer. And of course my personal hero, Seve. These are the men that changed the game during their eras and the way it is played today. They transcended golf and made fans out of non golfers. Very much like Bobby Orr was to me. I never played hockey but Bobby Orr was and still is to this day, one of my heroes in sport. Seve was loved by the world for his passion, respect for the game and his movie star looks.

The way he played has never been seen with the exception of maybe Tiger Woods. Seve went to the first tee with the passion that everyone of us wishes we lived our lives. Win or lose, he shook the hand of his competitor with a caring look in his eye. Something we can all teach our children. A lesson that should be valued.

Thank you for the memories. You will be missed.

I don’t know about you, but it seems like the world, not just the golf world, is still reeling from the Masters tournament a couple weeks ago. The many possibilities that could have risen from that awesome Sunday have more than just golfers still talking about the tournament.

I don’t know if anyone even noticed that the PGA Tour did continue last week at the Valero Texas Open. There always seems to be a letdown after an amazing sporting event and the world of that sport comes to an end days after. Remember how you felt after Canada won the gold in Vancouver? I’m sure you felt like I did and didn’t want the game and the party to end!!

Oh well, we do continue on and in Canada (most of Canada anyway) is anxiously waiting to get on the links and start smashing it around. May your golf season be filled with the excitement of April 10, 2011… Thank you Charl Schwartzel for firing us up for 2011!! In case you don’t remember, he’s the guy that won.
