The task of managing their web site for maximum traffic, lead and sales is the most difficult problem for many small business owners. There always seems to be a lot to do and there is never enough time to get it all done.

Herewith I like to highlight the ten essential tips for maintaining a successful web site. If you follow these ten tips your site will do better. There are too many different factors that impact web success but in general these ten tips will always lead to better performance.

Lots of Relevant Content

Keep it New and Current

Do not try to Tricks search Engines

Have lots of back Links

Easy to follow Structure

Make it Accessible to all

Quality Code and Navigation

Content keyword in URLs

User Friendly Style and layouts

Relevant and Quality Images and videos

#1 Relevant Content

Content is essential key to website traffic
Search engines scan a sites content now – almost ignoring things like meta tags or title tags. The more content you have on your site the more the search engines will like your site but there is more to it than that: people like content too. Many people measure a web site’s success by the number of visitors it gets. Why would anyone come to your web site? Do you offer them interesting and informative information that relates to your product or service? If not, why should they come?

Relevant content and lots of it is a key for a successful web site. There is always room for more content on a web site, and you can never have too much. Writing articles about aspects of your industry is a great way to generate content. Make sure you add new content to your web site every day or at least once every week.

#2 Fresh and Current content

Keep it current and update
Having lots of content is not enough but it has to be new and current. The search engines actually like new content your site. They monitor how frequently your site changes as they visit it for indexing. The more often it changes the better your rank in the freshness category.

What constitutes change? All changes help but keeping a BLOG or adding frequent news articles to your web site usually produces such good results. It is also the reason why having something as simple as rotating content and the current date on every page has been shown to make a difference (although the search engines have been getting wise to this kind of tactic)

#3 Don’t try to Trick Search Engines

Don’t try to outsmart the Search Engines – You will loose Eventually
Many website designers promise success through the use of tricks, backdoors, and special tactics designed to sneak a web site into a top position rapidly. Search engines are constantly battling to defeat this. Why play the game? When the search engines find the cheaters they will plug the holes and a rank will immediately be lost. Follow the rule and the Search Engines will reward you.

#4 Back Links

Links both in and out must be relevant
There has been a lot of talk about link exchanges – people linking to others merely to gain a higher rank. If you are going to link to someone and/or ask them to link to you will only be counter productive. Relevant back links from social networking sites and authority sites will help high ranking for your site. You should have relevant links places throughout your web site – on only those pages that specifically the topic that relates to the page being linked to. Unfortunately you can’t exert too much control over the way that other sites link to yours but it is worth looking at how a site usually links to others before to specifically go requesting a link from them.

#5 Site Structure

Organize your web for easy read and navigation

Both the search engines and your web visitors prefer a web site that is well structured. The search engines due to their very nature (being computer programs) must break down all web sites into elements based on the structure of the pages. People, so frequently rushing to find the specific information they are looking for, rarely read through web pages but rather scan headings and bullied lists to find the detailed sections of interest. In both cases a well structured site will be far better received than one that is a lot of information haphazardly thrown together. Make headings, use the correct coding tags for them, organize sections of content into groups, and use bold and bullied lists to present key points. Keep in mind when writing paragraphs of text that most humans will not read them unless they are specifically titled with a headline that matches what they are looking for.

#6 Make It Accessible to All

A web site that speaks to all is better then a site that only speaks to some.
Tips #6 and #7 are closely related: The Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) provides a list of guidelines for how to create web sites that are accessible to as many people (and systems) as possible. Think about your web site – can someone with a visual disability (perhaps even something as simple as colour-blindness) still get information about your product or service? If not, how do you feel knowing that you have just excluded a vast segment of the population from accessing your web site?
There are many simple ways that you can ensure your web site is accessible to people with special needs. A group of simple tests for the sites content and design that ensure your product or service is presented to the widest possible audience. The specifics are beyond the scope of this document – but be sure that you check with your designer to ensure that your site design and code is following accessibility guidelines.

#7 Quality Code and navigation

Well coded web sites perform better.
Many small business owners don’t have too much control over the code used to create their web site – but it is still important to know how important it may be. Standard compliant code that has been checked for errors is easier for the search engines to assimilate. It is more widely visible across varied platforms (computer types) and in different browsers. Websites on word press themes and other blog platform ranks very high in search engines.

#8 URLs

Your Url should have the keyword of your content Niche
Professional web designers should already know this – but if you are using a content management system to build your web site, or portions of it, it is important to understand the significance of the URL used to access pages on your web site.
Search engines look at the address of every page on your web site and try to extract key-words from the content of the url. For example, you may have a page about “Dog Training” your website should be like www.dogtraining.com or www.yoursite.com/dogtraining. This is a fairly subtle point but makes a significant difference for most search engines. It can also make it much easier for people that are typing in a URL to access a specific page of your web site.

#9 Type Style and Size

Looks do matter – but may not as you like…
Your style should be simple – ensure the style of your site makes it easy to read. Avoid things like black backgrounds with white text (inverse text is harder to read) ALL CAPS (humans read by identifying word shapes – writing in all caps forces people to read every letter and quickly becomes annoying – plus on the net it is used as an typographic method of indicating you are screaming) You should also ensure that visitors with the various types of colour-blindness can still actually read your navigation.

#10 Quality Images

Your Images Should be Relevant to Content or the products that you are selling.

If you are selling something that has a visual representation – then professional looking photography is key. Even a multi-million dollar resort will not look good if the photographs are amateurish. If you care about what you have to sell, then it’s worth investing in some professional photographs to show people what you have. Remember, on-line people can’t get a hold of your product – so you need to give them some really good photographs so that they can feel confident that it meets their needs.

It seems like everyone is marketing things online these days, but some of the internet marketing examples you find online or in marketing strategy books just don’t seem to fit with your site or your marketing plan. Some, in fact, deal with spamming or posting your website all over, and you may not be very comfortable with that. Below are some marketing examples that may be more in like with your personal philosophy.

The more important practice in internet marketing is to be careful with your website. Many people, especially those who have never done a website before, want to make it very colorful or use a lot of fancy animation and such. After all, the idea is to make it grab the viewer’s attention, right?

Not exactly! While walking past a decorated store window may grab people’s attention, it doesn’t quite work that way online. No one is simply walking past your site—if they’re on your page, they you’ve got their attention. What you want to convey right off is what your site or business is about and what you can offer them, not blind them with bright colors.

Those fancy flash menus, movies, and animation aren’t necessary, either. The menus can be fine, but you want to minimize the number of animations and large graphics on your main page. These graphics can take extra time to download, and the animations might actually cause your viewer’s computer to act up if they don’t have the right version of Flash or other add-on installed.

The menus, too, can cause some issues with older versions of internet browsers. Look for some internet marketing examples that use menus that require no extra add-ons or use add-ons that are very, very common. You don’t want a potential customer leaving your website in annoyance because your menu didn’t load or work correctly.

Be aware of the amount of content on your pages, too. Users don’t always want to read huge chunks of text on their monitors, especially since it bothers some people’s eyes. Instead, break up your text into different pages. That’s not to say that you want a bunch of short pages, but you want each major topic or area to have its own page.

If you’re selling items from your website, make certain to set up a way to search your site for particular items. You’ll also want to allow the user to browse your products by different ways—product name, price, and product category are good ideas. Give your customer as many options for finding things as you can.

It’s hard to say exactly what a “great” website is, especially since what’s good and bad can differ by industry or niche. The best advice for designing your website and for marketing on the internet in general is to look at sites in the same market as your site. Incorporate things you like from those sites into yours. The best internet marketing examples, after all, are successful site that attract a lot of customers.

Are you interested in using eBay to buy the products that you need or even sell items that you no longer want? If you are, you will need to create an eBay account, if you haven’t already done so. Although many automatically assume that getting started with eBay is a complicated task, it doesn’t have to be. All you really need to do is follow a few simple steps and you should be good to go.

The first thing that you will want to do is visit eBay’s website, which is located at eBay.com. Once you are at eBay’s website, you can then click on the link that allows you to register a new account. At that stage, you will be brought to a signup form. That signup form will ask you a series of questions. For instance, you will need to enter in your full name, your address, your telephone number, as well as an e-mail address. You will also be required to come up with an eBay screen name or sign in name, as well as an eBay password, which will be used to access your eBay account. Once you have correctly filled out the form, you will be sent a verification email from eBay.

Once you have received eBay’s verification email and followed all of the instructions, which will help you validate your eBay account, you will be able to start using eBay right away. When you first get started, you may need to sign in to your eBay account. As previously stated, you will need to use your eBay sign in name or screen name and password to do so. For that reason, you may want to write down your sign in information and keep it in a safe place. Once you have signed in to your eBay account, you can then do whatever you want; buy or sell.

If you are interested in using eBay to shop online, to buy, you will want to start searching for items to buy. This can be done a number of different ways. eBay allows you to browse through their large selection of items, by detailed categories. You can also perform a standard eBay search or an advanced one. Searches are more likely to give you accurate, tailored results. When browsing or searching for something in particular, you should be able to see a large number of auction listing all on one page. The information that you will be presented with at this time is the standard, bare minimum. If you would like more information on the item in question, such as how much shipping costs or too see additional pictures, you will want to click on the link to view the detailed sales page. Should you like what you see, follow the instructions to buy and you will have made your first purchase on eBay!

As it was previously stated, if you are interested in selling on eBay, to make a little bit of extra money, you can also do so. The only difference is that you are required to pay small fees to become an eBay seller, unlike eBay buyers who have completely free accounts. The amount of money that you are charged will all depend on your auctions, particularly how much you list each item for, as well as how well each item sells. To get started with selling, you will want to click on the “sell,” link at the top of the eBay webpage. What is nice about listing items for sale on eBay it is relatively easy to do. For instance, you need to choose a category for your item, make a headline for your auction listing, write a description of your product, upload pictures of what you are selling, outline shipping costs, as well as accepted forms of payments, but everything is outlined for you, in a step-by-step matter.

Whether you are interested in becoming an eBay buyer or an eBay seller, you can do both, in as little as a few minutes. eBay, as previously mentioned, is considered one the most shopped at online marketplaces. For you, this means that if you are looking to make money on eBay, you should be able to do so and if you are interested in buying on eBay, you should be able to find millions of products to choose from.

There are many different online business that you can create and in this article today we are going to look at a couple of different types. This article focused on creating online businesses and the different types that you can create.

The first kind of businesses that you can create when looking to create an online business would be a website which serves a particular niche in the market. Many people have done on this and this is often done by trying to find an underserved niche, building a website, and then profiting off of this small but profitable match. A great place to find more information on this particular topic would be www.findhotniches.com. Here the author has created a website which finds underserved niches which you could potentially build a website around. When you’re building a website, you’re going to want to find cheap keywords that you can use to help build your business as well as create good content. By creating the content and then creating back links between yourself and other websites, you’ll be setting yourself up to have a high page rank with Google. By using AdWords to bring traffic to your website and then also developing your natural search engine traffic through building up a website, you will have built yourself a very solid business. This is just one way of creating online business.

Another way to you can build and create an online business is through eBay. This is an area which was particularly hot several years ago and still remains a solid business proposition. Many people are able to make a full-time income on eBay. You will need to find a wholesaler where you can get products at a discount to sell on eBay. The general idea when working on selling on eBay is to find a drop shipper. A definition of a drop shipper is a wholesaler sells you a product and will ship the product to a customer. You will buy the product at the wholesale price and then make money on the difference between what you buy the product for and sell the product for on eBay. Using the wholesaler allows you to focus on selling the product without worrying about stocking the product. You do not need to worry about any sort of shipping or backend but you will want to make sure that everything gets sent out. If there are problems with shipments, the customer will be coming back to you and not to the wholesaler to. If you go to worldwidebrands.com, you will find the best wholesale shipping directory on the Internet.

These are two of the different ideas in creating an online business. There are many ways to make money on the Internet but these are two proven methods. You will not have to use a lot of money up front to create these particular online businesses and these businesses can be something that you will have great deal of success with.

Five great and easy ways to make extra money online

Everyone wants to make some extra cash. Perhaps you want to buy new set of clothes, a new pair of shoes or the latest gizmos available on the market or simply, your current job isn’t enough to satisfy your financial expenses. If one or more of the mentioned reasons apply to you, then you’re not alone. People who ventured to making money online have these reasons too. Here are five easy ways to make extra income using the Internet.

1. Become a member of an affiliate program

By joining an affiliate program, you make commissions when you generate sales through the affiliate link. To do this, you promote other peoples products and/or services on your web site. When customers purchase any of these products through your link, then that’s how you earn money. Most affiliate programs are free therefore, you don’t need a big investment for this type of business.

2. Start blogging

Blogs nowadays are one of the most popular ways to generate money online. To start your own blog, select a particular subject to discuss and provide people with useful information and encourage them to comment on your posts. This is how you drive traffic to your blog site. Keep your site updated by adding new articles on a regular basis.

3. Make use of Google AdSense

Another easy way of making money is to rely on the use of Google AdSense. Provided that you keep a regular flow of traffic on your web site, a percentage of visitors would likely click on the ads that interest them. Just be sure never to break any of the rules the Google has implemented upon using Adsense.

4. Join Internet auction sites

There are things that are no longer useful to you yet they may be a treasure to other people. Sites such as eBay allows you to sell your items by posting your items condition, price, etc. You can just imagine the number of people who visit these sites when they are looking for items unavailable to where they reside. Lots of people have made great success by simply selling their used products.

5. Provide people with product reviews

There are sites on the Internet who pay you for every product review you send. Note that prospective customers would like to be given feedback before they purchase an item. The Internet is the most widely used tool when it comes to information. Aside from earning money, you provide people with information that may be very helpful to them.

Yes, it is possible to become a successful Internet marketer and make good money, but it's not an overnight short path to riches that some may have you believe.

Perhaps you’ve given a lot of thought to becoming an Internet marketer and earning a good living from home. There are many things you like about the idea – you get to work from home in your pajamas, you can make a digital product and sell it over and over and over, you can work whenever you want to without punching a time clock and if you want to go to the kids’ school play in the middle of the day, you can. There is also the pull of potentially making more money than you do right now.

Yes, it is possible to become a successful Internet marketer and make good money, but it’s not an overnight short path to riches that some may have you believe. There is a lot of learning that has to happen as well as hard work on your part to find the success and duplicate it again and again.

There are three stages of Internet marketing that you will go through and they’ll be explained here so you understand what’s ahead for you in your big career change.

Stage 1: Information overload and paralysis by analysis

You start off by making the decision to become an Internet marketer. For some, it’s an easy decision and for others it’s hard. Either way, you have to decide to go all the way with it – not just dabble. Sticking your toe in and running the other way the minute you notice the water is a little cold will not get you the results you really desire.

You start reading sales pages and buying products to help you learn the market. They all promise great results if you’ll only take the time to read and follow their instructions. You’re excited because you see the potential. So what happens is you keep buying, keep trying the various business models being promoted, hop from one thing to the next and never give any of them more than 25% of your attention.

You’re now on dozens of marketers’ lists and you spend a good portion of your day reading their emails and following up on their latest promotions. You’re afraid not to read them or you might miss something. There has been so much information coming your way and you’re so busy trying to keep up and absorb it all that you don’t get anything accomplished.

Stage 2: Take focused action

The first stage lasts until one day you wake up and ask yourself what you’re doing and how come you’re not doing anything to make some real money yet. Some people jump ship before they reach this point. But you’ve realized it’s time to opt-out of most of the lists you’re on, pick a business model that resonates with you, become more focused in your learning (and spend less time on it), and begin taking focused action.

You’re fully committed to the one path you’ve chosen and you “drill deep:, and make some mistakes but have consistent success. This is when it starts getting fun, especially when you see consistent money coming into your PayPal account.

Stage 3: Fine tune and make it hands off

Now that you’re having success with the business model you’ve chosen, you will automate it as much as you can. Your emails go out through an autoresponder, your content is automatically delivered to your clients and subscribers, and you’ve got all your systems in place. You can easily duplicate what you’ve done because you’ve created templates, action sheets, and know all the shortcuts.

You are also building a team to work with you. You have a graphic designer, website maker, and article /blog post/ ebook writers at your disposal. You’ve built relationships with other Internet marketers and have affiliates.

Next you’re starting a coaching program to help the new Internet marketers do what you’ve done. You remember what it was like to be in stage 1, don’t you?

Is your Website working? Does your Website attract a steady flow of targeted traffic, build an opt-in list, supply you leads and income from sales of products and services?
If it doesn’t, then you need to examine your Website content, design and structure.

In most cases, Websites are designed and built first. Then the business owners try to figure out how to attract visitors. This approach is backwards.

Before you have a single web page built or content written you should have clearly identified your strategy for attracting visitors and converting them to leads or clients. Using the web to market your product or services requires a website marketing plan.

The web has the potential to be a powerful communication tool, but your Website needs to be designed in order for you to achieve your marketing goals. These goals also have to be measurable.

A Website built and managed without a clear marketing plan is usually a waste of time and money. Many Website are nothing more than web billboards. These sites generally do not attract clients and provide little marketing benefit.

What should you measure?

The most obvious category that can be measured is the amount of traffic that your Website is generating. The key value is the number of unique visitors that come to the Website. There are other values that are important, such as page views and average length of stay.

As you measure these values over time the goal would be to have a steady increase in all of these values.

Of course, if these visitors are not doing anything when they are on your Website they are of little value.

Do you have a call to action?

Your Website should be designed in such a way that your visitors are presented with a call to action. This call to action should be obvious to the visitor. Your call to action is another element that can be measured. How many visitors perform the call to action?

The call to action can take many forms. It may be opting in to a email newsletter list, or filling out a lead form. The ideal action is the purchase of a product or service.

When a site visitor performs the call to action, you have a conversion. The number of conversions divided by the number of Website visitors is the conversion rate.

One of the goals of the Website should be to increase the conversion rate.

Testing

Once you have your measurable elements, traffic and conversions, you can test various ways to make your Website work. You can test various techniques for increasing traffic. Options here include search engine optimization of your Website, pay per click advertising, press releases and article writing.

Then you will also want to increase your conversion rates. Split testing is used to determine how various elements within the web page affect the visitor. You can change the elements on the page such as the headline or color of text and graphics, to measure the affect on the visitor.

Website Goals

You now have the understanding that your business Website should be working for you with a marketing plan. You need a call to action. You need to measure traffic and conversions, and then test to improve the results.

With these measurements in hand, you can now set goals for your Website.
