The McMenamins Now Own the Elks Building

I hope the grocery store locates in Pacific Plaza rather than the Elks location. It’ll hurt Stadium Thriftway and it’s too far from the downtown core/UWT. Doesn’t something more like retail or entertainment belong next to McMenamin’s?

The McMenamins Now Own the Elks Building

“The neighborhood and the whole downtown will become a major cultural and entertainment destination for the entire Puget Sound area,” Pleasants said in the news release.

Construction is supposed to start next fall and they should be open (McMenimins) come spring 2012. I can feel the excitement building. Some financing has to be found for the rest of the project (parking and grocery and apartments) but I suspect they will not have any problem finding the money they need these days.

One Last Day for the Seven Oh One

Another business going out, how sad, I will miss those great 3 dollar martinis. Unfortunately the city is requiring a new stove hood. The usage hasn’t changed but apparently the codes have, the owner had 30 days to install a new hood system, but the $20k price tag was a stake through the heart.
We all believe in code enforcement, but there is absolutely no reason why the work could not be completed in a greater amount of time, say a 120 days. Very-very short sighted. The city needs to learn to work with small business.
Good luck!
