I first heard about artist Dan Estabrook from my friend Sarah Sophie Flicker...she thought I should meet him and showed me one of his pieces that was hanging on her wall at home, and I instantly loved it. Then, some time later, I was reading the 'Book Of Alternative Photographic Processes' by Christopher James, and all these salt prints being used as examples in the book were by Dan Estabrook. So I googled his name to find his website and there it was...a whole portfolio of beautiful, intriguing and curious images. If you'd like to know more about Dan's work...I found a great interview with him HERE. His portfolio online has a ton of images, so be sure to drop by there too!

Dan has a show coming up in Nyc and if you live in the area be sure to go and bring some friends!

Most Of The Time...

I spend most of my time sitting at this table, listening to music and covering my images with paint. This weekend was no different than most...I spent the weekend painting and taking the occasional break to walk Waylon with Brett or talk to my parents on the phone. Today I am beginning my planning for this fun designer collaboration shoot that I am working on this Wednesday! I'm photographing some adorable pieces from Savannah Miller's clothing line. I'm really looking forward to it. Hoping everyone's Monday is going smoothly. :)

Here are three more images that I painted from my shoot Monday with Amanda Charchian. The costume she is wearing in the first photo took me some time to make, but I think it turned out lovely...and the headpiece in the second shot worked out nicely too. I'm glad I took the time to make them. Okay, more coming soon...I am off to paint.

The Road Not Taken

I just started painting the first image from my lastest shoot. I have soooo many images to paint on and I am so excited about it. It was a really fun day spent with my friend, artist Amanda Charchian. I might post some of the unpainted images tomorrow. Here is my first one...a very simple shot of her wearing the costume I made by hand.

The inspiration for my latest shoot with artist Amanda Charchian, was a poem by Emily Bronte. These first images are the abstracted, experimental images...the next round will be the more traditional shots I took, and then lastly I'll be posting painted images. But I am still scannning in the negatives today...so one step at a time. I scanned in these images first...
Here's the poem that inspired the shoot.

Artist Amanda Charchian is captivating. Every time I hang out with Amanda, I go home wanting to conquer my fears and my inner demons...her confident world of YES inspires me. For such a young age, I find that her views on living life are quite mature, and full of simple wisdoms. I'm not even sure how I first found out about Amanda, I think it was 5 or 6 years ago through another artist friend, and back then she was a sophomore at art college. I had wanted her to photograph clothing for Lullie Vintage (back when I had a vintage shop) and she only had a few shoots on her myspace page, but something drew me to her work. We met for lunch and I knew instantly she was unique. I ended up moving back to Nyc shortly after that meeting and we didn't hang out again for a year or so when she happened to be visiting Manhattan. But in the last year, our hangs are happening more and that makes me happy, because she's the kind of girl you can sit on a couch and just chat about life with.

Back then, I think she was concentrating more on her crystal sculptures (she is actively making sculptures and has a show in Nyc this summer) In the last year or two she's really focused on making images and wow, does she ever! Her photography work is breathtaking. Check out her website to see her colorful, artistic images, her sculpture and videos. I'm going to be photographing her this coming Monday. I have been making a costume the past 3 days for her to wear and I am so excited. I hope to capture even a hint of her bewitching charm.

I would like to begin posting about painters & photographers...other artists out there that I personally think are fantastic. To begin with, here is an artist that I very recently came across online...her name is Viviane Sassen and I just love her use of color, it's superb! I first found her images that were published in Dazed & Confused magazine in July 2011...Titled "Bloom ID" (Styling by Katie Shillingford) . That's what caught my attention, and then I googled her name and found this world of color and character! love her images. She is from Amsterdam and from what it seems like, she has been around for quite some time, having shows at the MOMA even! Pretty awesome. Check out her website for more inspiring photos.

Kindred Spirit...A Post About My Friend Hannah Metz

I've always been drawn to people that are completely genuine, humble and honest. Hannah, is one of those ladies in my life that I am really grateful for and always look forward to seeing when I can. We haven't been friends all our lives, in fact we only met a little over a year ago. She lives in Nyc and I now live in Los Angeles, so we have to make the most of the times we do get to hang together...but when we do, it is just so fun and so inspiring...and comfortable. I had such a hard time picking which photos of hers to include in this post, because honestly there are more than I can even count. Hannah is an artist through and through...completely authentic...the kind of artist you picture from the 1800's or something...everything she does pretty much is adorable and creative. She draws, paints, she's designing her own clothing line right now (complete with textile drawings of hers) and she even takes the most beautiful photographs. Oh yah and she has a lingerie line AND a vintage store in Pasadena (& online) called The Loved One...she's just amazing and her blog is just a small glimpse into how she uniquely views the world. :)

If I had to choose one blog to follow and that was it, it would genuinely be hers. Her compositions...self portraits, photography...the ethereal, dreamy world in which she lives is exciting and inspiring and beautiful to look at. Check out her blog and bookmark it!
