Booligan of Airsoft Retreat has reviewed S-Thunder’s Composite Grenade Launcher mentioning the interchangeability pistol grips and they “mounted up a .45 style grip adaptor for a paintball gun, however it is the same design as real steel ARs, so your options are limitless” and in his conclusion, Booligan states that “I am very pleased with this launcher, namely because it is so incredibly compact, and it gives you impressive firepower.”.

Yu-Hon Li, Director of Business Development at S-Thunder mentions that “we will soon be releasing long barrel composite grenade launchers as well as metal versions. One of our goals is to offer a line of grenade launchers which grenadiers can easily set up and quickly fire at targets when needed. During our research, we found that many grenade launchers were not effective when firing M203 type grenade shells when filled with CO2. The trigger and hammer mechanism of several other grenade launchers we tested were either,

- ‘not strong enough’ to properly trigger the CO2 powered grenades when needed
- had very ‘tight’ triggers and required excessive trigger force to activate CO2 powered grenades

Both of these issues significantly increases the reaction time and reduces the performance of grenadiers. Our engineering team designed a simple, but effective mechanism to resolve this and S-Thunder now offers a line of grenade launchers that have,

- a trigger mechanism that is slightly lighter to the touch allowing for a “more comfortable and smooth” trigger control
- a hammer mechanism that has enough “force” to quickly activate CO2 powered grenades when required

S-Thunder’s enhanced trigger and hammer mechanisms will allow players to fire their grenades easier and faster. This is extremely important as it provides grenadiers an added edge by ‘reducing’ reaction time when firing upon a target and therefore increase an individual’s performance.”.

S-Thunder’s grenade launchers are compatible with all brands of 40mm M203 style paintball / airsoft grenade shells, including S-Thunder’s line of Gas Powered Grenades and its line of short & long barrel Gas Powered Foam Ball Grenades which can be used to launch paintballs, bbs, rubber pellets, colored water, smoke powder, confetti as well as 40mm foam rockets. S-Thunder will be introducing additional short and long barrel grenade launchers in the coming months to provide a wider range of choices to best suit each player’s individual needs.

Commenting on the use of composite materials, Yu-Hon states that “S-Thunder is taking full advantage of the wide range of speciality engineered materials that are available today. Several years ago and due to the fact manufacturers were limited by the number of material choices available, metals were used for manufacturing many items. For example, several components in todays modern automobiles utilize engineered composite materials, whereas up to a a few years ago, these same parts were made of more heavy and costly metals. Today, when the choice of materials available is so vast, S-Thunder is utilizing leading edge composite materials in our new line of grenade launchers that are as durable as metal, light weight and more cost effective to manufacture. In keeping with our mission, S-Thunder continues to offer customers functional, innovative, quality and durable products at affordable prices. Our engineering team found unique ways to reduce the manufacturing costs of S-Thunder’s new line of grenade launchers and we are happy to pass these savings directly to our customers. We feel that S-Thunder’s pistol type grenade launchers perform as well or better than most others and are among the lowest priced units available in the market, undercutting many others by 30 to over 50% in price. This will allow for a wider range of grenadiers to have access to these products for use in milsim, scenario, woodsball, CQB as well as for law enforcement and tactical / military training use.”.

The S-Thunder TEAM
www.s-thunder.com
www.youtube.com/sthundertv

Product details of S-Thunder’s foam ball grenades can be found here,
Short Barrel Grenade:
- Powered by: CO2 / Green Gas / Top Gas
- Size: 4cm diameter, 11.5cm height
- Filler: 33mm foam balls, color / smoke powder, confetti
- Filler Volume: 2 foam balls (included in package)
- Sound Volume: 90 dB (CO2 gas)
- Firing Distance: 15 – 20m (CO2 gas)

Long Barrel Grenade:
- Powered by: CO2 / Green Gas / Top Gas
- Size: 4cm diameter, 18cm height
- Filler: 33mm foam balls, color / smoke powder, confetti
- Filler Volume: 4 foam balls (included in package)
- Sound Volume: 90 dB (CO2 gas)
- Firing Distance: 15 – 20m (CO2 gas)

Yu-Hon Li, S-Thunder’s Director of Business Development has noted that “S-Thunder’s new line of CO2 powered long and short barrel foam ball grenades offers airsoft and paintball players something ‘completely’ different to use in paintball, airsoft, milsim, woodsball and CQB games. With the ability to fire a variety of projectiles ranging from 33mm foam balls, foam rockets, smoke / colored powder, confetti and other projectiles, the foam ball grenade offers players a variety of playing options. The long and short barrel grenade units fit in any 40mm grenade launcher and with this, S-Thunder’s grenade can propel a variety of 40mm foam rockets available in the marketplace from most grenade launchers. This greatly expands the usage of these grenades.”

Commenting on the growth of the company and its product lines, Yu-Hon also notes that “S-Thunder has gathered much media attention from magazine publications as well as internet based news outlets the US, Canada, UK, Germany, France, Spain, Italy and Argentina. Interest for our products have been constantly growing as we continue to develop distribution networks in North America, Europe and Asia. We fully appreciate all the support we have received from the media and S-Thunder is continuing to develop new and never seen before items at affordable prices to help elevate the player’s experience and to grow the sport. Our next line of products being introduced will be a line of single and double barrel grenade launchers which are designed specifically for CO2 powered grenade use as we found that many grenade launchers in the market are designed for green gas / top gas / red gas rather than for high powered gases such as CO2. When using higher pressure CO2 gas, players will find that the trigger force required to activate CO2 powered grenades will be less and therefore reduce a player’s reaction time to fire the grenade launcher.”

The demonstration video also features S-Thunder’s “prototype” Double Barrel Grenade Launcher which S-Thunder will introduce at the end on June, 2010. The exterior outlook of the grenade launcher seen in the video is an engineering prototype and not the final version that will be launched.

We revealed prototype pictures of the G&P PMAG for WA GBBR compatible systems back in early June and today we are pleased to inform you that G&P have now released the Magpul GBBR PMAG. For structural integrity purposes, due to the pressures involved with compressed gas, the G&P GBB Magpul PMAGs are CNC’d milled from light but high strength aluminium. This unfortunately makes the magazine heavier than the reinforced polymer real steel PMAG but G&P has worked hard to recreate the famous waffle pattern and it looks good. Capacity is 39rds and the magazine will be available in black and FDE with fully licensed markings from Magpul PTS. No word on price yet.

This agreement will no doubt give WETTI full access to the KAC ‘marks’ (although I was under the assumption that an agreement already existed for the WE Knighthawk) and also it appears that KAC will in fact be making the WETTI KAC PDW and, no doubt, the KAC Knighthawk, available through the Knight’s Armament website which is a first for WETTI. I expect that these will be marketed as tactical training systems which fits with WETTI’s mission.

You just can’t escape the Team Edward vs Team Jacob curse, not even in Airsoft… Follow the links to the Western Arms website for specs and pricing.

It can be said, Viper Tech loves their Vietnam era AR15 gas blowback replicas, so it really comes as no surprise to find a video of a Viper Tech, err… tech lovingly crafting a Colt 601 or 602 aluminium receiver with no more than his hands and a small file. The Colt 601 and 602 AR15’s are of course the rifles that Colt first produced after the acquisition of the rifle from ArmaLite and in 1959, started the black rifle obsession which continues today with the M16 and M4.

The Model 601 was the first “AR15 Model” produced by Colt . Manufacturing started in December of 1959, with the first 300 rifles being produced, and continued until the summer of 1963. Changes made by Colt in the production process would include; painting the furniture green (after approx 100 were made), different roll markings, and changing the aluminium alloy from 7075 to 6061. Less then 14,500 were produced, with serial numbers in the 101-14,484 range. The bulk of the rifles went to the US Military with 8,500 going to the Air Force, 1,000 going to the Army for evaluation in project AGILE, and a handful going to the Navy SEALs.

The Colt Model 602 was built incorporating the first round of changes / improvements (Flashhider, Charging Handle, Lower Components) over it’s predecessor the Model 601. The Model 602 was used by a number of US Military Forces, with the majority of the going to the Air Force. Starting in 1963, approx 19,000 Model 602’s were delivered to US Military Forces.

It was only a matter of time before somebody replicated, in full, EOTech’s popular EOLAD-2 Red Dot sighting/lighting system and Element have stepped up and finally introduced it to the airsoft market after EOTech introduced it to the real steel market in late 2008. G&P released a $70 kit last year that converted a 552 into a EOLAD but it never really took off. So what is an EOLAD-2? Well, basically it’s an 552 Holo integrated with a red laser pointer and tactical illuminator and in the real steel world commands a price tag of over $2500USD. Element hasn’t yet provided price or availability details.
