John Hattie says that Support Staff have zero to negative effect in classrooms.Students who need the most expertise should get the most expertise.Support Staff do not have the expertise - students should have those with most expertise beside them.The last thing we should be doing is allowing Support Staff to be left with students that need most expertise.Because... SS do not have the expertise needed and end up doing the work for the students.Over the years we have been adding more adults to schools.10% students25% of teachers48% Support Staff added to schools - particularly more non expertise adults. This is not helping students that we are getting more adults with less expertise.We need to use Support Staff more positively. (No suggestion as to how this would look).Why do parents/teachers cry out for Support Staff ?- it is their perception that if more Support Staff were allocated then students would get more individual attention.See More
