Lea Michele’s hair and makeup at the Los Angeles premiere of American Horror Story was anything but scary. The Glee star looked gorgeous with face-framing bangs and a stunning updo. Her effortlessly chic hair was complemented with smoldering, smoky eyes and full lashes. To get the details on how to recreate this look at home, we spoke with celebrity makeup artist Kayleen McAdams.

“The focus of the look was the smoky blue eye and healthy, glowing skin,” says McAdams. “To prep the skin, I started with Shu Uemura’s Instant Glow Cream, and then I used Cle De Peau Foundation all over the skin. I used Bobbi Brown Concealer only where needed, and to contour I used Kevyn Aucoin Highlighter in Candlelight and Nars Blush in Luster.” Instead of going for the usual black smoky eye, McAdams added a modern twist by using blue tones. “On the lids I used Dior Eyeshadow in Smoky Navy, and I lined the eyes with Chanel Long Lasting Eyeliner in Marine, a dark navy color. To make the eyes pop, I applied two coats of Chanel Inimitable Intense Mascara in Noir, a deep, rich black to contrast with the blue. Finally, we kept the lips neutral: we used Nars Lipstick in Blonde Venus and topped it off with Chanel Glossimer in Futile,” says McAdams.

Did you love Lea’s look as much as we did? Let us know in the comments!

Catwalk-chic yet totally easy to recreate, this look has been spotted everywhere from the Sherry Hill show in New York (on none other than budding model Kendall Jenner!) to the Nina Ricci show in Paris.

In her runway modeling debut during NYFW, Kendall Jenner made a sensational impression with a sophisticated yet soft updo while her sisters cheered her on from the crowd. Her glamorous gown (it’d be a dream prom 2012 dress!) was perfectly complemented by the chic chignon, which was a change from her usual silky-straight locks. Kendall’s hairstyle is much easier to create than it seems at first glance, and thankfully, LA-based hair expert Paul Anthony from Jose Eber Salon gave us the how-to info.

Hi! My name is Mariana Mandanas and I’m one of the new beauty and health interns at Teen Vogue. I’m originally from Manila, Philippines, and I’m currently a junior at New York University, where I’m majoring in Art History and Classics and minoring in Creative Writing and Communications.

My journey to the wonderful world of Teen Vogue has been quite an interesting one. During my first year of college I was a Finance and Economics major, and then a (short-lived) internship at a banking company made me realize that I was not cut out for the business world. After that, I ended up interning for BPCM, a public relations agency, where I handled a lot of logistics and planning. The best part of this internship was being able to volunteer backstage at the shows during New York Fashion Week, but I was still craving something more creative. Luckily, one of my good friends was interning at Teen Vogue and told me that the fashion department was looking for new interns.

Her look at Dolce & Gabbana’s Spring 2012 show was no exception: The actress highlighted her beauty campaign-worthy good looks with a bold crimson lip and subtly shimmery eyes. “I was inspired by the classic sophistication of the Hollywood starlet, which completely reflects Scarlett’s beauty,” explains makeup genius Pat McGrath, who created the look using Dolce & Gabbana products.

“To begin, I used the Perfect Finish Creamy Foundation and applied it with the Foundation Brush to create a well-blended complexion. I mixed two foundation shades—Bisque and Beige—to perfectly match her skin tone and achieve a really natural and radiant finish,” says McGrath. To keep the face from looking too matte, she applied Perfect Finish Concealer under the eyes and around the nose. “On the apples of Scarlett’s cheeks, I used a light sweep of the Blush in Rosebud and the Illuminator in Eva for some definition and radiance. For the eyes, I used the Eyeshadow Quad in Femme Fatale, which has slightly shimmery neutral tones. I used the palest shade as the base color, and then built on top of that using the two middle tones. I used the darkest shade in the sockets of Scarlett’s eyes to create subtle depth,” says McGrath, who finished up the eyes with a touch of the Eyeliner in Black and Coffee. “Finally, I played up her full lips using a mix of the new Passion Duo lipsticks in Infatuation and Incognito.”

Last but not least, Scarlett wore Dolce & Gabbana Nail Laquer in Pink on her nails—a sheer yet pretty hue that perfectly complemented her nude lace dress.

Teen Vogue cover girl Lily Collins was an absolute vision at the recent Abduction premiere in Los Angeles. Her beauty look channeled fashion and beauty icon Audrey Hepburn—but with a twist, courtesy of her perfect red lips. While updos like this risk looking a bit uptight, Lily’s famously full brows help soften it up. She also debuted a new set of side-swept bangs, which complement her brows even more! Instead of sporting Audrey’s signature Breakfast at Tiffany’s tiara, Lily opted for a simple, black Jennifer Behr headband, further making the look her own.

To get the full rundown on Lily’s red carpet coif, we spoke with hairstylist Mara Roszak, who used Frederic Fekkai products on the actress. “I applied Fekkai Strong Hold Volume Mousse all over wet hair and then blow-dried it, creating lots of volume,” says Roszak. “Once the hair was dry, I teased the crown for height, pulled the hair back into a French twist, and pinned it in place (I criss-crossed the bobby pins).” To secure the look, Roszak used Fekkai Sheer Hold Hairspray.

What do you think about Lily’s sophisticated, old Hollywood look? Sound off in the comments section!

Who runs the world? Beyonce! With the help of Queen B and choreographer Laurieann Ginson, Eva Chen gets a crash course in how to be fierce.

Readers, there’s really no pithy or charming
way to put this, so I’ll just say it: I am a terrible
dancer. That point was recently reaffirmed at
the launch of Pulse, Beyoncé’s newestscent, where I watched an amazing—yet totally depressing for me—video of the superstar
performing. Oh, if only I could douse myself in Pulse (a
sparkly blend of citrus, vanilla, jasmine, and orchid—B’s
favorite flower) and have 1.7 liquid ounces of her dancing
talent transfer into my beat-challenged body. Or, better
yet, get a lesson from Beyoncé herself.

SHIONA TURINI, Acessories Director

To say I’m an amateur runner is too complimentary. Running was just something I was never able to master. Deciding to run the New York City marathon, therefore, was more than a little out of character for me. I’m always up for a challenge but when I found out the challenge was 26.2 miles, even I was a little doubtful.

Regardless, I decided to buckle down and at least give it a shot.

Instead of sticking with their usual sun-kissed glows, young starlets are pushing the boundaries and trying new, right-off-the-runway makeup trends. Case in point: Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale, both alums of Disney’s High School Musical, opted for dramatic blush to highlight the apples of their cheeks.

Ashley opted for a candy-cute image by swiping on a coat of cotton candy-pink lipstick and gloss, but the rest of her hair and makeup styling suggest California surfer chic. With thick black liner defining her top and bottom lash lines, she effectively brings attention to her eyes, which are framed by her shaped-to-perfection brows. Her twisted and tousled hair complete her relatable look, while her flushed cheeks add a finishing flourish to her sun-kissed skin.

Vanessa, on the other hand, left her wholesome Disney image in the dust by wearing striking makeup inspired by the glamour of Old Hollywood. Her deep plum eyeshadow brings out the honey hue in her brown eyes, while thick black lower lashes make them appear larger. A magenta lip color worked perfectly with her look and melted seamlessly into the darker pink color sweeping her cheekbones.

Selena Gomez sported a stylish back-to-school look at a recent visit to a Philadelphia Kmart, where she promoted the fall collection of her clothing line, Dream Out Loud. The actress, dressed head-to-toe in the label (exclusive at Kmart), wore dark skinny jeans, a jewel-embellished tank layered with a loose sweater, and black boots. (If you ask me, it’s the perfect outfit for cheering on the school football team on a cool autumn night!) Her gorgeous makeup featured subtle smoky eyes and a pretty shade of watermelon pink on the lips; I love how the look is soft enough to wear to class, yet it also shows personality with that bold pop of pink. Makeup artist Stephanie Flor gave me the full beauty breakdown, so you can try it on your first day of school!

Flor recommends starting with a tinted moisturizer instead of a foundation. “Clinique Moisture Surge Tinted Moisturizer SPF 15 will go on evenly with moderate coverage,” she says. “Next, apply a cream-based blush, such as NARS Cream Blush in Penny Lane, to the apples of the cheeks: Smile really big and—using your finger—blend the color into the skin and upward to the highest part of the cheekbones. This sculpts and highlights the cheeks for a beautiful glow.”

To get Selena’s stunning smoky eye, Flor suggests using a black eyeliner, like CoverGirl Liquiline Eyeliner Blast in Black Fire. “Apply it on the inner bottom rim as well as on the top lash line. Then go over it with a soft brown liner—try CoverGirl Liquiline Eyeliner in Brown Blaze—to seal and blend the color, so it’s a softer, more day-friendly look. Coat the top and bottom lashes with two swipes of Lancome Hypnose Doll Lashes Mascara in So Black! to extend, lift, and separate all the lashes for a natural, pretty effect,” she adds.

On the lips, “Use a waterproof creme lip liner first, such as Makeup Forever’s Aqua Creme Lip Liner in Fuschia 16C. Finish with a couple of coats of Revlon Colorburst Lipgloss in Strawberry for a luscious, plumped lip,” she says. Finally, Flor suggests dusting the face and dcollet with a translucent powder, such as Bobbi Brown Sheer Finish Pressed Powder in Warm Natural, to set the makeup and avoid any unwanted mess-ups.

What do you think of Selena’s beauty look? Would you wear it to school? Sound off below in the comments section!
