Visit the beautiful land of Croatia and find yourself surrounded by the greatest travel pleasures. This Episcopal complex has a basilica, a baptistery, a sacristry, and also a bell tower which is near the archbishop’s place and is the best example of architecture of the Byzantine era in this region of the Mediterranean.

This is a structure that has retained most of its original shape but the natural calamities and many accidents have altered the structure a great deal. This is the third church to have been built in the same place and has concealed many past structures. For example the great floor mosaic of the earlier basilica belonging to the 5th century is visible here. Today this has been recognized as a World Heritage Site.

The first basilica was dedicated to Saint Maurus and is as old as belonging to the 4th century. The floor mosaic belonged to a large Roman house and is still protected in the garden of the church. This oratorium then became a church and had a nave and an aisle. There is the fish which is the symbol of Christ and is found on the floor and belongs to an ancient period. There are coins that portray images of Emperor Valens. These have been found in the same spot where the original church used to exist.

The Euphrasian Basilica has been built in memory of the Virgin Mary and is a 6th century construction and was built during the time of the Bishop Euphrasius. It was constructed on the older basilica and today is extremely run down and dilapidated. There were lot of parts of the earlier church that were used to construct the present structure besides of course the marble blocks that were brought from the Marmara coast. The Byzantian masters executed the wall mosaics and the local experts took care of the floor mosaics. The entire construction took around ten years. There is a depiction of Euphrasius who is seen holding the church in his arms and this is one of the most fascinating mosaics which lies next to St. Maurus.

After the earthquake of 1440, the southern portion of the central nave of this magnificent structure was restored. The destroyed windows were replaced with the Gothic style windows.

The basilica has a sixth century octagonal baptistery which was constructed in the 5th century. There is also a 16th century bell tower and an atrium which is colonnaded. This was constructed after the basilica and has a portico on all sides. This has the best collection of monuments made of stone. There is the Episcopal sixth century construction or the Bishop’s Palace which has very little of it left to be seen. But the remains look magnificent and tell a tale of its great past.

Then there is a chapel which is shaped like a trefoil and this is a construction dating back to the 17th and the 19th centuries.

There are 18 colonnades which are built in the Greek style and these separate the two aisles. These marble colonnades are made of Byzantine capitals and the lovely decorations depicting most of the animals evoke a great sight. The Saint Euphrasius emblem is found on all the colonnades. The stucco work that is reflected in the capitals are magnificently fascinating and tourists like to go round this place and experience these wonderful sights.

The Euphrasian Basilica does not have a wall surrounding this building as most of the sacred buildings had in those days, instead the length and the breadth have been built in a polygonal shape on the exterior while the two aisles end in an apse which is surrounded by a wall.

A visit to this facinating and charismatic place will surely create an unforgettable image in your memory and will remain with you for lifelong.

Situated in the lovely surroundings of Croatia, the Diocletian’s Palace is a great structure in Croatian attractions. Constructed sometime in the 4th century AD by Diocletian who was the Roman Emperor, this is a massive palace lying on the southern side of a short peninsula from the coast of Dalmatian a little away from the capital of the Roman province of Dalmatia. With the lovely slopes that naturally form the terrain here, the entire landscape consists of ridges made up of limestone and karst and these run from east to west. The marl in the clefts make up most of the landscape.

Located in Split this is one of the best travel attractions of Croatia and is also a World UNESCO Heritage Site. This is an absolutely fascinating zone and this is like a city within a city. It was the dream of Emperor Diocletian and he built this great monumental structure.

The palace measures around 215 m from east to west and has walls as high as 26 m. The construction is strictly on the medieval classical lines and has a mix of all styles. Today this is a residential cum commercial complex and goes back to the 7th century. The residents living nearby ran away to the walled palace to escape the barbarians who invaded this place.

The entire palace has been symmetrically constructed and has two streets intersecting each other. The palace looks partly a villa and partly a fortified camp. It is very famous for its varied forms like the rectangular Temple of Jupiter and the mausoleum with the octagonal dome, The Cathedral of St. Domnius, the circular temples to Cybele and Venus. There are a lot of foreign influences in the construction, and these are seen in the Egyptian styled sphinxes that are found outside the Temple of Jupiter.

Peristil or Peristyle is a greatly decorated entrance court and measures around 35X13m and is around a little below the streets that surround the place. Granite columns line the longer sides and there are two piers and columns with decorative arches. The stone freize looks elegant and majestic here. There is a small Renaissance church of the 6th century here and also many buildings of the medieval era fitting into the ancient columns. These Romanesque columns looks elegant in the Grisogono Cipci Palace.

The Protiron is an entrance in the imperial quarters. This surrounds the Peristyle on the southern side. There are four columns which have a triangular gable supporting them. There is a lovely arch here and there are two chapels on each side of the Protiron.

There are basement halls and there are stairs that lead up to this place. There is a lot of grandeur here and tourists get completely enthralled by the absolute beauty of the jewelry and crafts found here.

The gothic and the baroque buildings are the main feature of this Diocletian Palace and the place is a very fascinating attraction for all the tourists who come here to this part of the world. All those you want to fall in love with each other and the surroundings can visit this place and enjoy the serenity and charm of this beautiful land in Croatia.

With ideal travel pleasures and greatly cherishable experiences, the Diocletian’s Palace is certainly a place to visit in this part of the world. Come here and enjoy the grandeur and majestic touch that this place exudes. Fascinatingly beautiful, this ancient structure is a well visited spot in Croatia and is a favourite of every history lover.

Croatia is a place that provides maximum travel pleasures and fascinating sight seeing attractions. While here in this land of mystique the Plitvice Lakes National Park is surely an amazing place to be in and an interesting locale to visit.

This is the oldest national park here in the southeastern part of Europe and has all the reasons to attract tourists from far and wide. Existing since the year 1949, this is located in the mountainous area in Central Croatia and is on the Herzegovania Bosnia border. There is a very important road that crosses the park and this joins the north and the south portions of this region. So this is the road that connects the Mediterranean region with the Croatian inland.

Spanning over an area of around 296 square kilometers, this is a region that became a UNESCO World Heritage site and is amongst the first natural regions across the world. Every year this park has more than 900,000 visitors. There are strict rules and regulations for the park and the tourists have to adhere to these rules.

Very famous across the world for its cascading lakes, the park has around 16 lakes that flow from the surface. The lakes have been formed as a result of the confluence of many rivers and the karst subterranean rivers. All the lakes are interconnected and they follow a particular water flow. Travertine dams separate these lakes and the travertine is a result of the deposit of bacteria, algae and moss over a period of time. The bacteria and the plants accumulate one on top of the other and form great barriers which have a growth of around 1 cm per year. The Korana River is formed as a result of the water that has remained in the lowest lake.

With colours that range from green to azure and from blue to gray the changing colours depend on the mineral quantity and the organisms that are present in the water. The angle of sunlight rays is also important in rendering the lake colourful. The national park area is home to such beautiful sights and many kinds of endemic species. It is said that this lake has got species that have been existing here even before man existed. This is something rare in the Plitvice lakes National Park and is special to this place.

There is a rich biodiversity here and the flora and fauna here is something to be seen to be believed. The entire region of Plitvice Lakes is thus a greatly significant area of Croatia. The entire lakes are far away from the pollution of the city and the tourists come here and get enthralled and fascinated with the overall ambience.

With dense forests and interesting varieties of flora, the spruce, beech, fir are seen here. The entire vegetation is full of Mediterranean and Alpine kind of vegetation and has a wide range of varieties to offer. The microclimates and the variety of soil that is found here due to the varying altitudes is what brings about this kind of vegetation. The entire zone is thus a hub of greenery and is a paradise for all nature lovers. All the tourists who come here love to enjoy the natural ambience here and experience the pleasures of being in a perfect paradise in this part of the world.

The Plitvice Lakes National Park is also home to many kinds of plants. Enjoy the feeling of this green blanket in this part of Croatia.

When you are in Croatia enjoy the land of excitement, pleasure and historical interests. Located on the northern Adriatic Sea, this is a place where the tourist pleasures are greatly highlighted by simple sights and beautiful attractions.

An earlier settlement of the Illyrian tribes this is a place built on an island that lies close to the coast. Initially it was connected to the mainland and today it is a great tourist spot.

While here you can go around the city and visit some of the best tourist locales.

Visit the tower of St. Euphemia and see this highest point in the city of Rovinj. From here you can enjoy the beautiful sights of the place and just bask in the travel pleasure of the archipelago of Rovinj. Today the tower is an exact copy of the bell tower of the St. Mark’s Basilica which lies in Venice. There is a bronze statue of Saint Euphemia which stands on the spire.

Korcula is a walled town in the Croatian region and lies on the island of Korcula. With some of the best beaches, the Korcula town is one of the most romantic Croatian destinations and today is a great travel destination. Korcula Island with a lot of beautiful scenery gives the best excursion experience to all the tourists who go to Mijet on an excursion. All the beach buffs can therefore come here and take a ferry to Orebic and go along the Peljeski Channel. Then enjoy the pristine surroundings of the sandy beach and the wide expanse of land here. Just explore the entire area and come upon island of Badija and get enthralled by the ambience and the Franciscan monastery here.

There are Korcula island tours which help you to come from Dubrovnik or you could yourself independently go to Korcula. This is a great southern Dalmatian zone and has around 47 km of coast length and is around 8 km wide. There is a great verdant expanse and the lovely indented coves contribute to the place looking beautiful. The interior portion of this town and island is wonderful with beautifully cultivated vineyards and lush green surroundings. The villages are beautiful and peaceful here and the olive groves found here and there are especially eye catching.

Korcula town is the prized possession of Korcula Island and is a great place to go to because of its intricate Venetian kind of architecture. The town lying on a narrow peninsula is a great place to go to as it showcases some of the customs and traditions here. The MOreska Sword Dance is one such feat you can see while you are on a trip to Korcula. There are many tourists who come here on a day trip from the Badija Island.

Lumbarda is a village near Korcula. There are lovely sandy beaches and beautiful towns here. The local seamen prefer the Racisce which is another lovely village here. The region of Pupnat has a beautiful bay and a church in Blato. Then you have the main port entry at Vela Luka. This is also used as a base for exploring the entire island. There are scuba diving facilities here sometimes which take you on an excursion to the nearby region of Te Vega off Susac.

There are many inns and guesthouses on the Korcula Island so the travel stay wouldn’t be uncomfortable.

History has it that Korcula was first in possession of the Greeks, then it went to Roman hands sometime in the first century. The Slavs settled here and Korcula came under the Ragusa rule. KOrcula developed a lot under the Venetians who built the Korcula town in the 15th century. The climate was windy here so they took advantage of this and built the west streets totally opening the city to the maestral winds of the west. The east streets were built in a curved way to protect the city from the chilly cold north easterly bura winds.

To reach Korcula there are car ferries, shuttle, passenger ferry, bus etc.

The sightseeing here includes admiring the beautiful architecture and buildings like the large Governor’s Tower and the Small Governor’s Tower. Visit Marco Polo’s house which is another attraction here. Then there is the St. Mark’s Cathedral which looks resplendent in its Gothic-Renaissance construction. The town museum is another interesting place with its stone carving display and the icons found at the Icon Museum.

A visit to this place is sure to add colour and vibrancy to the chronology of your vacation experience.

Come to the land of Albania and enjoy the beauty of the natural surroundings here. Amongst the many locales, Albanian beaches are certainly a place to reckon with. The Adriatic Sea dominating the borders of Albania, the beaches here have the advantage of being less crowded and less touched by the hordes of tourists travelling across the globe. Post the month of August, the beaches of Albania certainly see a lot of tourists pouring in these days as these pristine areas are becoming top priority of late.

Visit the Mali Robit beach in Albania and enjoy the virgin ambience of this wondrous paradise. With a plethora of greenery and the best sandy beach, this place is quite an attraction as it is also near the Tirana city. Some low rise buildings lie around the beach but the lovely cover of pine forests enhances the ambience. This is the place where tourists head after the crowd reduces as it is relatively calm and serene at such times.

Then you have the Shengjin which is again a little away from Tirana which lies in the region of Kosovo. This beach town is one of the larger ports in Albania. The beach can be accessed easily these days as a new road has been constructed recently. There are ferry services from Italy which has encouraged the place as a great tourist hub. Wetlands, wildlife and the pine trees are the main vegetation and landscape here and the tourist is taken to a different world once he is here.

Another beautiful sandy beach of Albania is the Vlora beach which lies in the place where the Adriatic seas meet. This lovely tourist locale is gradually growing and the main reason for this is the presence of the port here. Besides the place also has a thermal power plant. Locals are very concerned about the place getting encroached by development of buildings and other residences but presently the beach is famous as a swimming zone. While swimming you can enjoy the beauty of the surroundings and the majestic views of the entire area.

If you want to enjoy the beauty of a shale and pebble beach then visit Saranda which lies in southern Albania. Lying just opposite the Greek island of Corfu, the place is more famous for its crystal clear waters. The tourist industry is agog with this place of late as it has suddenly been catapulted into a preferred destination by many holiday makers. Coming as a lesser prized beautiful holiday, many people prefer coming here than going for the extravagant Greek or Italy tours. Relatively safe beaches in Saranda and a clean and secure atmosphere have put it on the top of tourist priorities.

Ksamil is a lovely beach in Albania with beautiful sands and it resembles a beach in the Caribbean. Very unlike beach in the eastern part of Europe this is a great locale for all those who want to enjoy a perfect holiday spot. Very close to the island of Corfu, this beach is also near Burtinti, the World Heritage Site recognized by UNESCO.

Beaches are a very easy way of unwinding in Albania. With amazing sights and beautiful surroundings, this is certainly a must do in your agenda in this land.

Once you are in the land of Albania, obviously you know you have treated yourself to the best possible travel experience you would have had in this part of the world. With a plethora of villages, and interesting sights, Albanian adventure includes visiting some of the abandoned zones here. Take for example the region of Vau Dejes.

This is one locale where you wouldn’t mind coming if you are in Albania. Come here and visit the abandoned village of Dush. The interesting hike to this place is a key attraction in Albanian adventure tours. You would cross the communist food distribution centers. There is an old school on the way which is quite intriguing.

This municipality in the district of Shkoder and in the county of the Shkoder region lies in the northwestern part of Albania. It is located on the area of Zadrima. The rivers Gjadri and Drin cross over here. The Adriatic Sea is around 41km away from this place. There are settlements here which date back to sometime in the 15th century and are proof of this place having been inhabited for long. Albania thus has a history dating centuries back and offers a good adventure experience to tourists coming here. The region of Vau Dejes was reconstructed for inhabitation during the time the Vau Dejes hydroelectric dam was constructed in the years 1971 to 1973. When the dam construction got over, the families who were displaced due to the recurrent floods around this area got their homes back and they started living here. There are around 8 villages here and there is a single city centre. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Sape has Vau Dejes as its seat.

So while you are on the hike, you would surely love to enjoy the ambience of this area with such a vivid historical and ancient background. You can also interact with the villagers here and also visit the church in Vau Dejes.

The road that connects Kosovo to Shkodra is the place where Vau Dejes is located. With the richness of greenery here, the woodland here is the major attraction for many nature lovers. There is a gorge here that lies between the hills of Boka and Lac. Vau Dejes is located near this exit point to the gorge thus lending the perfect surroundings for a good trek trail. You also have the Glina brook that flows here and divides Vau Dejes into two parts. The Glina Brook flows downwards and later meets the River Gjader. Thus the area of Vau Dejes is drained by innumerable water bodies and makes the adventure experience in this part of Albania a great pleasure. The dry vegetation here adds to the feeling. The vegetation is thus as the geological composition of the terrain here is not permissive of any other kind of vegetation.

As you walk up, you can also see the rugged rocks of karst magmatic rocks and also the flysch rocks. These are very similar to those rocks that are found in the region of Mirdita.

With its unique and interesting surroundings and a special kind of place to visit, Albania is not short of beauty here in the region of Vau Dejes. Do visit it as part of your adventure travel in Albania.
