The documentary addresses discrimination against GLBT people in rural areas, particularly Oil City. The screening was followed by panelists from a variety of backgrounds.]]></description>

Over 100 people attended and all expressed real pleasure with the location at Bellinger Hall on the grounds of the Chautauqua Institution. The workshops were educational and interesting, the film &ldquo;Out in the Silence&rdquo; was inspiring and the Buffalo Gay Men&rsquo;s Chorus was sensation ... and that&rsquo;s just a few of the highlights of the weekend! The 2010 Conference will be on October 2.]]></description>

The local event was held on the steps of the Erie County Courthouse. 140 W 6th St, Erie PA. This was part of a nationwide reaction to three couples who had been targeted by security and/or law enforcement personnel for simply kissing in public. The event was suggested by David Mailloux and David Badash.]]></description>

Many community-based groups had info booths. There was a GLBT booth staffed by Erie Gay News and LBT Women of Erie. The LBT Women of Erie also had a great time socializing in the field. The GLBT booth was between the political progressive booth staffed by Erie Peace Initiative and Health Care for all, and also the United NeoPagan Council of Lake Erie booth. We all had a wonderful time enjoying the great music and wonderful company!]]></description>

The bear community has been growing ever since it began in the 1980s and Erie, PA has helped create a place for men that appreciate themselves and each other.]]></description>

Vertigo is on the corner of Franklin St and E Jefferson St, bottom entrance. Vertigo is BYOB, $5 cover, 18 and over. We will have drink mixes for sale, soda, juice, tonic, chips, candy bars. Cups and ice will be provided and there is a fridge to keep your beer cold. We&rsquo;ll be having great dance music, and a comfortable place to hang out. We have a pool table and megatouch, so bring your quarters. Vertigo is every week now, alternating Fridays and Saturdays. We had about 60 people or so attend. In terms of candidates for Federal office, we had Jamie Citron, who is the Deputy LGBT Outreach coordinator for the Obama/Biden campaign, all three candidates for US Congress PA-3 - Kathy Dahlkemper (D), a representative for Phil English (R-Incumbent) and Steve Porter (I). For Pennsylvania state candidates, we had Cindy Purvis (D) for PA State Senate District 49, Jason Owen (R ) for PA State House District 3, and Rick Mitchell (D) for PA State House District 4. All of the PA state candidates who attended are the non-incumbents.]]></description>

This year was host to a record 230 attendees, almost double last year&rsquo;s run! Participants enjoyed a great weekend of activities from parties, visits to regional wineries, trips to gambling at Presque Isle Downs and Casino and also a private event at Splash Lagoon on Friday night. This year, we raised over $1,000 for the Shriners Hospital here in Erie. The money donated will be provided for the children at Shriners to create their very own Build-A-Bear animal from the company&rsquo;s website. Then, staff members from the hospital will visit the Millcreek Mall store to have the stuffed animal made as requested.]]></description>

Over the years, Trance was a great supporter of the community, hosting benefits for <a href="http://www.eriegaynews.com/news/article.php?recordid=200510katrina.html">Hurricane Katrina</a>, PFLAG, the Erie Arts Museum, Erie Gay Pride, Inc. and other causes. They were also a contributor to the annual Pride Picnic and other events in the GLBT community. The public hearing was conducted by the House State Government Committee chaired by Representative Babette Josephs (D-Philadelphia). </p><p>Several Pennsylvania State Representatives came to Erie to learn more about PA House Bill 1400. Although there are 14 municipalities in Pennsylvania (including Erie County, since 2002) that include these legal protections, there is no state or federal law which offers similar protections. The companion bill to HB 1400 in the PA Senate is SB 761. </p>]]></description>

Several of the city&rsquo;s most talented Drag Queens got to ride in style in a limousine generously donated by a local funeral home. There was also a Pride float using a truck and trailer donated by another very generous supporter. </p>]]></description>

Sponsored by Erie Gay Pride, Inc., the Casino Night raised $915 which will be used to support this year&#39;s Erie Gay Pride March/Rally scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 25. </p><p>At the conclusion of the games, the participants were about to used their &quot;play money&quot; winnings to bid on the great auction prizes donated by area merchants and organizations including: Gary&#39;s Flowers, Eddie Bauers, Surf and Turf Marine, Starbuck&#39;s (Millcreek Mall), Tinseltown, Papa Joe&#39;s West, McHenry &amp; Company, Bon Ton, Uncle Pete&#39;s Kitchen, Roadhouse Theatre, Jerome Arnold LMT, 10th Street Cafe and Market, Erie Sisters, Jewelry by Stephany, The Ultimate Cut, Mohr and More, Blue Heron Inn, WQLN, Mastercuts, Journey&#39;s, Celebrate Erie and Erie Art Museum. </p><p>This year&#39;s Erie Pride March/Rally will feature a variety of speakers, vendors and activities. The event organizers had prepared for ticket sales of about 150, and well over 150 people attended the event. The Ashtagayla celebration provided games, picnic food, DJ music, and a good-natured crowd in a festival-like atmosphere. ]]></description>

The episode shows Buster visiting a friend in Vermont during maple syrup time. The friend has two moms.   PBS pulled the episode after newly-appointed Secretary of Education Margaret Spellings denounced the &quot;Sugartime!&quot; episode and demanded that if PBS aired it, she would demand a refund of the portion that the Department of Education had funded. Boston PBS affiliate WGBH, which had produced the episode, offered to distribute it to affiliates that chose not to ban it. After viewing the episode, WQLN decided they would air &quot;Sugartime!&quot; ]]></description>

About 100 met on the steps of the Erie County Courthouse for the Family Portrait. The first ever Family Portrait was taken at that location in October 1995. All 3 local TV news  stations had coverage of the March and Rally. The Erie Times News also had a front page story the next day about the Rally. Among the chants that marchers used while walking up State Street were: &ldquo;What do we want? Equal Rights! When do we want them? Right now!&rdquo;, as well as other chants opposing George W. Bush being elected as President.  When the March passed by Kerry/Edwards Headquarters at 10th and State, staff stepped out to greet the marchers.]]></description>
