This post was prompted by a comment from Maureen O Halloran on Facebook, she wrote;

“Eoin I think it might be a good idea to maybe give a bit of advice to people who have websites that are adding too many keywords to the home section, the amount of people who think they have to add all the top words is amazing, how about it,?“

Maureen has noticed something that I have seen for so many times, that I am now sure that many web designers in Ireland, that say they can also do Search Engine Optimisation (SEO), actually think that stuffing every keyword that you can into your homepage is good practice.

By this I mean putting 5, 10, 20, even 30 keywords into the Meta Tags (in the Meta Tags of the web page HTML) and / or in the actual text on the homepage.

Doing that is completely useless.

Even if you are lucky enough to get listed in Google for the words you wanted, (because Google could not find anything better), as soon as your competitors decide to use proper SEO, they will get listed higher than you.

Your home page should built to try to get listed for your main keywords, with a maximum of three keywords. Which means that the keywords in the text and the Meta tags should only be relevant to those three keywords.

For example, if your business was Landscaping, from my Keyword Research, your homepage keywords might be, Landscaping, Garden Landscaping, Landscape Design.

Let the rest of your web pages be about all the other keywords that you need to get ranked in the search Engines for.

If your web site has this problem or you want to get your web site listed in Google for words that will actually get you more business, why not contact me …
before one of your competitors decides to.

Local Internet Marketing For Small Business is something that was difficult to do in the past, but not anymore. Now Small Business Owners whose customers or clients are normally local people, can use Internet Marketing to increase profits.

I’ve recently opened Local Internet Marketing, (Local Internet Marketing), as my main website, Internet Marketing Clinic .ie was primarily a Clinic, to fix Internet Marketing problems.

It’s been nearly 8 months since my last blog post, and I’ve been asked by some readers if I’m still alive.

Basically, I hadn’t the time to spend writing on my Blog, Facebook and Twitter.
I had to devote all my time to my clients.

Now that I’m not as busy, I see the need for this blog post on Social Networking and Priorities.

Yes, Social Networking is a fantastic business and personal tool … but if you are in business, you can’t take time that should be used for a client and use it to update your Blog, Facebook or Twitter.

“But“, I hear you say, “what about getting new clients?”

Many people fail to notice that keeping existing clients and getting more business from existing clients is far easier than getting a new client.

So it’s all down to Priorities.

Your existing clients should be your Number One priority, next would be getting new clients, which would include Social Networking.

When I realised that I hadn’t the time to do work to get new clients, I got a little anxious, until I realised that even if I didn’t …
I wouldn’t have the time to work with them.

So I relaxed, stopped doing anything that was not part of an existing project and finished projects on time.

So if you find that you haven’t the time to blog or tweet, don’t panic, review your time management and let reality be your gauge.

What do you think?

comment below.

A Google Adwords Management, is basically a way to Outsource the management of your Google Adwords.

You pay a Google Adwords expert, a fee every month, that you agree in advance, to manage your Google Adwords, to get a better Return On Investment.

This is perfectly legitimate and a great way to maximise your return from Google Adwords….

However … more and more companies are appearing, that are using the lack of knowledge about Google Adwords, to scam Business People.

Here is how the scam works

The “management company” contacts a business owner and tell them that for “x” amount per month, the “management company” will get the business owner’s website listed on the number 1 spot in Google, for “x” amount of keywords, that they have identified for them.

This looks fantastic to someone that does not understand the Internet, or how Google Adwords works, so they are happy pay the money.

In a week or so, the business owner gets a list of the keywords, checks them in Google and is delighted to see that they are Number 1 in Google … it might be on the right hand side but it’s still fantastic!??

The (sucker) Punch Line

What the business owner does not know, is that the “management company” did research on their Market before they contacted them, and found key words with very little or no traffic (people using those key words to search in Google), which means that very few people will actually see the adverts.

So there will be very few clicks on the Google Adwords adverts and therefore very few visitors to your website.

With Google Adwords, advertisers only pay for the “clicks”, so it will cost the “management company” very little.

For example, I’ve just finished a report for a client, showing them the the €400 they were paying per month to a company using this same scam, would have cost them a maximum of €130 per month, based on the number of clicks, if they had their own Google account.

That’s at least €3,240 a year profit to the “management company”, for doing nothing.

The Correct Way

If you have a someone managing your Google Adwords account, the correct way to do it is this.

1) You open a Google Adwords Account with Google, in your name of business name/company name.

2) You send whoever is managing your Google Adwords account, your “Customer ID” number.
(it’s on the top right of screen after you log in to Adwords.)

3) They send you a request, which is sent within your Google Adwords Account, to give them access to your account, through their “Client Center”.
You will see it when you log in to your Google Adwords Account.

4) You pay all fees for the “clicks” on your adverts, directly to Google.

5) You pay the people managing your Google Adwords account their agreed fee.

6) You can log In to your Google Adwords Account, 24/7 to check on progress.

7) The whoever is managing your Google Adwords account, should be adjusting bids, writing unique adverts, split testing, checking for extra keywords and working to improve your Google Adwords Quality Score.

If someone is managing your Google Adwords account and didn’t do this, you could be getting scammed.

Eoin

As the first step in my Internet Business Builder project, I just published my First eBook, “Google Adwords Demystified – what they are & why you should use them” …. Google Adwords Demystified for short.
It’s an Adwords basics eBook, suitable for anyone that wants to get to grips with what Google Adwords are and why you should use them.
You can get the eBook from this page.

This eBook is also pre-launching a new website, which will be my Internet Business Builder web site. You will see the URL for the site in the footer of the eBook pages.

There is far too much conflicting and downright wrong information about what you need to do, to make the Internet side of your business successful. My Internet Business Builder Project aims to help small business owners learn what they need to know to build the Internet side of their business the right way.

This is all to come in October, so keep a eye on my Blog, or sign-up for updates.

Also, I’d appreciate it if you could use the “Please Share This Blog Post ” icons below to share this blog post of Twitter, Facebook etc., or maybe just e-Mail this pages URL to a friend.

Thanks
