In addition to being a historic track, The Lady in Black also has many other unique features that make the race thrilling for fans and drivers, including the risk of the Darlington Stripe. Let us fill you in with a little raceway history before you tune in to Saturday's race.

Did you know Darlington Raceway's roots date back to 1949? What would become Darlington Raceway started as an old cotton field in rural Darlington, South Carolina. At the time NASCAR was still in its infancy, so when local businessman Harold Brasington sought to turn the land into a race track, many locals thought he was insane. Though he had little support, Brasington set out in the fall of 1949 to turn the old cotton field into a 1 ¼ mile raceway. Brasington intended for the track to be a true oval, but NASCAR fans know that is not how the raceway turned out. During construction, the track’s design had to be modified per the landowner's request. Turns 3 and 4 were narrowed because landowner Sherman Ramsey didn’t want his nearby minnow pond to be disturbed. After about a year of construction the track was completed and fans overflowed the stands for the first race on Labor Day, 1950.

Because of Ramsey's request, Darlington has become famous for its unique egg-shaped design and has become one of the most respected grounds in NASCAR history. Strangely, getting a stripe from the wall is how a driver earns his respect for the track, and is deemed the Darlington Stripe. At most tracks, the fastest line is against the white line but at Darlington it's the opposite, which is where the Darlington Stripe comes in. In order to get a fast lap that could put them at the front of the pack, drivers take the upper line, putting them at risk of scraping up the right door of their car. The reward is what makes the risk worth it, which is why the Darlington Stripe is the only time a driver doesn’t mind seeing damage to their car.

Another aspect of the Darlington Raceway NASCAR fans will enjoy is the Darlington Raceway Stock Car Museum. From old cars to contemporary cars, the museum's exhibits celebrate the track's rich, 60+ year history. Racing fans can even see Richard Petty's 1967 Plymouth, a car that won him 10 races that year as well as Darrell Waltrip's 1991 Chevy Lumina, the car that rolled eight times in the Pepsi 400 which was one of the most fearsome crashes in stock car history. Visitors can also check out the National Motorsports Press Association Hall of Fame, where numerous photos, memorabilia and interactive exhibits showcase NASCAR and its personalities.

Although it may be one of the oldest tracks in NASCAR, updates and renovations to the facility make races at Darlington ones that both fans and drivers love to attend. While the walls of Darlington Raceway are painted a clean, crisp white now, they sure won’t be white after Saturday's race! We're wishing Clint Bowyer the best of luck as they take on the Lady in Black this weekend!

5 Things You May Not Know About Baseball

Bill Veeck is quoted as saying “There are only two seasons - winter and Baseball”. As the 2013 Major League Baseball season kicks off, and our latest commercial featuring former baseball and football legend Bo Jackson begins airing, the 5-hour ENERGY® team is ready to play ball! In 1982, Youngblood played as a centerfielder for the New York Mets. In a game against the Cubs, he hit a two-run single and later in the same game he was replaced by another center fielder and traded to the Montreal Expos. Youngblood was rushed to Philadelphia to be with his new team and was thrown into the game where he hit a single, making him the first player to have a hit on the same day for two different teams.

Baylor’s Back to Back to Back World Series

Currently Don Baylor is a hitting coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, but during his baseball career he had quite the run! From his MVP title in 1979 to winning three Silver Slugger awards, Baylor was an outstanding player, but the thing you might not know is that he played in the World Series three consecutive times in his career…for three different teams! Baylor’s World Series run started in 1986 with the Boston Red Sox, continued in 1987 with the Minnesota Twins and finished in 1988 with the Oakland Athletics. Unfortunately, Baylor’s only World Series win was during his time with the Twins in 1987.

Twins Manage Two Triple Plays

In a game against the Red Sox in 1990, the Minnesota Twins became the first team in Major League Baseball history to turn two triple plays in the same game. The first triple play was in the fourth inning and the second was in the eighth, and both played out in a similar fashion. Each started with a sharp hit to third baseman Gary Gaetti and went 5-4-3. Oddly enough, even with the two triple plays, the Twins still ended up losing the game.

Piersall Runs the Bases Backwards

Center fielder Jimmy Piersall was a bit of a character and performed several stunts during baseball games, including climbing a grandstand roof to heckle an umpire and going up to bat wearing a Beatles wig. While people may remember Piersall for his wacky approach to the game, one of his biggest stunts happened when he played for the New York Mets. In the fifth inning of a game against the Phillies, Piersall hit his 100th career home run and ran the bases facing backwards. While other people laughted , Mets manager Casey Stengel wasn’t amused and Piersall was given a pink slip.

Opening Day Forfeit

On opening day in 1907, the New York Giants played the Philadelphia Phillies at home after an unusual and massive April snowstorm. Members of the grounds crew were called early in the morning to clear the field of snow so the game wouldn’t have to be postponed. The field was cleared and diehard baseball fans showed up to opening day. Towards the end of the game, as the Giants continued to fall behind, things started to go downhill as fans began to throw snowballs at each other and on to the field. Security was called to try and stop the quickly escalating snowball fight, but they could not. Things got so out of control that the umpire ordered a forfeit, with Philadelphia’s 3-0 lead as the final score, making the game the only opening day forfeit in baseball history.

Did your favorite baseball story make our list? Everything is bigger in Texas, right? This holds true to the Texas Motor Speedway! If you've never been to TMS, it can be hard to appreciate the massive size of the superspeedway. Did you know it's one of the largest sports facilities in the U.S.? It's a good thing, too, because thousands of die-hard NASCAR fans from all across the country head to the Lone Star State to watch all of the race day excitement!

A celebrity-filled ground breaking took place in April 1995, where Bobby Labonte, Terry Labonte and Jeff Gordon all assisted Speedway Motorsports CEO Bruton Smith with construction in Fort Worth, Texas. Upon completion, TMS was already one of the nation's largest sports facilities but additions were soon made to further enrich racing fans' visit to the speedway. The Speedway Club offers special benefits to race enthusiasts and was added in a nine-story building above Turn 1. The Lone Star Tower condominiums were added as a new feature to TMS, located outside of Turn 2. Each condo has a floor to ceiling glass wall that faces the speedway and offers spectacular panoramic views.

For a short while during the track's construction, the Texas Motor Speedway's name was switched to Texas International Raceway. The new name was short-lived since a small dirt raceway in Alvin, Texas had the same name and filed suit to use the name. No matter what the track’s name was, several NASCAR drivers have had good luck at the speedway. Jeff Burton and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. both earned their first Cup win at TMS and Burton also holds the track record for the most laps completed, with 6697. Have you ever given any thought as to where NASCAR’s dual lap counters originated? You can thank Texas Motor Speedway for that! TMS was the first speedway to display race laps by counting down and counting up, indicated by different colored lights that show how many laps are left in the race and how many have been completed.

The track's long straightaways and moderate banking make for high speeds and loads of excitement. The Texas Motor Speedway is one of the fastest non-restrictor plate tracks in NASCAR, with qualifying speeds of 196 mph. The 1.5 mile track has become a fan favorite and is even deemed The Great American Speedway! Not only is TMS home to two NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races each year, but it also hosts the Nationwide and Camping World Truck Series, as well as the Izod Indycar Series. Besides the 1.5 mile oval, TMS also houses four infield course variations, a 1/5 mile Lil' Texas Motor Speedway and a .4 mile oval Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track.

It doesn't matter if you’re watching the race from the bleachers or from your couch; you can still cheer loud and show some love for Texas Motor Speedway. Saturday’s race is a night race so you’ll get to see TMS lit up, with enough lighting to illuminate 11 NFL stadiums. That’s a lot of light, but there’s only one driver we want to see in the spot light…our very own Clint Bowyer! Good luck Clint!

Reuse, Recycle, Repeat Contest Encourages you to Go Green!

Earth Day is just around the corner, so we thought we’d celebrate with a new contest that rewards our fans for being environmentally friendly. The Reuse, Recycle, Repeat contest invites you to share creative, yet practical ways to reuse empty 5-hour ENERGY® bottles. The contest launches today and ends on April 22, when three lucky winners will be selected to receive a supply of 5-hour ENERGY® and an eco-friendly tumbler!

We care about the environment, which is why this contest asks you to share different ways you reuse empty 5-hour ENERGY® bottles. Whether you’re keeping your arts and crafts supplies organized or you’re storing liquids in your carry-on luggage, the possibilities of how 5-hour ENERGY® bottles can be repurposed are endless! We want to inspire you to help protect the environment not only for Earth Day, but year-round by coming up with everyday ways to reuse product waste.

If you’re struggling to come up with repurposing ideas, we urge you to simply recycle your empty bottles. According to Green Waste, less than one percent of all plastic products are recycled in the United States. In addition, Americans throw away roughly 25,000,000 plastic beverage bottles every hour. Instead of adding to that statistic, make the decision to go green and recycle. Remember, there is only one Earth so please treat it right!

Looking for other ways to sustain and improve the environment? Here are some simple ways you can make your lifestyle a bit greener:

• Switch to reusable shopping bags – This is a one-time investment (usually around $1.00 per bag) that will help you cut back on a ton of waste every year.

• Unplug appliances not in use- Did you know that appliances use energy even when they aren’t plugged in? Save yourself some money and help out the environment by unplugging!

• Find an alternative to driving – Whether it’s walking, biking or taking the bus, try out other means of transportation besides driving to reduce your carbon footprint.

• Switch to reusable cups and bottles – Once you buy a reusable water bottle, you’re eliminating waste and you’ll never have to buy water again! The same goes for reusable coffee cups.

• The easiest thing to do is simply turn off lights when you leave the room. Kids can easily get in on the action, and it’s an environmental value that will last a lifetime.

In order to enter the contest, visit our Website or Facebook page to fill out the contest entry form. Though the Pink Lemonade was only available as a limited release, the response was amazing! Our goal for Pink Lemonade 5-hour ENERGY® was to bring awareness to those who were diagnosed with, are fighting or have been affected by breast cancer during the month of October. This special edition of 5-hour ENERGY® not only helped us bring awareness to the cause, but it also gave us a chance to go one step beyond by donating a portion of our sales to the AVON Breast Cancer Foundation.

Because of the great support from our fans and the love of the pink lemonade flavor, we were very pleased to have donated $387,531.20 to the AVON Breast Cancer Foundation! Shortly after we discontinued the Pink Lemonade 5-hour ENERGY® flavor, the amount of fan feedback was astonishing! People were sad that the flavor had been discontinued and were begging for us to bring it back as one of our flavor choices. Since we love our fans and want to keep them happy, we were quick to take all the feedback into consideration and put Pink Lemonade 5-hour ENERGY® back into production and on to store shelves, but permanently this time!

Now with Pink Lemonade on our flavor roster, we are up to 9 5-hour ENERGY® shot flavors for our customers to choose from. With the Pink Lemonade flavor quickly rising to the top spot for fan favorite flavors, we are excited to announce its permanent stay and to see the fan feedback rolling in. So next time you feel that 2:30 feeling coming on, grab a Pink Lemonade 5-hour ENERGY® shot to help you get through the rest of your day!

Viva Las Vegas Motor Speedway - Getting to Know the Diamond in the Desert

When most people think of Las Vegas, images of the infamous Vegas Strip, the sound of ringing slot machines and the tantalizing aromas of mile long buffets come to mind. When NASCAR fans think of Vegas, they think of the Neon Garage, driving schools and the excitement of the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. From the smell of burning rubber to the thunderous roar of speeding race cars, it's no surprise that NASCAR fans flock to Sin City for race day!

Home to the world's largest mechanical neon sign(Vegas Vic), the tallest building west of the Mississippi River (the Stratosphere) and six of the top ten largest hotels in the world; Las Vegas is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the US. From placing bets on the outcome of the race to touring the amazing Las Vegas Motor Speedway facility to actually attending a race at the Diamond in the Desert, Las Vegas is a one of a kind racing destination.

Since 1965, racing has been a part of the Vegas culture; when the original Stardust International Raceway was closed in 1970 plans for the new Las Vegas Speedrome began taking shape. What started as a road course and drag strip has evolved into the nine track Las Vegas Motor Speedway complex. The complex plays host to the NASCAR Sprint Cup, Nationwide series, Camping World Truck series as well as Indy Car, Champ Car and the NHRA. From Michael Waltrip Racing's own Mark Martin's win at the 1998 Inaugural Las Vegas 400 to Tony Stewart's 2012 win at the Kobalt Tools 400, the racing history at this track is an exciting one!

Las Vegas is known as the Entertainment Capital of the World and the Las Vegas Motor Speedway helps the city live up to that name! This 1.5 mile track is a fan favorite, with its 20 degree banking in the corners and 9 degree banking in the front and back stretch. Mark Martin still owns the Sprint Cup race record at this track from his March 1998 race, hitting the top speed of 146.554 mph. If watching your favorite drivers speed through the desert isn't enough for you, the Neon Garage adds another level of excitement to the Las Vegas Motor Speedway. The Neon Garage is a one of a kind, two-story viewing area for fans located in the center of the infield. The viewing area features live entertainment, a glass enclosed deck above the garage area and the opportunity to talk to drivers making the Neon Garage a must see for any race fan.

Las Vegas is known for a lot of things and is a popular destination for travelers of all kinds, with over 30 million people visiting Las Vegas annually. Through the years there have been a number of updates and improvements to the track and facilities, making the Phoenix International Raceway a favorite destination for NASCAR drivers and fans. Even though the first NASCAR Sprint Cup races weren’t held at PIR until 1988, there is almost a half century worth of racing history tucked around the beautiful Estrella Mountains. From the first "Polish Victory Lap" to Arie Luyendyk's one-lap world record for speed on a true one-mile oval, PIR holds a special place in racing history.

As the oldest major-league oval track west of the Mississippi River, Phoenix International Raceway has seen its fair share of redesigns and upgrades. Originally completed in January of 1964, this one mile track has grown to accommodate more and more fans through the years. Although it's not the largest track on the circuit, the 11 degree banking in turns one and two and nine degree banking in turns three and four, along with the "dogleg" design has made the Jewel in the Desert a fan favorite!

The Arizona heat and mountain climate have created drastic changes in temperature and weather at the Phoenix International Raceway. Extreme weather coupled with the nearly 200 major races wreaked havoc on the track's racing surface, necessitating a pavement overhaul in 1999. After the "Great Pot Hole Fiasco" at the 2010 Daytona 500, the Phoenix International Raceway recognized the need for another repaving job. This repaving was also accompanied by the first major redesign in Phoenix International Raceway history. In order to increase the level of competition at PIR, the engineering team and leadership at the track discussed their plans with a number of drivers and Goodyear tire experts. Through their experience and expertise, coupled with the foresight and passion of the PIR team, the Phoenix International Raceway was redesigned to create a better racing surface for drivers and an enhanced view for fans! The Jewel in the Desert now boasts side-by-side racing views for fans going into Turn 1 all the way through and out of Turn 4; Spectators in the grandstands get a better view of the race, something PIR is very proud of.

Though Clint Bowyer's last trip to the Phoenix International Raceway was an eventful one, we’re hoping for less time in the garage and more time in Victory Lane in 2013! Whether you've got a trackside seat at PIR for the upcoming Subway Fresh Fit 500 or you’ll be tuning in from home, take some time to appreciate the track and soak in all the amazing landscape and racing history that comes with an event at the Jewel in the Desert! Best of luck to Clint and the entire 5-hour ENERGY® Racing Crew!

And The Winners of the Empty Bottle Brainchild Contest Are…

The Empty Bottle Brainchild contest has ended and once again, our fans did not disappoint! The 5-hour civilization wanted the right to motivate and share their enthusiastic energy with all, but the mighty suppressors were against this. They, themselves, were scared of the 5-hour power. They knew all too well that the 5-hours stayed true to their words of "hours of energy" A battle ensued, but it ended within an hour because the mighty suppressors could not withstand their foes’ energy and had to surrender. To this day, the five hour kingdom rules fair and just, letting others prosper as they too are prosperous. Note: No 5-hours were harmed in the making of this castle. While we don't recommend going outside to workout in dangerously cold weather, the milder days of winter offer a great alternative to the gym! Even people who regularly run or bike outdoors during the warmer months will start to switch their workout routines to indoor activities. Hitting the gym is a good thing, but it’s also beneficial to your health to find some outdoor options. According to the 2008 Scottish Health Survey, outdoor physical activity has a 50 percent greater positive effect on mental health than going to the gym. A 2009 study from the University of Rochester found that working out outside for just 20 minutes can increase your energy levels as well. Beyond the health benefits of outdoor winter workouts, there's also the fun factor. You might not think of sledding and ice skating as exercises, but fun outdoor activities can be a workout in disguise!

Ice Skating- 437 calories burned per hour

You might think of ice skating as just a lower body workout, but it’s also great cardio! You don’t notice how hard your body is working when you ice skate, but even skating at a moderate speed (nine miles per hour or less) requires your entire body to be engaged. The challenge of keeping your balance provides the added benefit of core strengthening.

Hiking- 477 calories burned per hour

Hiking can be as extreme or as simple as you want it to be. Whether you are a beginner or an expert, hiking is another great form of cardio and will help tone your body. If you’re just starting out, it’s a good idea to start hiking on trails or other flat surfaces and slowly build up as you become stronger. To make your trips more fun, create a special hiking playlist or bring a friend to chat with along the way!

Sledding- 557 calories burned per hour

Did you know sledding could burn that many calories? Although the time spent zipping down hills on your sled isn’t considered a workout (though balancing and steering can benefit your core),the walk up the hill definitely is! Multiple trips up a steep hill are great leg and cardio exercises.

Cross Country Skiing- 636 calories burned per hour If you’re looking for the ultimate calorie burning outdoor activity, try cross country skiing! Cross country skiing combines a lower and upper body workout, which makes it a total body workout. The start of the 2013 NASCAR Sprint Cup season is just around the corner! Clint Bowyer and the rest of the Sprint Cup drivers will be heading to Daytona International Speedway for the Sprint Unlimited on February 16. This year fans are even more excited for the season thanks to the arrival of the Generation-6 car (Gen-6 car). This new style of car features several updates from the Car of Tomorrow we've gotten used to watching in seasons past.

According to NASCAR, the Gen-6 car is the biggest change since the introduction of the Car of Tomorrow in 2007. The goals in releasing the Gen-6 Car are to rebuild brand identity among automotive manufacturers and to provide upgrades to improve competition in NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series. Get a head start on the 2013 season and get to know the main physical and internal changes from last season's Car of Tomorrow!

It's all about the brand

Regardless of the car's brand, the Car of Tomorrow was built with a template that was used by all manufacturers. This means that Clint's #15 Toyota Camry was nearly identical in appearance to all of the other cars on the track. While the sponsor decals helped fans spot their drivers, the makes and models were hard to decipher with the cookie-cutter look of the Car of Tomorrow. The Gen-6 will look more like a street vehicle, meaning Clint Bowyer's #15 racecar will look more like a Toyota Camry than his 2012 car did. This change ties into one of the Gen-6's goals of rebuilding brand identity for the manufacturers, while also hoping to reignite the loyalty and rivalry among fans to their driver's car manufacturers.

New additions to the roof and windshield

The Gen-6 Cars also have a decal of the drivers' names on the windshield. The sponsor can also place a logo towards the back of the roof next to the driver's number.

Car length changes

Fans will also notice changes in the car's nose and tail length. In order for the Gen-6 to look more like their street car counterparts, the nose of the car will be two inches longer and the tail six inches shorter.

New safety enhancements

The Gen-6 has a few new safety features; the first is the addition of a carbon fiber hood and trunk lid (also known as a decklid). In the past, teams have tried to make their car more aerodynamic by making their hood and decklids flexible which allows them to cave in at high speeds. Carbon fiber is lightweight and strong, so it eliminates the advantage that teams may have gained. The second addition to the Gen-6 is a bumped up roll cage support. By adding a forward roof bar and a center roof support bar to reinforce the roll cage, this decreases the risk of the roof collapsing.

The changes made to the Gen-6 car will make it the safest, most competitive and identifiable car in NASCAR history. Keep an eye out for these differences on Clint Bowyer's #15 Toyota Camry when you cheer him on at the Daytona season opener!

New Year’s Resolutions That Aren’t Losing Weight

The year is coming to an end and for many people that means it’s time to choose a resolution for 2013. New Year’s resolutions are great, but overeating during the Holidays makes it too easy to choose the same goal year after year: lose weight. According to a study on 2012’s New Year’s resolutions, weight loss was the number one resolution, with 38 percent of those surveyed having some sort of goal that involved losing weight. This year we are providing you with resolutions that don’t involve work out or weight loss tips. Check out these five resolution ideas that will help make 2013 a nifty New Year!

Resolution Idea #1: Make Sleep a Priority

This might sound like a silly resolution, but sleep is important for your mental and physical health. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention found that nearly 30 percent of adults sleep six or fewer hours each night instead of the recommended seven to nine hours. In addition to fatigue and irritability, not getting enough sleep can lead to memory problems, mood swings, a lower immune system and even weight gain. In order to ensure a good night’s sleep, it is important to create good sleep habits and stick to them. Some examples of good sleep habits include going to bed at the same time every night, avoiding vigorous activity before bed and not consuming large meals or caffeine too close to bed.

Resolution Idea #2: Improve Your Posture

Improving your posture might not seem like something significant enough to be a New Year’s resolution, but it is! A good posture is the key to preventing muscle aches, strain, stress on joints and the risk for arthritis. Sitting at a desk all day makes it easy to practice a poor posture, but here are some tips from the Cleveland Clinic on how to sit properly:

Sit with your back straight and shoulders back with your rear end touching the back of your chair

Distribute your body weight evenly on both hips

Bend your knees at a right angle and keep your feet flat on the floor

Adjust your chair height and work station so you can sit close enough to your work to avoid hunching over

Resolution Idea #3: Get Organized

Whether it’s at work or at home, being organized is the key to keeping your stress under control. If your desk at work has stacks of papers and 50 different Post-Its of things to do, it is inevitable that you will be overwhelmed and will not know where to begin. Organizing your life with tools like a calendar or planner will give you more time to relax and be productive. If you are unorganized, a beneficial resolution for you might be choosing to get organized for 2013 and beyond!

Resolution Idea #4: Learn Something New

Even though you may be done with school, you can never be done learning. If you want to learn a new language or new skill, go for it! It can be scary putting yourself out there by trying something new, but you never know what may come out of your explorations. In addition to a feeling of immense personal growth, opening your mind and trying new things can boost your self-esteem, form new friendships and you may even discover a hidden talent!

Resolution Idea #5: Make Time for Yourself

Your family, work and school are all things that can easily take over your life, but it is important to set aside some time for yourself every day. You may feel guilty about taking time out for you, but it is necessary to realize that it’s beneficial for you and those around you in the long run. Constantly being on the go wears you down and puts you at risk to become stressed and tired. This is why you should set aside a minimum of 15 minutes of “me time” per day of time. Choose to do whatever you like during this time so you are left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated afterwards.

The New Year can be your new beginning if you want it to be. This year the 5-hour ENERGY® team helped drive out hunger by filling the Gleaners truck with over 2,000 lbs of food.

For more than 35 years, Gleaners Food Bank has provided millions of pounds of donated and purchased food to those in need. According to Feeding America; a national food donation organization of which Gleaners Food Bank is a member, one in six Americans struggle with hunger. What better gift to give this Holiday season than a meal to someone in need? From holiday travel to gift giving to family vacations, expenses during the Holidays can quickly and easily spiral out of control. Since it’s that time of year again, the 5-hour ENERGY® team put together 5 tips that can help you save money during the 2012 Holiday season.

Know your financial limits

The first step to saving during the Holidays is to know how much money you have to spend then committing to that budget. If you don’t have enough money to buy gifts for your entire family, communicate that to them. Offer a budget-friendly alternative to buying gifts for each family member, such as a Secret Santa gift exchange. This reduces the cost of buying multiple gifts to only buying one gift. Being honest with what you can and cannot afford is a simple way to eliminate much post-Holiday financial stress.

Make a list and stick to it

Once you know your financial limits, the next thing to do is map out how you are going to spend your available Holiday budget. Physically write down what gifts you plan on buying for friends and family, how much you will spend on food if you are having a family meal, travel costs, and any other expenses you will have. Sticking to a list will help keep you from buying unnecessary additional items and spending money that you don’t have.

Keep track of what you spend

If you’re looking to save money during the Holidays, it’s vital to keep a running total of how much you are spending. Unexpected expenses can creep up, especially during the Holidays. From extra wrapping paper to a gift for the mailman, it’s important to be aware of where your money is going. Keep a notebook in your car or create a list on your phone of all the Holiday spending you’re doing so when you revisit your budget you can factor in all the expenses.

Be careful with credit cards

Besides sticking to your list, another helpful way to stick to your Holiday budget is by using cash. Cash is a simple way to keep track of how much you spend- you start off with a certain amount of money and when it’s gone, it’s gone! For those looking to control Holiday spending, cash is a great alternative to credit cards because you physically see how much you are spending and how much of your budget remains.

Shop early

Waiting until the last minute to do Holiday shopping can be a complete nightmare. You have to deal with huge crowds of people, long lines and unnecessary stress. More time shopping means less time with friends and family. If you wait until the last minute to do your Holiday shopping, you are more likely to buy what is in front of you, regardless of the cost, due to fatigue. Shopping early gives you the time to think about what you want to shop for and compare prices at different stores.

These are just a few simple ways for you to save this Holiday season, but because it’s the season of giving, we’ll throw in an extra tip; give the gift of 5-hour ENERGY®! Happy Holidays from the 5-hour ENERGY® team to you!

Clint Bowyer’s2012 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Season at a Glance

5-hour ENERGY® Racing is proud to congratulate Clint Bowyer on this weekends’ #2 finish at the Ford EcoBoost 400! The contest invites racing fans to search for 15 hidden 5-hour ENERGY® tokens. We also included bonus codes on Michael Waltrip Racing’s Website, so fans that took the time to scour the Michael Waltrip Racing site for bonus codes increased their chances of winning. Each token was paired with a code word that fans were required submit on the contest entry form, to enter for a chance to win a year’s supply of 5-hour ENERGY®. Our VIP Racing Experience winner, Peter J. Gajkowski Jr., not only experienced the win first hand, but also got an MWR shop tour, unique team access at the track, honorary pit crew membership and even his name on the car! Here’s what Peter had to say about his once in a life time Racing Experience:

1. Give us a rundown of the VIP Experience?

I landed in Charlotte late Friday morning and met up with my guest. Then we headed to Michael Waltrip Racing and had lunch with a few very friendly employees and after lunch, we did the MWR shop tour.

2. Part of your prize package included a Michael Waltrip Racing shop tour. Tell us about that. What was the coolest part of the MWR shop tour?

The coolest part of the tour was it was given by the 56 cars gas man, Wes. He was really friendly and answered every question I had. Something interesting on the tour was when they explained what happens to cars after they are damaged.

3. You got to meet and take photos with Michael Waltrip and Clint Bowyer. What were they like? Can you describe your meet and greet?

Michael Waltrip was funny, nice and very down to earth. He doesn’t let his fame go to his head. After Clint won the race, he was so excited - he even gave me a hug in victory lane!

Clint Bowyer was really cool. It was funny because he joked around that maybe we both will have our names in victory lane and that actually happened! For a guy being pulled 10 different directions it was awesome that he took the time to talk to us.

4. You mentioned in your last interview that one of the things you were looking forward to most was seeing your name on Clint Bowyer’s Toyota Camry. How did you react to seeing your name on Clint’s car?

Never in a million years did I think my name would be that big on Clint’s car. I honestly expected a tiny sticker with my name, but it was far from that! You can see the sticker with my name on it in the photos of Clint and his car in Victory Lane. I told Clint that maybe my name brought him luck!

5. You got to watch the race from Clint Bowyer’s pit box. Describe what went on throughout the race in the pit box. What was it like being so close to all of the action?

Being on the pit box was fun because you get to see everything up close and not many people get to experience that. One thing that I didn’t realize was the amount of noise, though. It was really loud! I have even more respect for the pit crew after seeing them up close and in action for a pit stop.

6. Describe the moments before and up to when Clint crossed the finish line. What was it like to experience Clint’s victory among the team that helped make it possible?

When there were 50 laps left in the race, I got in touch with my contact at MWR to see if we could head over to Victory Lane. So during the last 10 laps of the race we were over to Victory Lane and got there right as Clint was arriving. It was so awesome to be with the team as they celebrated their victory. I even got to have my photo taken with Clint and his trophy!

7. A trip to victory lane is rare for fans. How incredible was it to celebrate with Clint and his team on Victory Lane?

It was one of the best things to ever happen to me. It was awesome that he won, but it was even greater that I was able to celebrate the victory in Victory Lane. After the race while Clint was in the media center, the MWR team explained to me what goes on after a victory such as the large number of interviews he had to do.

8. If you had to use one word to describe your 5-hour ENERGY® VIP Racing Experience, what would it be?

Unforgettable.

The 5-hour ENERGY® team would like to congratulate Peter once again for winning this once in a lifetime racing prize package. Stay tuned for upcoming 5-hour ENERGY® contests and giveaways!

Martinsville Speedway – Celebrating 65 years of Racing History

This weekend NASCAR drivers are packing their bags to travel to the shortest track on the Sprint Cup Circuit; Martinsville Speedway. From the track’s paper-clip shape with long straight-aways to the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog, this 0.526 mile speedway is truly unique. Since 1947 NASCAR fans have been tuning into races in Martinsville for the racing excitement and proximity to the action! This year Martinsville Speedway is celebrating their 65th anniversary, before tuning into this weekend’s TUMS Fast Relief 500 race, here is a quick history of Virginia’s historic track!

In 1947, H. Clay Earles built Martinsville Speedway before NASCAR was even an official sport. Originally the speedway was just a dirt track with 750 seats, but races fans were drawn to the track in crowds of over 6,000. The track’s inaugural race was on September 7, 1947 and was won by Robert “Red” Bryon. Once the NASCAR organization was formed, Martinsville hosted the sixth race in the Strictly Stock Series, which would grow to become the Sprint Cup Series. Martinsville Speedway is the only track that has hosted NASCAR Sprint Cup Series races every year since the division’s inception in 1949!

As the founder, Earles was determined to make Martinsville Speedway a great destination for fans. Through progressive track improvements, Earles worked to create the best experience for visiting fans. In his words, “When a man plunks down his money, he deserves the best. You try to make him comfortable, give him a great show and make sure he gets his money’s worth.” Today the track has over 63,000 seats, VIP suites, state-of-the-art media facilities and a pedestrian tunnel below the fourth turn.

Earles’ customer-centric philosophy proved to be effective. According to the speedway’s Website, a recent poll of race fans revealed Martinsville Speedway was voted as the top bargain in all of Sprint Cup racing and is the track with the best view. Due to the speedway’s compact size, fans are physically closer to the racing action than at any other track. There’s not a bad seat in the house because fans are never more than a few hundred yards away from the excitement!

When it comes to records held at Martinsville, racing legend Richard Petty holds most of them. Petty holds the track’s records for most wins (15), most top fives (30), most top 10s (37), most starts (67) and most laps completed (27,891). Besides impressive track records, Martinsville Speedway is known for some quirky traditions, including unique trophies. The track’s founder thought it was time for a different type of trophy for winners at his track so he chose to award winners with a grandfather clock. In 1964 Earles awarded the first Ridgeway clock trophy to Red Lorenzen and the tradition still continues today. Another tradition at Martinsville is the Famous Martinsville Speedway Hot Dog. The unique hot dog, topped with slaw, chili, fresh onions and other secret ingredients, has been a hot commodity at Martinsville for decades and is the top NASCAR concession item.

Get ready for some high speeds and hard braking! The combination of Martinsville’s distinct shape, minimal banking in the turns and long, flat straightaways are what makes racing at this track unpredictable and thrilling. At the April race held at Martinsville’s, 5-hour ENERGY®’s own Clint Bowyer placed 10th, so be sure to tune in this weekend to cheer on Clint and the 5-hour ENERGY® Racing team as they head back to Martinsville Speedway!

5-hour ENERGY® Boosts Social Presence with Pinterest & Foursquare

5-hour ENERGY® is always looking for new ways to connect and interact with our fans.
