The result helped Guingamp keep their place above the relegation zone but the club have now gone 5 games without a goal.

Victor Zvunka opted for a 4-4-2 formation with Gilmar and Scarpelli leading the attack and Richard Soumah and Jugurtha Hamroun on the flanks. El Jadeyaoui returned to the team on the bench.

From the off it appeared that Nimes had come to defend and take a point from the Roudourou. Playing a 4-5-1 formation they looked to slow the game down and make themselves difficult to beat and were always looking to play long balls forward to their lone striker Jonathan Ayite.

Guingamp struggled to create chances on goal, the first chance of the game did not arrive until the 23rd minute but Fabrice Colleau missed the target, this was the only real chance for either side in a first half that Guingamp dominated for possession.

In the second half a mistake by the Nimes defence let Soumah in on goal but he was unable to give EAG the lead. Hamroun had a great chance from a free-kick but his effort came back off the crossbar.

Zvunka made some attacking changes in the second half bringing on El Jadeyaoui and Ogunbiyi in place of Scarpelli and Colleau. Guingamp had chances to win the match in the closing minutes but a late effort by El Jadeyaoui was tipped over the bar and Gilmar was denied a goal in the 90th minute.

Guingamp have now failed to score in their last 5 games and their lack of goals seems to be a problem that is not going to go away in a hurry. If EAG cannot start finding the net soon then they are going to get left behind at the bottom of the table with games running out and relegation now becomes a real possibility.

Guingamp’s next game is away at fellow strugglers Dijon, a game that is now a must win match for the Red and Blacks.

After 0-0 draws against rivals Brest and bottom of the league Bastia EAG now face another team that are flying high in the L2 table.

Despite their lowly position in the L2 table the Red and Blacks have only lost once at home this season, although they are hard to beat at home they have only won two of twelve homes games with the other nine ending in a draw. This is primarily due to a lack of goals, only FC Istres have scored less goals in the league this season.

Nimes have lost just one league game in 2010, a 3-1 defeat away at FC Metz however their form away from is average, four wins, two draws and seven defeats on their travels this season.

The biggest threat from the crocodiles tonight is likely to come from their strike-partnership which has notched up 17 goals this season, Jean-Jacques Mandrichi with nine and Jonathan Ayite with eight.

Guingamp will be boosted by the return of winger Alharbi El Jadeyaoui, the player has been out with injury since the beginning of December, his last game being EAG’s 1-0 win over Chateauroux, coincidentally this was Guingamps last league win.

Games are running out fast and EAG need to begin addressing the clubs lowly position as relegation is still a very real possibility this season, a win at home to Nimes tonight could provide the perfect springboard to get Guingamp up and away from the relegation zone.
