Carmichael has seen action in 28 games as a Hokie, recording 20 tackles and 3 pass break ups. The fastest of the Hokies, he has a recorded 40 time of 4.26 seconds (now I’m really questioning the testing numbers coming out of VT). Along with his duties at corner, he will log times on special teams. Darryl Slater of the Richmond Times Dispatch has a nice article on Carmichael that describes how he separated himself from the competition to nail down the starting spot this spring. Stephen Virgil #22A senior with 14 career starts to his credit, Virgil takes over the boundary corner position after manning the field corner position last season. Virgil is a game changer: He blocked a punt for a safety against Nebraska; returned a punt for a touchdown against East Carolina; and grabbed another interception in the ACC Championship game that he returned 36 yards to put the offense in scoring position. Virgil is one of the defensive team leaders, and like his fellow corner, Rashad Carmichael, he will play on special teams for the Hokies on Saturday. Dorian Porch #24Porch measures 5 ‘ 11” and weighs a little over 200 lbs. He is a redshirt senior with 9 starts and has seen action in 40 games during his Tech career. He has recorded 74 tackles with 1 interception from the Rover position. NFLDRAFTSCOUT.COM rates Porch as the 9th best strong safety available for the 2010 NFL Draft. In an interview with Planet Blacksburg, Porch says he’s excited to play in Atlanta because it is close to his home In Calhoun, Ga.Kam Chancellor #17He’s 6’ 4” and 230 lbs, and he plays free safety. Chancellor would play linebacker at several SEC schools, possibly at Alabama, but the Hokies planted him at safety and he’s been a beast. With 140 career tackles and 4 interceptions, the senior is positioned to go high in the 2010 NFL Draft; NFLDRAFTSCOUT.Com rates him as the 3rd best free safety available for this year’s draft. Chancellor is on the 2009 Preseason Bronko Nagurski Trophy Watch List, the 2009 Thorpe Award Preseason Watch List, and is a preseason 1st team All-ACC selection. Observations The Hokie secondary is fast and physical. Kam Chancellor is probably the best secondary player the Tide will face all year, and if .....nevermind Julio is cleared. The Hokie secondary is dangerous, but with Julio available I feel much better about the Tide's chances of making some plays in the passing game. We just need to keep the chains moving, nothing spectacular; of course, I'm willing to take spectacular if the Tide receivers can deliver it. </itunes:summary><description>Projected StartersRashad Carmichael #21The 5’ 11” 186 lb. redshirt junior will start the second game of his career against the Tide on Saturday.
