THE Under-11s, sponsored by M D Solutions, reached the next round of the TJFA Challenge Cup after a 3-1 triumph over Thornaby FC.

The home side took the lead deep in the first half when Will Hutchinson slotted home his first of the season.

Then just before the break, winger Jack Woolet - assisted by John Eglinton and Will Hutchinson - found the back of the net to notch up his fifth goal of the season.

In the second half the visitors scored from a corner to reduce the deficit to 2-1.

Both teams then performed admirably in appalling conditions before Eaglescliffe finished the scoring just before the final whistle, courtesy of Daniel Nixon.

Man of the match was Lewis Newman for a solid performance at right-back.

NEW players are needed to bolster Eaglescliffe Elementis JFC's Under-12s and Under-14s. For more details, call Debbie on 07792 423532.

A STOCKTON MP is pressing rail chiefs to increase parking at Eaglescliffe Station to help attract future investment for improvements.

Dari Taylor, MP for Stockton South, is determined to persuade Network Rail that a business case exists to enhance the station and encourage wider use.

The MP is confident that the creation of more parking spaces - the responsibility of Network Rail - will secure additional investment for improvements like a ticket office, lift for disabled access and a bike store.

Dari met with officials from Network Rail, Stockton Council, Tees Valley Strategy Unit, Grand Central Trains and a local businessman to discuss investment.

"Investment for Eaglescliffe Station is available," she said. "To make the local authority, private finance and Grand Central commitment a reality Network Rail must provide more parking spaces."

Dari regularly travels from Eaglescliffe on Grand Central and like other commuters said she often struggles to find a parking space.

"We need another 50 car parking spaces minimum, on separate land that Network Rail owns," she said.

"Until car parking is improved at Eaglescliffe people will go to Darlington or Middlesbrough stations where they have secure parking in operation."

A spokesperson for Network Rail told the Gazette: "The meeting was about an aspiration by Grand Central to extend the car park at Eaglescliffe station. We have agreed to look in detail at these proposals although we would not be funding them.

"At this stage there seems to be no reason why we would not support such plans.

"Tees Valley Joint Strategy Unit has an aspiration to open up a ticket office at the station, and is proposing that this will be run by a private company. In principal, Network Rail has no objection to supporting the development of a ticket office.

"A third TVJSU aspiration is to improve the accessibility of the station. This will be developed as part of the main Tees Valley Metro project. All of these aspirations are at an early stage and we will continue to work with local organisations to see how they can best be taken forward."

Richard McGuckin, acting head of technical services at Stockton Council, said the authority would fund any improvements to disabled access at Eaglescliffe. "We want to see these improvements in place," he said.

THE Under-13s won 5-2 at Trimdon in a top-of-the-table clash between teams which had already scored 77 goals between them this season.

Elementis started at an electrifying pace, with Tom Young and Lloyd Durkin causing problems for the Trimdon defence. Young opened the scoring and quickly added a second after a well-worked move with Jason Elgie.

Elgie then got himself on the scoresheet before Young completed his fifth hat-trick and 17th goal of the season. Trimdon reduced the deficit to make it 4-1 at half-time.

The second half was a much quieter affair, with both teams scoring one to make it 5-2 to Eaglescliffe at full-time.

Jonathon Seaton, who scored the second half goal, was named MOM for a fine midfield display in a game which was a great advert for the division, with both teams and supporters playing their part.

Meanwhile the Under-10s were also at Trimdon and emerged with a point in a game spoiled by heavy wind and rain.

Despite the weather, both teams played some good attacking football with an under-strength Elementis creating the better opportunities and striker Josh Nixon going close on a few occasions.

But it was Trimdon who took the lead, going 1-0 up with a quality goal.

In the second half, Eaglescliffe really had a go and got the breakthrough they deserved with a fantastic goal from MOM Lewis Nixon giving the Trimdon keeper no chance.

Both teams never gave up and battled through the wind, but it finished 1-1.

The World of Difference UK programme, delivered by the Vodafone Foundation, is giving 500 people the opportunity to take a two month paid placement with a UK charity of their choice. World of Difference UK is open to anyone over 18 in the UK who has the passion, drive and commitment to donate themselves to a charity. Taking part involves finding the right charity to suit interests, skills and experience and completing an online application form at vodafone.co.uk/worldofdifference by 3 November 2009.

If you're successful, the Vodafone Foundation will pay the charity you choose a total of £2,500 and you'll get the balance when tax and National Insurance have been paid. Finding the right charity is also easy, as the website has a unique online charity matchmaker, developed in consultation with the UK's leading volunteering charity, WorldWide Volunteering (WWV).

In addition, Vodafone UK will donate a new mobile phone and pre-paid credit to each of the 500 successful applicants so they can share their experiences with friends and family and inspire others to make a difference. The deadline for applications for World of Difference UK is 3 November, with the first placements beginning in January 2010.

"For people who feel passionate about a charity or cause, or for those who simply have time on their hands, Vodafone Foundation's World of Difference programme offers an ideal opportunity to help others whilst gaining valuable life and work experience," said Andrew Dunnett, Director of the Vodafone Foundation. "We've seen a huge surge of interest in UK-based charity placements, with over 127,000 Facebook fans following us on facebook.com/worldofdifference. when we launched our International programme earlier this year. World of Difference UK gives people who want to donate themselves, and get paid, the chance to put that passion into practice."

Eight UK winners from the Vodafone Foundation's World of Difference International programme have been confirmed. The winners (Nick Eastcott from Dorset, Kathryn Becher from Devon, Lucy Buck from East Sussex, Max Griffiths from London, Naomi Pendle from Bath, Zoe Vowles from London, Rebecca Webb from Southampton and Jain Reid from London) beat 1,000 applicants to work for their chosen charities overseas for 12 months, with salary and expenses paid up to £45,000.

For further information on the World of Difference programmes visit vodafone.co.uk/worldofdifference or join the World of Difference Facebook fan page facebook.com/worldofdifference.

THE Under-12s secured their first win of the season, winning 3-1 in an action packed encounter at Skelton United.

Eaglescliffe came flying out of the traps and, after several near misses, looked set to beak the deadlock when skipper Alex Robson stormed through, only to be clattered by the keeper just outside the area. Adam Maroney's powerful free kick was deflected wide.

But Eaglescliffe deservedly went ahead when the home keeper parried a Harry Waugh effort into the path of Robson, who scored from close range.

A well-drilled Skelton offside ploy, over eagerness by the Elementis forward line and several near misses - including three consecutive efforts by Eaglescliffe man of the match Euan Riddle - ensured it stayed 1-0 until just before the break, when a Maroney left foot stunner made it two.

But Skelton refused to lie down and reduced the deficit ten minutes after the break. They could have equalised, but for a John Calvert save and the follow-up hitting the post and going out.

Eaglescliffe got the third their dominance deserved, however, when centre-half Sam Trewartha ventured forward and curled an exquisite effort into the net.

A good display and a real morale booster for Eaglescliffe, but credit also to Skelton for hanging in there and displaying a fine attitude.

The Under-13s entertained Hardwick Youth in what turned out to be an entertaining but tense encounter. Elementis opened the scoring after five minutes, Tom Young netting his 14th of the season, then Charley Hutchinson added a second shortly after with a fine shot from 20 yards.

Elementis then allowed a Hardwick forward through who scored from 20 yards to make it 2-1.

Eaglescliffe introduced sub Nathan Patterson, who scored after five minutes of his introduction and again just before half time to make it 4-1.

The second half was mainly a midfield affair, although Elementis had enough chances to put the game beyond doubt.

Midway through the half, Hardwick grabbed a second to set up a tense last 15 minutes, but it ended 4-2. MOM was Nathan Patterson.

THE U13s kept up their 100% start to the league season with a 5-1 win at Greatham B.

After five minutes, Tom Young stepped up to score his 13th goal of the season, but Greatham caught Elementis cold with an equaliser soon afterwards.

Elementis then applied pressure and following good play down the right between Young and Jason Elgie, a Jack Reay tap in made it 2-1. And it was 3-1 before half time, Reay adding his second.

Great saves from the Greatham keeper kept Elementis at bay in the second half until the fourth came when Elgie finished off a good move. A well-timed challenge from defender Matty Doyle foiled Greatham as they bore down on goal and, from the resulting clearance, Jack Reay bagged his third to make it 5-1. Nathan Patterson was MOM for an excellent game in the centre of midfield.

The U15s ran out comfortable winners 5-2 at Middleton Rangers A. A 25 yard screamer from Callum Peacock began the scoring, then the keeper fumbled a Max Baker shot and captain Josh Larkin nipped in to make it 2-0.

Five minutes later, Larkin got his second with a precision strike from 15 yards, followed by Kingsley Behan exquisitely lobbing the keeper from 20 yards for his first of the season.

After the break, Rangers pulled two back but with five minutes left, a cracker from Nathan Bayes made it 5-2, although it could have been more but for a hat-full of missed chances and regularly hitting the woodwork. MOM was Callum Peacock.

The U11s earned a creditable 2-2 draw at league leaders Skelton. After a goalless first half, Eaglescliffe went 2-0 behind soon after the break thanks to a penalty and disputed second. But Eaglescliffe never gave up hope and Sam Jarps forced the ball home from a goalmouth scramble to make it 2-1.

Eaglescliffe notched up a gear and after John Eglinton drove a fierce free-kick into the Skelton wall, it rebounded to him and he lobbed the stranded keeper from 25 yards to level 2-2.

Credit to Eaglescliffe for a brilliant team performance, especially Danny Nixon, Joseph Forbes, Max Robinson and captain Harry Robson for their 'never say die' attitude. MOM was keeper Kieran Durham.

The U12s went down 7-3 at home to 21st All Stars A, but the display was a marked improvement on last week. Home goalscorers were Karl Alderton, Alfie Clark and Lewis Waugh, with MOM Joel Whitworth and Nathan Doyle an impressive stand-in keeper.

The U10s went down 4-0 at league leaders Primrose Hill, although there was little to choose between the sides. MOM was Jacob Ealand.
