With Thanksgiving right around the corner, this is the perfect opportunity to celebrate the partnerships that have truly enriched the lives of our early college students. I think you'll enjoy our November Update in which we acknowledge:

The Power of Parents: Read about our amazing parents, 94% of whom participated in student-led conferences last month! We celebrated our new partnership with ASU's Office of Community Development & Civil Rights and the American Dream Academy from which 31 parents graduated last week
Learning through community service and civic action through partnerships with: AZ Adopt a Greyhound, Rebuilding Together Phoenix, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, The Multiple Sclerosis Organization, Mi Familia Vota, Kids Voting, Junior Achievement,
Cultural Affairs: Thanks to the Hispanic Women's Corporation who made it possible for a group of our girls to attend the 13th Annual Youth Leadership Institute. Also, thank you so much to Bruce W. Ferguson of F.A.R. (Future Arts Research) @ ASU and the opportunity for our students to attend Anna Deavere Smith's one-woman play, "The Arizona Project."

The hard work of our students and faculty which has resulted in our school's designation as "Performing Plus," We are delighted to report a 1.7% drop-out rate, and a 94% attendance rate!!

PSAT Coming Soon!

On Wednesday, October 15th, Early College Juniors and Seniors will participate in the Preliminary SAT Test/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT). This is an important step in developing the skills necessary to acheive high scores on the SAT test. Results will be returned to school from the College Board in December!

We kick off the Fall Semester with a renewed commitment to sustaining rigorous curriculum, relevance through courses that pertain to the lives of our students, relationships that let each and every one of our students count on adults who know and care about them at school, and to achieving results! In this month's Back to School Newsletter I'm proud to feature classroom updates from my fabulous faculty and also to highlight the following:

Biology/Botany Teacher, Theresa Johnson, recent recipient of an innovative grant from the University of Arizona AZ Rivers Project
Artist-in-residence, Eduardo Barraza, and our new Digital Media/Photojournalism class
Partnerships with Wells Fargo Bank, Hands On Greater Phoenix, United Blood Services, Junior Achievement, and a new collaborative with the GateWay Community College Career and Employment Services Center
Our new parent education program, The American Dream Academy, offered in collaboration with ASU's Center for Community Development and Civil Rights
