The same week as graduation – Amelia had her recital! She was very excited – she loves performing. She did a great job and I think she really enjoys dancing. Since she is so young, we are going to take a break next year and try something else – but I think she might come back to dance, she loves it so much. I love one of the last pictures – Amelia is at a very silly age right now so her ballerina self couldn’t keep from sticking out her tongue. That is so her right now. I love you Amelia, my ballerina princess!

Mother to a Graduate

A pre-k graduate that is… Amelia (& cousin Lena) graduated pre-k last week! I really think the milestone is more that she will be heading on to kindergarten and the real elementary next year – she is very excited about it, and I am excited for her. Although between that and almost losing her first tooth (it is so close), she is hitting milestones a bit too quickly for me.

Really pre-k graduation was a very cute show, and Amelia does like to be on stage. I think she might be the only one in her class singing at times! Congratulations on graduation Amelia (& Lena)!

Amelia is actually getting the concept of the point & shoot camera – she can look for her image and take a picture. Hard to believe my not quite five year old is already taking some of these pictures! I am partial to that last one of me with my camera.

Last time we were at the cabin, each girl got turns with the point & shoot camera. Amelia got some good pictures actually (that’s a different post.) I wanted to start with Katherine. She rather look in the lens so we got some pretty funny pictures. So without further adieu, here is Katherine’s perspective.

Gold!

During spring break we trekked to Dahlonega and went gold mining. The weather was not ideal, but that was a lot of fun. I highly recommend it, especially with the 4+ crowd. Katherine was starting to get it but needed a lot of help whereas Amelia could mostly do it herself and they both love rocks. I need to get something to hold the large rock collection we are getting. So it is nice that they also had ‘gem’ mining where they found lots of shiny pretty (not-valuable) gems. Since we were nearby we also investigated Babyland General. It wasn’t really what I expected – I mean, it really is just a huge store and every few minutes a cabbage patch kid is born. And they use words like easy-otimy. I was a little disturbed by that part actually. We managed to leave without buying anything but Amelia now says she wants to go back for her birthday to buy one. So maybe that will be her gift. The store really does have everything under the sun for those dolls so it is a great place for something like that – to allow her to stroll and pick out something that is just hers. I’m sure I’ll blog that if we go that route.

Easter!

Easter… that holiday when I have the girls wear dresses only once, haha. Okay twice because of photos maybe… We had a great Easter with friends & family and the girls loved everything the Easter Bunny brought. Amelia said something like, ‘he knew just what to bring us mommy, how did he know?’. Next year the Easter Bunny will not be bringing those Crayola bubbles though – we learned that lesson this year. Might be good when wearing a bathing suit maybe, and it even says on there it is messy. There is truth on that label. If only it had been read ahead of time… Okay I’m rambling. It’s late, and I’m behind in photos so hopefully this helps us catch up. A couple fun things – the girls loved their chocolate crosses… so I think Amelia has officially crossed into the liking sweets territory. She’s been inching that way for a long time. Also, thanks to my youngest Katherine, they discovered the bunny straws made great whistles. Um yeah…. we love that.

Spring Break in the Mountains

We took an excursion during spring break to head to the mountains. Almost every year around April 1st it snows, but this year – no snow. No luck. I think I jinxed us when I got Amelia a snow sled for Christmas (well santa did anyway.)

It was great fun as always and I love that the girls love being outside and enjoying nature. We are getting Katherine to do more of her own hiking now and should soon be ready to give our hiking backpack to someone else… she is 30+ pounds so it is about time for her to not ride in her backpack. It also marked the first time I french braided Amelia’s hair into two braids – I love how it looks but it does take awhile with her thick hair.

I swear though in some of the pictures, she was so much older! Where is my baby girl… Amelia is growing up! Then again so is Katherine. She really isn’t a baby anymore. We had a great weekend, and are so grateful we get to visit the mountains often.

I had a discounted canvas I had bought months ago – so with two weeks left I was trying desparetely to get the girls to cooperate for a photo. What happened instead – was either one would look great and one would be looking off into who knows where… or they would be silly. Which, while I am not putting these on canvas – I still enjoy.

I did end up getting a great shot on the last day, but it is more fun to share these silly ones. I love my girls.

Conversations with Amelia

The things Amelia says now… sometimes it is such a window into the woman she will become. So grown up for a 4 1/2 year old. So much logic. Often it really cracks me up for reasons she doesn’t understand.

Here are three recent conversations:

1) While at Chick-fil-a in the playground area, some boys were not behaving nicely. Nonni tried to say something to them – nicely – and Amelia replied ‘Nonni, they are boys. They aren’t going to listen.’

2) While at Costco, one of the nice employees said hi and Amelia pretty much ran up and hugged him. He introduced himself after she said her name. Now I love her loving spirit, but I am concerned about how she just goes up to strangers so easily – so after we walked away I just said, ‘ Amelia, when you meet someone new whom we don’t know, ask mommy first if it is okay to give them a hug.’ Her reply? ‘But mommy – his name is Patrick and he works here. We know him.’

3) Somehow we were talking about how our neighbors had 4 kids, and we only had two. So she asked me when her next sibling was coming along. I answered we were happy with our family of four and she decided she is going to have six kids. ‘Mommy, the biggest one will be a girl, and she will be born in July and I will name her Kelly.’ Awww. Apparently her six kids will alternate girl – boy – girl – boy… the first three will be named Kelly, Alex and Amelia. No word on the other names yet.

It is so fun to see how she is growing these days – not just in height. [Most people don't believe me now when I say she is 4 1/2 - she is growing like a weed!]

Mommy was feeling artistic with her photo editing the other day… but I love how these turned out.
