If you are like me knowing Appulo.us for as long as since Q3 2008 you will know that Appulo.us has gone through so many obstacles, so much hard work done by one man Kyek. And yet he did all this for not making a penny from his enormous website.

Initially the site is not intended for piracy, but soon after the launch of the site more and more people find out they can install free apps from here. And yet as the number of iPhone and iPod touch user keep growing exponentially the site went through several major upgrades and server migration. To a point he have to start trolling the number of user to get access to the site.

Well if you are still a fan of this “piracy community” you should know by now that there is another new site set up and yet offers much more robust access time and loading time.

But with the limited number of apps in their App Store I’d say that their Bing App is pretty impressive. At least it’s much better then their competitor the Google Mobile App.

They both offer voice over search, and with few test I did the result is pretty accurate.

I personally like the layout of the Bing, it pretty much adopted the desktop’s design and put it into an iPhone App.

you can see those hover over box just like you would see in the regular website, smooth animation between the box.

Map shows little bid delay then the Google Map, I guess the only way that keeps me away using their map is that it doesn’t offer real time traffic where as Google did in their map. But overall it’s much the same if you don’t consider that Google has street view option.

Their image search is some thing nice to see, I’d say that it’s even better then flicker’s iPhone App.

Over all it offers more then what Google has offered in their application, all Google Mobile’s App does is just the link to a safari browser and goes to their mobile version, which in another way it losses the point of having an mobile application.

Here is a live Demo showing how you can bypass the Appulo.us Troll Bridge without knowing the answer on those Troll Bridge Question.

This is an update on the blog post I did a week ago, as I’m getting some response that people don’t know how to use the tricks.

Basically here is how:

1. Find the application you want to search

2. enter the application name follow with "site:appulo.us" here is an example on how you can get Wolfenstein RPG for "free"

3. click on the "Cached" link

4. get the links to the download page

Enjoy

Note: this will not work 100% but it will find most, over 90% of the applications for you

Okay so by now everybody who owns a Jailbreak iPhone or iPod touch knows appulous. And everybody knows Appulous knows they don’t have to pay a penny to get any applications they want for their iPhone and iPod touch.

And so, with little more than 1 year of this Appulous launch the site has been temporary out of services for many times. So here we go again, this time they got something clever going on introduced  “The Troll Bridge” of course they will ask those crazy questions that nobody will know the answer except themselves. That’s the point of Troll. If everybody knows the answer, which most of them will just simply Google it. But too bad, they can change the answer real quick, quicker then the answer appear on Google or Twitter. BECAUSE they want to keep the traffic low, while still have the site on service.

For the now when I’m writing this post they are asking “When Appulous was tiny, it ran on a VPS provided by _________________.com” How the F*** do people know those answers ? and even you do they will change the question real fast.

Well now we have another cat and mouse game. It’s never good to be the mouse, so here is another way you can do to bypass the troll bridge, which I’ve mentioned MUCH MUCH earlier use Google Cached search method

Go to my earlier post see how you can use Appulous when its down or out of service

This will work for MOST of the games or applications you are try to find. or simply if you know the application host you can simply search by the application name and + host name

For example search : “Jet Car Stunts” + 4shared or 2shared or something else that you normally would go to

Note: I’m here try to provide you an alternative way to get your beloved application.  BECAUSE there are other ways other than going to Appulo.us

So off I went tired, and it does show the traffic status for major rout. But I was having doubt that it might just show me the status quo, where the traffic congestions never changes, so this morning I did the test again, and woha ! I does show the different result from time to time.

So here is the picture of Vancouver the highlight are the freeways.

Not only it shows the highway traffic it also shows the major rout as well !

It just too bad that I don’t have 3G connection, to test it out in real time. But I’m now pretty positive about this feature hope it will help travelers.

and yes to enable the feature just go to the little right bottom paper icon, and tap show traffic. You are all set.

And off I went, enabled the “Show Traffic” and woha you can see the major highway traffic.

Pretty much the color explains itself.

If you haven’t figured it out by now, red means congestion, yellow/amber means partial congestion, and green equates to all clear.

So I will come back and keep checking see if this really works, as not just the status of the traffic historically.
