Can you believe that Dana has completed 99 sketchbooks? Well she is just about done with sketchbook 99. I think that is certainly incredible. This sketchbook video is all about reinforcing the fact that you should always surround yourself with artists who are playing at a higher level.

Dana is certainly playing at a superior level to say the least. Don’t get discouraged get motivated to strive to reach your 99th sketchbook.

Tina The Sketchbook Part Two

Here we go again with Tina’s sketchbook part two. Tina has got to be no doubt the hardest working student I’ve had in quite some time. You can literary see Tina absorbing information like a sponge in class.

I’m completely blown away this year with the talent that in class. When you’ve got several students with talent overload in one classroom, they all grow together so fast. They all feed off of each other.

Sign up for a drawing class at you local community college. You never know, you could find yourself sitting next the likes of a Tina. Your drawings will thank you for signing up.

Drawing In Pink Sets Me Free

Drawing in pink is a direct quote from Alex concerning how he draws in his sketchbook. Alex has got to be the most relaxed student I’ve ever had. Having this relaxed attitude definitely helps him when he is drawing. His drawing’s look so care free. He seems to draw them with such ease.

It’s super important when drawing that you don’t put too much pressure on yourself to draw for the museum wall. Draw instead for the waste paper basket and you too will have that care free attitude when it comes to drawing. I think that it’s so very important to be relaxed when sketching. You just cannot force out great drawing’s, they have to come out in a natural way. Alex has got that natural way.

Saori’s Sketchbook Drawings Part Two

Saori is by far one of the hardest working students I’ve ever had the pleasure to teach. She is truly devoted to developing her craft of drawing. Saori is currently enrolled in the Animation department over at the School of Visual Arts in Manhattan New York.

Saori definitely makes the most of each class as well as each homework assignment. She never gets bored with any of the assignments. That is a skill that every student must have. Not getting bored with sometimes boring assignments. It’s a must to learn how to make boring fundamentals exciting. I would say Saori has become a master at taking dull subjects and injecting life and excitement into them.

So as an artist show your creativity by injecting your personality into the mundane. That is how you will shine.

Krazy Karina’s Sketchbook

It’s been a few weeks since I’ve filmed a sketchbook video. Our Fall semester is now over at the School of Visual Arts. So when I reviewed Karina’s sketchbook I knew I had to ask her if she would be up for a sketchbook video. Lucky for us she agreed.

Karina is very talented and has total discipline. That is a lethal combination. Her work is a joy to look at because it’s so fresh. Karina is not worried about making mistakes, she just puts the pen to paper. Add a little Krazy into the mix and..

Killer Tina’s Sketchbook

Tina is currently enrolled in my foundation class at the School of Visual Arts. Tina is a sketchbook killer. She cranks out these really impressive drawings with ease. Tina took a year to attend a local community college. She then decided to apply to SVA. I’m the lucky teacher who has the joy of watching Tina draw in class. Her work ethic is over the top. I can see Tina doing whatever she sets her mind to.

I asked Tina how did she get so good at drawing? She said that she was influenced a lot by her mom who was herself an artist. She was always surrounded by comic books. Tina also said that she had some great teachers along the way. So the take away for me from this sketchbook video was surround yourself with great artwork on a daily basis. Be inspired then you do the inspiring!!

Chris Anne’s Super Duper Creative Sketchbook

Chris Anne is a student enrolled in my Friday foundation drawing class at the School of Visual Arts. Chris Anne has got to be one of the most creative people I’ve ever had the privilege to teach. Every time I give a special project in class Chris Anne always takes the assignment to a place I never thought it would go. I hope you enjoy looking at her drawings as much as I do.

Most Overlooked Aspect In Portrait Drawing

This drawing tip of the week is all about what artists overlook the most when drawing a portrait. Paying attention to this item will help you to get a likeness when portrait drawing.

A couple of weeks a go I added step 25 titled Symmetrical Versus Non – Symmetrical. At the end of the step I asked members if they wanted me to push the drawing. I got a resounding yes. As I was working on the drawing I thought it would make for a great drawing tip of the week. The ear is the most overlooked item when trying to draw a likeness. Use the ear as a measuring tool. When I teach at the School of Visual Arts I have the students complete five minute head gestures while utilizing the ear as a measuring tool. Now get to drawing some portraits!!
