I’ve been hearing all about the crazy weather Melbourne’s been having over the past week from friends but up until now, I didn’t really realize how bad it all was. Josh sends over this short video of a hail storm turning into an insane flash flood in Melbourne on March 6, 2010. I had no idea weather could change so drastically in such a short amount of time.

I was reading Joshua Longbrake’s blog and realized that I too want a neon sign in my bedroom. Something about the hum of a neon sign sounds soothing enough to put me to sleep every night. :)

Packaging World posted these fabulous Jaqk Cards this week made by Lab Partners in San Francisco. As a recreational playing card collector, I would love to get my hands on these. Aren’t they beautiful?

I’ve always wondered how many people have died in the history of the world and now I Love Charts has answered my question with this infographic. Apparently, about 106 billion souls.

When I was first introduced to Bruce Gilden’s street photography years ago, I remember thinking about how it must be incredibly hard to do what he does so well. His images show him really up-in-your-face with his camera and that’s particularly why I find his images so engaging. It makes me think about what can be pulled off on the streets of New York and how I really shouldn’t care about what people think about being photographed in public. I should just go ahead and do it. Watching this video from WNYC of Bruce Gilden going about his work is inspiring. I hope to one day be as bold as he when photographing strangers on the street.

On February 18, 2010, photographer Rob Kroenert took this amazing photo of Horsetail Falls at Yosemite National Park. The falls are in a unique place during this time of year because the rays from the sunset shine on the falls and make them look like flowing lave. [via]

Rob says:

Horsetail Falls is a small seasonal waterfall that only appears in late winter and early spring. It flows over the east side of El Capitan, so as a backdrop it has one of the most impressive walls of granite in the entire park. Then – only for part of February, and only when the sky is clear – the very last sunrays of the day selectively linger on the falls, lighting it up with a golden glow that makes the water look like lava.

Good news coming out of Ford today as they’ve just announced the 2012 Ford Police Interceptor, a brand-new vehicle designed for police forces nationwide that will eventually replace the current Crown Victoria models seen on many law enforcement fleets.

The new vehicles are more efficient and eco-friendly to the environment than the current Crown Victoria models on the road and are also available in slightly more powerful varieties than the current cars from Ford. Photos of North Korean leader Kim Jong-Il always amuse me. He always seems to be shown actively participating in his country’s industrial factories with one of his trusty advisors carefully pointing to or gesturing towards an item as if to say “Look at this here. We make this in our country. We are Koreans and we make great things and our people are happy!”.
