Rather, you will most likely find here observations of and opinions about the designed world.

Some posts will deal with mainstream design; however, many, if not most, posts will be about what might best be described as THE FRINGE. Hey, you can read about mainstream stuff everywhere.

Let's be clear about what is encompassed by DESIGN. I consider things like new "social media" phenomena like Klout (a new scoring system for people to compare their self-worth, like income, IQ, credit score, etc.). I am still not sure about whether Kloutis a good thing or the "Seventh Sign"! In the spirit of full-disclosure, I do the Klout thing, mostly to figure out how hard it is to become an "Influencer" with a system that ranks Justin Bieber as more influential than President Obama.

Similarly, I will be commenting on the frenzied quest for 500+ followers and collecting endorsement trophies among LinkedIn Members.

Of course, DESIGN has to do with technology toys and other objects of desire, fashion, and so forth. You will find mostly three kinds of commentary about designed objects:

Serious articles dealing with serious topics like ethics and unanticipated consequences (a.k.a. "blow-back"). There will be a lot about "the patent wars", the new tacticsof patent extortionists, who are wasting millions of dollars of taxpayer money on questionable patent infringement litigation in the U.S. District Courts.

Fun and/or informative articles, such as how to build your own ocean rowing boat, how to build a car from scratch (not a "Kit car") and how to make a plausible "sample-based" synthesizer setup with an iPad, some inexpensive MIDI controllers, an interface hub and a lot of patch cords.

The third type of post could be the most prevalent. This would be what I call "toys for bad girls and boys." Yeah, this is where you will find articles about potato cannons, catapults and trebuchets, and really LOUD but "safe" firework alternatives like carbide cannons (manufactured AND DIY), naval salute cannons that fire 8-gauge shotgun blank shells and the like. Oh, "Steampunk" design will not be forgotten.

I suppose that this is the first post of the new blog. Stay tuned for a lot more...I have to get that Klout score up, you know :-)
