The Miami Dolphins have promoted linebacker J.D. Folsom from the practice squad to the active roster. They cut linebacker William Kershaw today to create a roster for Folsom. Folsom was originally a seventh round draft choice of the Dolphins in the draft this spring and was released prior to the start of the regular season on Sept. 5 and was signed to the practice squad two days later.

Crowder practiced Wednesday in preparation for the Dolphins’ game Sunday at New England. He sat out practice last week and the team’s victory over the New York Jets. Crowder is fifth on the team with 22 tackles.

New York Jets linebacker Bart Scott had some obviously sarcastic comments regarding the Miami Dolphins after losing Sunday 30-25. When asked about losing after dominating the game statistically Scott said, “It’s tough. They’re a great team. They’ll probably contend for the Super Bowl. They have a tremendous offense – great running backs, a great quarterback, a great tight end. They are stacked across the board. I’m serious. They are great.” Scott was then asked about this loss being a humbling experience and he offered this comment up, “Like I said, they have a great team. They have a tremendous offense and they showed it today. They are Super Bowl contenders and they will probably take it all the way.” Judging by his comments, Scott obviously wasn’t very humbled today.

One thing can be said for the Miami Dolphins: they find different ways to score on any given week. During Sunday’s game against the New York Jets, despite amassing (and I use the word amassing loosely) 104 total yards of offense. That in and of itself tells you that they found ways to score other than at the offensive side of the ball.

By and large, the Dolphins’ defense and special teams provided most of the scoring that they would need, with wide receiver Ted Ginn, Jr. returning a pair of kickoffs for touchdowns as Miami nipped New York 30-25 at Giants Stadium.

The first half was, depending on your point of view, lacking offense by both teams (probably stating the obvious) or shutdown defense (maybe, maybe not). In any event, the only scoring that took place was bvy way of the foot as field goals were converted by Jay Feely and Dan Carpenter, which would allow Miami and New York to go to their respective locker rooms with a 3-3 tie.

Business picked up markedly in the third quarter as Feely booted a 55-yard FG whihc gave New York a 6-3 edge; the Dolphins would respond immediately as Ginn, Jr. returned the ensuing kickoff 100 yards for a score, giving Miami back the lead at 10-6. He would do the same exact thing about 7 minutes later, this time returning the kickoff 101 yards for a touchdown, extending Miami’s lead to 24-13.

The Jets would strike back with 1:35 left in the period as QB Mark Sanchez connected with Braylon Edwards on a 19-yard TD pass, getting New York to within 24-19 going into the fourth quarter. The Dolphins would have their best offensive display on a drive that covered 13 plays and 67 yards, capped by a touchdown pass from Chad Henne to tight end Joey Haynos, extending Miami’s lead to 30-19 with 8:48 left in the game.

A 16-yard TD pass from Sanchez to Dustin Keller would close the gap to 30-25 (the two-point conversion failed). A fourth-and-13 play for the Jets failed as Sanchez fired an incomplete pass to Keller in the end zone, sealing the win for Miami.

The Dolphins’ passing – or lack thereof – was led by Henne who went 12-of-21 for 115 yards with a TD while Sanchez had the better stats, going 20-of-35 for 265 yards and a pair of passing scores as well as a rushing TD. Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams rushed for 27 yards, leading Miami while Thomas Jones led the Jets’ rushing attack with 102 yards while catching a pass for 28 yards.

Williams led all Miami receivers with 2 receptions for 41 yards while Keller led all New York receivers as he caught 8 passes for 76 yards and a TD; Edwards caught 4 for 74 yards and a score while Jerricho Cotchery caught 3 passes for 70 yards.

Miami (3-4) plays again next Sunday in a key matchup when they visit Foxborough, MA to take on the New England Patriots while New York (4-4) goes into their bye week and do not play again until Sunday, November 15 when they host the Jacksonville Jaguars.

In a move that could cause a considerable shake up at the wide receiver position, coach Tony Sparano sent a clear message to his corps of pass catchers Wednesday when he essentially reopened the competition for the team’s starting spots. “Just making sure everyone is on their toes,” Sparano said. Most notably, wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. did not work with the first- or second-team offense during the initial 30 minutes of practice that is open to the media. Those limited snaps were assigned to Davone Bess, Greg Camarillo and rookie Brian Hartline. Sparano, making his most candid public comments about Ginn to this point, emphasized that it does not mean Ginn has lost his starting job — yet. “We’ll see where we are at the end of the week,” said Sparano when asked specifically if Ginn has lost his No. 1 role. “Right now, I’m just upsetting the whole apple cart to see how this thing goes. So I don’t want to say yes, and I don’t want to say no. “We just went in there and said, `Let’s let it fly.’ We have five guys there that are playing this position. Let’s let them all work and see where we go from there.”

If you want a microcosm for this demoralizing defeat, let Tony Sparano off the hook for a second and look to a more proper goat: Ted Ginn Jr. Sparano’s mistake was a one-time thing that cost Miami momentum but not the game. Ginn is the gift that keeps on not giving. He is the 2007 Cam Cameron-regime draft misstep that continues to haunt and hurt Miami. It is time for Sparano and Bill Parcells to pull the plug on Ginn and at least admit he does not deserve the starting job he continues to be handed and must earn it back.

When Sparano makes a mistake, he wants to set the example and own up to it. On the final play of the first half of Sunday’s 46-34 loss to New Orleans, Sparano knows he made a judgment error to give the high-scoring Saints seven points, rather than three. “I have to take ownership of the situation that happened at the end of the half yesterday,” Sparano said Monday. “I always have the power of trump and I did not do that. I should have lived with what was out on the field in that situation. “So it was a bad decision on my part.” It turned out to be a game-turning play, especially when the Saints came up with a pick-six in the third play of the second half to cut the lead to 24-17. “You would like to think they go in there without a touchdown and you’d like to think they’re pretty much done,” linebacker Reggie Torbor said Sunday. “Stick a fork in them. “Now they have hope.”
