Posted 22nd February 2013 – Tracy is desperate to find her lost dog, Levi. Please keep a watch for him.

“My beloved Mini Australian Shepherd, LEVI, has been MISSING since December 18!

$2,000 REWARD for his safe return. No Questions Asked!”

My pup has been missing for 10 weeks now. He may be with a transient guy, heading up or down the island. if you would be willing to share this on FB or any other means to spread the word, and get more eyes watching, we would be HUGELY appreciative! we really need to get our boy back. all details are below. THANK YOU FOR YOUR HELP.” – Sincerely, Tracy

Levi was lost in Vancouver, early sightings were with a transient man. I just got a call yesterday that someone saw a transient guy in Duncan on Tues. with a blue Merle Aussie. We don’t know if it is him but are asking people to PLEASE keep their eyes open!

If he is traveling, i need to find him before he gets too far!!! We don’t know if it is our dog with him, WE NEED A PICTURE TO KNOW FOR SURE!!! Please keep your eyes peeled!

IF YOU THINK YOU SEE HIM TAKE A PICTURE! I need to know if it is my Levi.

Approach the person he is with, everyone loves to say hi to a cute dog. Is he Small, 12-14″ high body, Head maybe to your knee ~18″? Look at his face, Levi’s markings are very unique! Does he have 2 Brown Eyes? Does he have a Full curly whitish tail? Is he Mostly Black and White?

Then CALL 778-847-7045 IMMEDIATELY! Put this number in your phone! Tracy Myerson and Anita Komonski are his moms.

Levi is VERY SHY! so if he is with someone do NOT just grab him and take him, he will run and bad things will happen. Just call me RIGHT AWAY! We will get the reward to you after he is safely back with us, we PROMISE!

He is Small, 17 lbs, has 2 Brown Eyes and a Full Fluffy Tail (white-ish color). He is a Blue Merle, which means mottled Black and White, with Brown only in his face and back legs. He is crossed with something from the Spitz family, maybe a Pom? He is micro-chipped and registered with 24 hour Pet Watch

If you can post this on your facebook page and print out to post in your office too, that would be hugely appreciated!

You can also Re-Share the original Levi Posting on your work or personal page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Jett-Grrl-Bike-Studio/122554664480679, and ASK YOUR FRIENDS TO RE-SHARE! We need more eyes! And Ask friends to join the Find Levi group too: http://www.facebook.com/groups/136088879892916/PLEASE. PLEASE, I need to get my boy back.

THANKS TO ALL OF YOU FOR LOOKING FOR HIM. I AM FOREVER IN YOUR DEBT”

Bobby is a non-shedding, 6-year-old Bichon/Shih Tzu mix who is hoping to find a new forever home for the New Year.

Bobby was adopted by Carol from the SPCA about three years ago and finds that he has an issue with dogs he doesn’t know or strangers coming into the home.

Carol shares her home with her daughter who is due to give birth to her first baby in January and Mom is worried that Bobby may not be able to be trusted with a baby.

Carol says he would be the perfect dog for an older couple who don’t have other pets and don’t have a lot of unknown people visiting as he is a loving dog in the home.

Bobby requires e a strong, consistent pack leader who can show him that he doesn’t need to show aggression toward other dogs or visitors coming to the home. If this is you, Bobby could be your perfect companion.

Please contact Carol at: vcbarker2@hotmail.com OR asia@k-9superheroes.com if you would like more information, and please pass on Bobby’s information to all your dog loving friends so we can help find Bobby a new home for the New Year.

Good News! Doogie has moved to the mountains in Canmore, Alberta where he will soon have a home much better suited to who he is and what he needs to be happy.

This is Doogie, a 95-pound, 20-month-old Estrela Mountain Dog who was imported from a breeder in North Carolina.

Doogie is looking for a new, free to the right owner in a good home because his owner has recently suffered a serious accident which may permanently prevent the family from being to able to provide Doogie with the physical exercise or mental stimulation a young, energetic dog requires.

First, a brief breed overview:

The Estrela is a natural herding and guarding dog who needs lots of space to run and a dedicated human who is already a strong pack leader and who has the time to devote to being with him every day.

The Estrela is a beautiful, long-haired, double coated and very unique large breed dog you won’t often see locally because this ancient breed originated in the Estrela Mountains of Portugal where it has been used for centuries for guarding herds and homesteads. Today the Estrela is still a working dog, guarding flocks and also being used as border patrol or police dogs.

For an experienced leader who knows how to treat a young, strong, energetic dog with respect and compassion, and spend lots of time with him in the right situation, Doogie will make a wonderfully alert and loyal companion.

Doogie is very affectionate in the home and gets along well with family members and other pets who are part of the family. He has already received considerable training to help him be less reactive to strange dogs or new situations he may encounter when out walking on leash. Perhaps you can provide the ongoing guidance Doogie needs.

Doogie needs a strong, confident leader, and if you think you are the right person to continue Doogie’s training and provide him with lots of exercise and plenty of interesting and stimulating circumstances so that he’s not bored, in a loving forever home that will always be well guarded, please contact Ray or Laurie for further information at 250-592-6614 or send an e-mail to asia@k-9superheroes.com today.

Summer means HOT dogs, and I’m not talking about the kind that you put in a bun with mustard and relish.

If you take your dog with you when you’re out and about in your vehicle, now is the time to remember that if you cannot take your dog out of the vehicle when you arrive at your destination, or you cannot park in a cool, underground or shaded parking area, better to leave your best fur friend at home.

The following is a very eye opening report from the Department of Geosciences, San Francisco State University that graphically shows us just how hot it can get inside a parked vehicle in a very short period of time, even with the windows cracked.

“Every year, hundreds of pets die from heat exhaustion because they are left in parked vehicles. We’ve heard the excuses: “Oh, it will just be a few minutes while I go into the store,” or “But I cracked the windows…” These excuses don’t amount to much if your pet becomes seriously ill or dies from being left in a vehicle.
The temperature inside your vehicle can rise almost 20º F in just 10 minutes. In 20 minutes, it can rise almost 30º F…and the longer you wait, the higher it goes. At 60 minutes, the temperature in your vehicle can be more than 40 degrees higher than the outside temperature. Even on a 70-degree day, that’s 110 degrees inside your vehicle!

Your vehicle can quickly reach a temperature that puts your pet at risk of serious illness and even death, even on a day that doesn’t seem hot to you. And cracking the windows makes no difference.

Want numbers? An independent study1 showed that the interior temperature of vehicles parked in outside temperatures ranging from 72 to 96º F rose steadily as time increased.”

Please be kind to your fur friends this summer and make sure that you don’t leave them in your vehicles even for a hot minute.

21Jun12: PLEASE HELP SEYMOUR who was rescued from a Chilliwack puppy mill.

“GVAC just took in a dog from the Chilliwack Animal Control that was slated to be euthanized. He was abandoned by a puppy mill operation and needs full dental, neutering and a wheelchair. He is very playful, happy and everything together will most likely cost $1000.

Here is a little more info from his foster mom, Melissa:

I just wanted to share a couple of pics with you of Seymour, one of our Pekingese dogs from the puppy mill in Chilliwack. As you may know, he’s in really rough shape – he has spinal compression that causes his back end to wobble and fall (Joe, my husband, is working on gathering supplies for a doggy cart/wheelchair for him).

His teeth are in really rough shape. And he was filthy and matted and his nails were so long they had curled around towards his pads. He shakes when he’s nervous, and tenses incredibly when picked up (I really wonder what his life was like before coming to us).

That being said, he’s the happiest dog. He kind of shuffles around on the floor like a seal, and follows us around everywhere. He plays with Barkley and has even worn him out (Barkley is our 10 month old pug/shih tzu).

Seymour is very affectionate and loves to kiss and cuddle. Seymour sleeps in a plush doggy bed on the floor on my side of the bed, next to Barkley’s crate. Today, he played with one of Barkley’s toys and it was SO cute. Our place is all laminate/lino (on the “pet floor” anyway), but we got a cheap area rug for Seymour so he could get a bit more purchase on the floor. We went to the groomer today and he was shaved down – as you can see from the pictures, it made a HUGE difference.

We’re off to the vet on Sunday to make sure his arthritis pain is under control, and we’ll see how the vet feels about putting him under to take care of his teeth. We have already raised $100 via ChipIn on Facebook towards Seymour’s care.”

The link to the GVAC ChipIn page for Seymour: http://animalcrusaders.chipin.com/wheelchair-4-rescue-dog

The GVAC is asking all animal lovers for help in the form of small monetary donations toward this little pekingese’s care? If lots of people just donate a little, adorable little Seymour can be well taken care of.

If you can help Seymour with either a small or larger donation, please contact Delana Steele (see below), and tell her that Boris sent you.

Many common foods that we cook with every day are not good for our furry friends, some of them fatal, while others cause terrible side effects. Every year many of our fur friends suffer because us humans are not careful enough to keep these foods out of reach of our curious and hungry friends.

“Xylitol
Xylitol is an artificial sweetener found in products such as gum, candy, mints, toothpaste, and mouthwash. Xylitol is harmful to dogs because it causes a sudden release of insulin in the body that leads to hypoglycemia (low blood sugar). Xylitol can also cause liver damage in dogs. Within 30 minutes after eating, the dog may vomit, be lethargic (tired), and/or be uncoordinated. However, some signs of toxicity can also be delayed for hours or even for a few days. Xylitol toxicity in dogs can be fatal if untreated. It is unknown whether xylitol is toxic to cats.

Chocolate, Coffee, and Caffeine
Chocolate contains theobromine, a chemical that is toxic to dogs in large enough quantities. Chocolate also contains caffeine, which is found in coffee, tea, and certain soft drinks. Different types of chocolate contain different amounts of theobromine and caffeine. For example, dark chocolate and baking chocolate contain more of these compounds than milk chocolate does, so a dog would need to eat more milk chocolate in order to become ill. However, even a few ounces of chocolate can be enough to cause illness in a small dog, so no amount or type of chocolate should be considered “safe” for a dog to eat. Chocolate toxicity can cause vomiting, diarrhea, rapid or irregular heart rate, restlessness, muscle tremors, and seizures. Death can occur within 24 hours of ingestion.

Grapes and Raisins
Grapes and Raisins can cause acute (sudden) kidney failure in cats and dogs. It is unknown what the toxic agent is in these fruits. However, clinical signs can occur within 24 hours of eating and include vomiting, diarrhea, and lethargy (tiredness). Other signs of illness relate to the eventual shutdown of kidney functioning.

Avocados
The Avocado tree leaves, pits, fruit, and plant bark are likely all toxic. Clinical signs in dogs and cats include vomiting and diarrhea.

Garlic and Onions
Garlic and Onions contain chemicals that damage red blood cells in cats and dogs. Affected red blood cells can rupture or lose their ability to carry oxygen effectively. Cooking these foods does not reduce their potential toxicity. Fresh, cooked, and/or powdered garlic and/or onions are commonly found in baby food, which is sometimes given to animals when they are sick, so be sure to read food labels carefully.

Macadamia Nuts
Macadamia Nuts are common in candies and chocolates. The mechanism of macadamia nut toxicity is not well understood, but clinical signs in dogs include depression, weakness, vomiting, tremors, joint pain, and pale gums. Clinical signs can occur within 12 hours after eating. In some cases, signs can resolve without treatment in 24 to 48 hours, however, patient monitoring is strongly recommended.” – VetStreet.com

Nobody wants their best fur friend to suffer like this, so make sure that none of these foods are left around where your dog or cat might accidentally gain access to them.

You will love these unique, one of a kind pendants that Angela can make for you just from a picture of your favourite fur friend, or anything else you’d like in a unique pendant.

Angela Zissoff & her husband, Chris Goodman were both born and educated in Toronto, Ontario. Angela studied Printing Technology and Graphic Design at George Brown College and later attended University of Toronto in the Fine Arts Studio Program. Chris graduated from Ontario College of Art during that time.

When Angela and Chris were married, Chris had already been working in the family business, The Russell C. Goodman Stained Glass Studio, for 20 years. As soon as they were married, Angela became a stained glass apprentice with Chris and his father, Russell.

Chris & Angela continue the 58 year old family guild today which has been renamed the Goodman Zissoff Stained Glass Studio and their commissioned works still take them across the country, creating works for various venues such as residential, institutional, religious, and government.

Fused glass pendants have also become a passion. Working with miniature size elements; stacking, gluing, and fusing, has become a nice contrast to the larger scale Chris & Angela are used to. There is still a strong desire to create landscape imagery or symbols that are meaningful in the pendants although the artist’s whims are revealed in the more abstract pieces.

GZ Pendants Pendants is an offshoot of Goodman Zissoff Studio where Angela and her husband work with fusible glass for both their large panels and their unique pendants.

All imagery is hand painted and fired in the glass permanently and then the pendants are strung with a black, nylon, adjustable cord. Simply by sliding each knot forward or back, this enables the pendant to be worn like a choker or longer.
