Historical baby dolls

Ive been tinkering around with some dolls made to look vintage. I had found some pretty vintage material and that is what made me want to do a few of these. Sometimes it takes finding fabric to give me a spark to create something.

This one I really liked how she turned out. She is so sweet. I did not sculpt legs on her and just left her bundled in a long bunting gown. However, I think the next one I will do legs and still make them with a long gown. This one has poseable arms.

I am also doing more Izannah dolls because I have gotten requests for these. They really are a joy to work on. Something about this time of year makes me want to work more with fabrics, sewing, and stuffing doll body parts. So I dug out all my Izannah goodies and trying to get a few of these done.

With holidays here its a little busy so my time to create may be limited until after the new year.

Christmas Morning Babies

I cannot believe its December already. I am a little late in getting my holiday pieces done. But hurry up.....because I managed to get these two cuties done over this weekend and they are in my shop right now!

These are my 'Christmas Morning' babies. I am going to do a couple more for all those last minute gift shoppers!

I have listed them in my Etsy, come see these adorable little bundles! The jingle bells adorned on this little outfits are so cute! You can even attach a ribbon to them for ornaments on your tree.

I have one that is sleeping and another with open eyes. Only the heads are sculpted and the bodies are soft stuffing over armature. They are bundled in my own hand dyed fabrics. Adorned with lots of sparkly fibers and ribbons.

Dead Fairy "Zelda"

Oh my, she is a creepy one. The ice blue on her, makes her feel bone chilling cold and creepy!

She is up to no good this one. Do not leave her in a dark room alone. She is sure to cause trouble. With the spooky season nearing she is anxious and ready to cause a whole lot of mischief!

She is sculpted of air dry clay, sanded, and then costumed perfectly for the spooky season.

Her hair is 2nd grade mohair which makes her hairdo all the more spooky! Nice and wooly with tight little curls.

"Moana" Dead Fairy Spooky Dark Art

I have just completed another spooky doll; a Dead Fairy. She is named Moana. Oh boy does she ever moan! Shrieking, agonizing moans. Perfect for the spooky season!

She is sculpted of air dry paper clay. Sanded, painted and then outfitted with silk fabric, ghoulish mohair and fabulous spooky wings!

Look for more of these fatally lovely ladies. I have a few more ideas in my mind for them and each one gets little bit more elaborate. I wanted them to be simple, however, there is so much spooky ghoulish stuff to add to these sexy gals!

I am getting anxious for the spooky season and so are these girls!

Dead Fairies

Well, it is almost that time of year for spooky things all around. I have been motivated to try something different. I love the fairy genre of art. Only these are not sweet and soft fairies..... they are spooky and sinister!

They are sneaky little ladies capable of intense mischief. Do not leave them alone in a dark room! Halloween is when they come alive! I would not trust these little ladies at all. HA!

I am going to be doing a few more of these lovely and creepy ladies! I think they are kinda sexy for the dead look!

These two will be up for sale in a a local shop near me. I will try to put some in my Etsy Shop as well. Depending on how fast I can get busy. But these gals have me energized! Especially for the spooky season ahead!

These are air dry clay sculptures entirely sculpted by hand.

OOAK baby Anna

Baby Anna is now in my Etsy Shop. I decided to do a human baby this time. No wings, no pointy ears.

She is swaddled in hand dyed fabrics and wrapped in beautiful fibers. She comes with her cradle. I will probably do a few more human babies before getting back to the fantasy genre.

Hopefully she will find a new home soon!

Norah Baby Fairy

Wow. I have just been inundated this summer with life stuff. Took a two week vacation, got the case of the lazies too for little while. I was left with little time to be at my art table. However, I am finally winding down with life's tasks so that I can dedicate some time to my art again.

I needed a swift kick in the can to get me back my art table!

The last couple weeks I have spent working on this little one. These red hair fairies are just so majestic. I am low on red hair supplies but think I can get a few more fairies done with what is left.

This red haired blue eyed beauty is seated on a grassy mound accented with flowers. This little one has totally motivated me to do perhaps a series of fairies this size. She is about 4-5 inches. Her age is approximately 3 years old.

Hope everyone is doing well! Hope to get back to my blog more regularly as well. Geesh, sometimes I think I need to move my studio to a deserted island. I would get so much art done there. Ahhh....I can dream can't I?

Her name is "Fallyn Grace" an OOAK Baby Fairy

Meet "Fallyn Grace", a tiny little baby fairy. She measures about 3 inches.

I have been making quite a few little baby fairies. I must admit they are giving me lots of smiles. So for now, this seems to be my focus. Which fits in nicely with my busy schedule these days.

I have just finished her. Her name is Fallyn Grace. Fallyn is pronounced like Fallon. With such beautiful red hair, I felt she justly deserved, not only a first name, but a middle name! She has an Irish look about her which I adore.

She comes with a woodland cradle. Her colors are soft chartreuse accented with purple. Her red hair looks so beautiful with these colors. She is so soft and wispy from every angle.

Wee little baby fairies!

I have been busy creating! I have tethered myself to my art studio. It has not been easy. Life stuff seems to worm its way into my art time. How can I organize my life so there is nothing to do BUT art!! :-)

I have just completed two little wee baby fairies. I am holding on to these for a little while so as to make some companions. I need their inspiration and they want some little friends and sisters. I really enjoy the babies. I keep getting drawn back to creating these little wee ones. They make me smile.

I created Marigold first, she is in yellow. Then her sister, Lily, was created in pink. I am working on a third perhaps in blue or green. They will all have names of flowers.

OOAK Fairy "Nymeria"

What a beautiful day it was today. I tend to want to spend much time outdoors enjoying the sunshine. I do most of my art work after dinner and into the wee hours of the night. This way I can enjoy the sunshine and get things done during the day. And while everyone sleeps I am up playing with fairies. ;-)

Here is my latest little fairy creation! She is a sleeping fairy and rests atop a handmade pink silk pillow.

Purple was my mood for this fairy. With the recent Royal Wedding, I couldn't help but feel in the mood for purple. Purple is royalty. And all little girls love purple. I believe when I was young it was my favorite color.

Her name is Nymeria (prounounced "Ny-meer-ia"). She measures about 6 1/2 inches.

Her dress is hand dyed silk accented with sterling silver glitters and pretty feather weight ribbons. Her shoes are also dusted with sterling silver glitter. It i so hard not to get carried away with this sterling glitter. I just love it. It shines like white gold.

Snow Snow! Winter Fairy

WOW, with all the snow everywhere I sort of got jealous. So I decided to make a Winter fairy. No, there is no snow where I am, but I really love that icy blue chill for fairies! Besides, it makes me feel like snow here... well, sorta....

I have been so busy in my personal life so she took a bit of time to complete. She is a 5" fairy.

She is posed on a wood stump that I found in the desert. I added a bit of stain to it and then varnish. She is removable from her the base.

She is dressed in sweet icy blue accented with sterling silver glitters and blue glitters.

Desert Rain Fairy

She is finished. I just have one more photo to take of her on her base. The base is sculpted of air dry clay and just big enough to comfortably display her. It is painted a beautiful kiwi green and slightly sparkled.

I have decided she is a Desert Rain Fairy portraying the beautiful soft colors of the magnificent flowers that appear in the desert after a rain. She is 5" fairy sculpted of polymer clay.

I'm BAAAAACK!!!!

Wow!!! It has been a VERY long since I have been here at my blog. These past 6 months have been very hectic to say the least. Ive moved! Moving is awful! Especially when you are an artist with lots of art supplies! After arriving here I had a small room to work in and it did not nearly accomodate my artistic freedom. But it was temporary until we found a permanent landing spot!

I managed a few pieces, however, I finally gave it a rest until I can become more permanently settled. It was just too frustrating to keep digging into boxes looking for what I needed in order to complete a project.

This November I finally settled in to a permanent spot and my new art studio is ready. I have all my supplies organized and at my fingertips again! Yeah!!! I can create again!! I can sculpt!! I can paint!! I can play with dolls again!!!! :-)

I missed my art tremendously during this long break. I am jumping back in with lots of great energy and lots of ideas! I managed to create my first piece in my art studio ... despite this hectic holiday season. She's a fairy! She is almost done but here's a quick peek at her.

Her base is not yet completed and I am currently working on her wings. It is possible, in the next day or so, I will have her completed. So check back for updated photos of her! She's so sweet at only 5" and a delicate sculpture.

Ive missed everyone! I am so happy to back here! Hopefully ya'll did not forget about me. :-( I have lots to catch up on with my own artwork as well as everyone's blogs!

"Bridgette" Izannah Walker Mini

I have finished my last small mini Izannah for a few weeks. I am waiting on fabric and then I will hit the sewing machine for a few days to get more bodies sewn up.

She has on a cute little bonnet. She is in a dark navy blue dress.
I love this color on her. I am anxious to try one in black dress.

Rosie LARGE Izannah Walker Inspired Doll

Oh my goodness; I am so behind lately. So much to do and I just can't seem to get to my blog as often as I would like. I have not made my rounds to my favorite blogs either. Summer is winding down and hopefully I can find a more suitable schedule to allow for my online blog work.

I have recently finished another large Izannah Walker inspired doll. She is 17". Her name is Rosie.

This doll was made using Dixie Redmond's pattern. I took her wonderful class last year and really enjoy doing these dolls.

I have only two more large bodies sewn up. I am all out of my bodies for the tiny 7" dolls. I will be spending the next week or so at the sewing machine sewing up more bodies. I do have another 7" doll I just finished, I will do a blog post on her in a few days.

Rosie's dress is wonderful reproduction civil war fabric in a yellow print. She has pantaloons, chemise, petticoat and then her dress with bodice. All her clothes are removeable.

LARGE Izannah Walker Doll

I have finally finished a 17" Izannah Walker inspired doll. She was a long time in the making. She is a soft body cloth doll with sculpted head/shoulders.

Lately I have been making the small 7" dolls and after finishing Molly I really appreciate the size difference! I love both sizes and really enjoy alternating between the small and the large ones.

The creation and assemblage of these dolls maintains many similar construction qualities of an original Izannah Walker doll. No corners were cut on her creation and she includes a second skin covering under her clothes. She is stuffed with pure wool.

Her clothes consist of a chemise, pantaloons, petticoat with ruffled edge, bodice with full skirt.

"Maggie" Izannah Walker Inspired Doll 7"

This one is a little different than my others and I had decided to sculpt her hair.

I only have one more small body sewn up and ready to go! So after that one I will take some time to sew up more bodies. So any new ones will be not forthcoming for a few weeks while I hit the sewing the machine!

Her dress is cotton with a netting over skirt. The netting has also been added to her sleeves. I love this netting and I dyed it for a more vintage look.

She has vintage lace trim in delicate rose color weaving. I have had this trim for so long waiting for the right doll deserving of it. She was the one!

Her little black boots are sculpted and then painted with bow design.

"Anna" Izannah Walker Inspired Doll

Anna's dress was not easy to sew. This material is a cotton, but it is very very soft. The weave made it a challenge to do her clothes. This is one of the new fabrics I found in the quilt shop. It was worth the struggling because its just so soft.

I decided to give her a beautiful glass beaded necklace.

Her hair is a warm honey brown and very golden. On my next Izannah I may try to sculpt the hair.

Her black boots are painted in the bow and lace design.

Izannah Walker Inspired Doll 7" Bianca

I finally had some time to visit the quilt shope located a few miles from my house. It is amazing! They have a wonderful selection of many civil war type prints that will be wonderful for my Izannah dolls. I picked up quite a few prints and can't wait to turn out more Izannah's using this yummy fabric.

This latest Izannah's dress is fabric from my existing stash. I was waiting for a perfect Izannah that would go well with this fabric. Very soft colored strips of mauve, green with little bit of pale yellow/gold.

Her little boots are a soft mossy green color and her pantaloons are rosey pink to match her dress.

Izannah Walker Inspired Doll 7" Carla

For now I am done with the clay miniature houses. I am thinking over some ideas for some holiday miniature houses. Maybe some gingerbread houses or little christmas shops. How fun! Maybe small snow village house.

So onward it is and back to my dolls! I felt the desire to do another Izannah Walker inspired doll. This one is a 7" doll of cloth and clay. Her face is sculpted of clay and her body is a sewn soft body. Her little boots are also sculpted of clay.

Her dress is a beautiful powder blue. I always wait until the painting is all done on the doll before I pick the outfit patter. Sometimes the coloring of the skin tone of the doll determines the best pattern and color for her dress. I was so pleased with the powder blue print she is wearing.

Her pantaloons are lightweight tissue linen. She comes a with handmade custom hand tag noting her name "Carla".

I love to distress the dress for that antique feeling. She is one of my favorites thus far. I just love the blue on her.

I am working on another mini. I still have a large 18" Izannah in the works as well. Life has been keeping me busy so getting to my art table has been somewhat of a challenge lately. Hopefully this will slow down and I can find more time to sit and work on my art.

Wellington Manor. This House was hard!

I finally squeezed out some more energy and patience to finish another polymer clay village house. This one was real tedious. The stone was not easy. Ohhh and whew, lots of windows on this one. Those window panes sure gave me pains. HA!

It is a brown stone house with blue shutters. Those little additions are also tricky. The addition on this one is on the front of the house.

After antiquing I seal it with spray. When that is dry, I then put some sculpey glaze in the windows. It gives the windows a real nice glass-like appearance.

The part I have most fun with on these houses, is when its time to landscape! It's like gardening and you can design it however you like.

My collection is growing. You can visit FlickR Photos to see all the houses I have completed thus far. I am undecided if I will sell any of them. I have to think about that for awhile. There is so much work that goes into them and I am getting attached to them. I do have some more ideas and themes for additional houses that will most likely end up in my Etsy Shop at some point.

Another Village House

This is my fourth house. I think I must take a short break for awhile. They are tedious and I must admit I am getting a little drained. So I will rest for a few days and work on something else. I am anxious to finish the set and will eventually get back to them.

Once again, this is all polymer clay in 3d design. It is not painted except for small touch up and the end to brighten up the flowers. I also antique the houses to give them more depth.

Here's all of them thus far. It is starting to look like a little village.

My 3rd Polymer Clay Village House

Darn, these are just too fun! I was not going to do a fourth but I think I will. They are still calling me. I want to learn a few more methods for them because come holiday time I want to try to make some pretty holiday cottages.

This one is called Lambert's House. It was the hardest one Ive done so far due to the extra little side door area and also the walk. The roof also took some time.

Each of these takes about two days, however, keep in mind they are done in stages and have to let clay cool, paint dry, sealant dry, etc.

The leaves and flowers are also a bit time consuming as well. However, once you are at that stage, it's the final touches and your elated to have the house almost done.

Tiny Polymer Clay Village Houses

I have been slightly distracted from my doll art. I was in the library getting a book to read and I happen to find this great book on Creating Polymer Clay villages by Gail Ritchey.

It intrigued me, so I checked it out of the library and went home. Well, let me tell you, it sat on my art table for a few days before I did anything. I just loved the little houses in the book, but it kept screaming out to me "ohhh my goodness ... sooo much work, SIGH.... so tedious, too complicated". Because that is how these houses looked; really detailed, tiny little houses with lots of colored clay.

Well, the type of person I am, I felt challenged. I loved the houses so much I was determined to try one. I mean really .... how complex can it be?? I assemble dolls on armatures, sculpt detailed little tiny faces and paint their eyes, do costuming, wings, and hair! So let's get started!!

My first one did take quite awhile. I went slow, read the instructions thoroughly. I really wanted it to turn out just like the photos in the book. Well, everything went perfectly step by step. The book had great instructions and the author did a really fabulous job. You will create what you see in this book!

After the first one, I was hooked! It was so much fun and quite surprisingly it was not as hard as I thought. Just tedious and time consuming. Which I am used to anyway. After the first one was finished, I just had to do another one.

Here are my two little village houses. They are made entirely of polymer clay. Only a small tiny amount of paint is added at the every end for antiquing and maybe brightening up some of the flowers a hint. But overall, all the color is the clay color and color mixing.

I am starting my third one because I just can't help myself. its just too much fun right now!

I learned some great things with constructing 3d objects in polymer clay. This was totally out of my realm but I managed to finish two and they really excite me. I am now thinking of holiday and Christmas shops, ohhhhh how much fun!

I decided to buy the book since its so fabulous and it can be useful for applying other methods within my sculpting. I always learn something when I venture out of my norm. Something different and refreshing in order to renew my creativity!

My first two, complete with felted bottoms for displaying on a nice shelf or table. So much fun!
