I'll bet you don't roll out of bed and think about making your own PC before breakfast. Even you do, I bet you haven't actually shipped. Here's someone who has.

I reached out to the creator of the Tauon PC-1, Volodymyr Mishyn who kindly took more than a little time to answer some detailed questions about the PC-1, how it came to be, the challenges of a project like this, his future plans for Tauon OS and what is clearly a very personal labour of love.

Your news blog suggests 30 days to prototype, and 6 months to ship! If that is right, it is very impressive, given the technical and logistical activities that had to occur. Is there more to this story?

I was looking for available options before I started the project. I got myself a couple PI (3B, Zero) OrangePi, C-SKY. And tried to build some kind of educational PC for my kid.

Unfortunately, the performance was awful, using Linux was too complicated even for me (I have no experience in desktop Linux. However I have some in server administration, can setup LAMP, nginx etc.)

Also, this was not my first attempt to launch something in production. I had previous (failed, in all regards except for experience) project - RevolVR. The biggest delay was with case molds, it took really more time than it should. So while most of the project was done in 5-6 months, just to make casing took additional 3-4 months. And I don't consider it perfect.

When did you start shipping units? How many units have you shipped?

The first computers were sent at the end of January 2020. Some of them were sent to YouTubers, some were sent as samples to governmental institutions of small countries. Some were sent to my alma mater school.

In total, for today about 500 units were distributed. About half of them for free.

For you personally, what would be a nice number of shipped units for the project to hit?

I have 2000 pcs already produced. If I manage to distribute all of them (not necessarily for money) I would be happy.

How big do you estimate the user community is?

Not big enough yet :)

Are you where you would like to be at this stage of the PC-1’s life?

All that coronavirus situation of course affected sales a lot. I had a couple of interested parties to whom I might sell 1000+ PCs. But now all these developments are suspended. Also, sales on the USA market dropped almost to 0. Before this "pandemic" I was getting 50% orders from USA and 50% from EU/UK. Now its 10%/90% . This is in terms of sales.

However, other my goals were achieved: design, manufacture and get the real product to the market, impart interest to computers to my son. So even if I will have to distribute the rest of the computers for free as charity - I will still consider this as a successful project for me.

Do you have any data on your users, eg: age, where they are from, why they bought a Tauon PC-1? Has the data matched your expectations for who would buy the PC-1?

No, I don't have these kinds of stats. About half of the units sold as "Educational computers", with another half being sold as "Computers for retro-gaming". Hopefully, at least some of them will teach some kids on computing.

There are only 5 people in your team. Alexander must be at school mostly (or maybe remote learning), and Vladimir must find it hard to code in the dark, so there’s really only 3.5 of you. Is this a full time job for all of you?

Big part of the work on the project is done by me. Including case 3d model, and even manuals design. I hired people only to resolve specific tasks for a very limited time. In other case, I could not offer this product at such a low price. I'm working 14/7 on this project.

It must be difficult with such a small team. If you could have more help, what areas would this be in?

At this point, I don't see how bigger team could help me to move faster. However, more testers giving feedback would be highly appreciated.

Have your Chinese partners been able to provide you with all the technical information and support you need, to develop for this board? Is there any technical information they are unable to provide, for legal, commercial or technical reasons? Has this held you back in any way?

They really helped me a lot. However, sometimes it was faster to do reverse-engineering than get help from them. Not because they didn't try to help, but because they don't have deep knowledge of the board and firmware.

Allwinner is selling the boards and provide an SDK. Sunvell usually just makes cosmetic changes for the final customer. Also, they are very busy with big orders, it's basically a miracle that they decided to spend their time to help me at all, considering such a small quantity. I am highly appreciating this.

All Chinese companies I'm working with are great, all tried to help a lot. And none tried to scam or fraud me. This is absolutely amazing - if you tried to run a "real world business" you would know what I mean.

As so much depends on your personal efforts, the users will want to know: how sustainable and resilient is the company?

At this point, unfortunately, the project completely depends on me. Hopefully in the future with the community growing bigger this would change.

The PC-1 is meant to be a simple, affordable, family computer. Yet, modern PCs and phones are already affordable, and can do everything the PC1 can. If you already have a phone or PC, you don’t really need a PC1. If you have neither, you would be inclined to get a “real” device first, instead of a PC1. So, while you consider this a general computing device, has the truth of this difficult logic meant you are selling more to a niche, not a general user?

Of course, this is niche product. For geek parents and geek kids. I personally don't consider the skills of using the touchscreen as something worthy. And you don't have a lot of "real" computers in this price range.

Why not cater more and market specifically to the natural users of this, the hackers, makers and amateur coders? You already encourage people to put different boards in the case😊. And the Allwinner-H3 is an OrangePi, after all.

I'm trying to reach all audiences. Hopefully, the more the community will grow, the more people will know about this product.

You have clearly put a lot of work into TauonOS. Do you have a roadmap for the OS? What is your ultimate vision for it?

The ultimate version of it will contain much less of Android itself. With the ability to launch both native Linux and Android apps.

Because it is a customised Android 7.1, at some people who don't look carefully will see this as a “lazy” effort to create a “quick and dirty” computer, with minimal development effort. This must be upsetting. Can you shed some light on how much technical effort was involved in getting TauonOS to where it is today, and how much remains to be done? What are the challenges in building something like Tauon OS?

The main problem is the huge size of the codebase. Fixing or changing anything in 25+ Gb of sources is not an easy task.

A big part of the effort was put into optimizing AOSP [Android Open Source Project] and "fixing" some (intentional?) bugs in AOSP.

After working on this project, I think here is Google's monetization model: yes, you can use AOSP for free in your project. But it has so many little problems and slowdowns, that it makes your product unstable and almost unusable. Want all this fixed? Pay us money and we will provide patches to fix all these issues.

That is why many Chinese products based on AOSP are so unstable and buggy. Lack of documentation on internal AOSP structure and confusing (intentionally?) comments don't make the task of fixing easier. Some parts of the AOSP seems to be written by undergraduate school students. Making the mouse work properly and adding "Gamepad" mode wasn't easy at all.

Are there less obvious features of Tauon OS that you would like users to know about?

Apart from "gamepad mode" in the future, I'm planning to change the behavior of the mouse, so that left click and mouse down would be considered by the system as touch input, making more software compatible with Tauon PC.

Due to the horrible architecture of the input subsystem, this is not as easy as it seems. I wouldn't promise this anytime soon, as this task has low priority to me. The next plans for the OS is to get rid of SystemUI monster process, which consumes a lot of resources and has no use to me except of task switching and task-killing.

Why did you choose to customise Android, instead of a mainline Linux distro?

I don't consider Linux in its current state as OS for beginners. As I stated earlier, I tried to use Raspbian for the purpose of teaching, but it's impossible. Even to install or find software in need - its a mess. Android on the other hand has a lot of educational software and games built for it. Also, the manufacturer of the boards didn't have Linux distro for it, nor had tools or experience to help me. If I decided to base this project on Linux, it would probably never finished.

This is a pretty unique product for the simple fact that it comes with a prerooted Android 7.1, and has a keyboard. Can you point to a toolchain for Android app development that would run directly on the Tauon, so this could be used as an Android development device, running on Android itself?

At the moment you can use 2 programming languages - Mobile Basic and N-Ide Pascal to write code on Tauon. Also, I'm working on Tauon Basic - a very simple framework and IDE, based on JS. While it doesn't allow yet to compile code into binary - this feature will be available in the future.

The good thing in this approach is that with very small changes, the same apps will run on Linux, Windows, Android and Mac OS. You can check an alpha of the language (in your browser) here:

Can you point the community to any resources for beginning Android development on the PC-1?

Any apps made for Android 7 should run ok on TauonPC, if they can be controlled with mouse, keyboard or gamepad.

There is already a mainline Fedora32 Linux image which runs well enough, but is still “unofficial”. Linux is at the front of many of your user’s minds on the forum for sure. Do you have any plans to officially support a common Linux distro?

The biggest drawback of the current Linux distro is the lack of drivers for NAND storage. I don't consider it as a usable alternative without this.

Are you familiar with the Maximite computers? Or, ironically, the “Tau” bare metal OS? This datasheet: documents so much low level information about the hardware, that I can’t help but think that it would be possible – not trivial - to boot straight into a “modern” 8- bit “OS” experience, like a Spectrum or a C64. That is, turn it on and boot straight to a blinking cursor, a programming language as the “OS”, and with the ability to make direct calls to hardware, or at least to the storage, sound, graphics hardware, and at least one external interface. Any plans for anything like this?

Yes, I'm familiar. But I think this is even more geekier product than mine! As for bare metal OS - I really have enough work to do with current OS and TBS.

Also soon some funny firmware would be available, based on TauonOS. I have sent a couple of devices to the developer of ZXBaremulator for RPI. However, he warned me in advance that it would be impossible to make ZXBaremulator compatible with my hardware, so I wouldn't expect any bare OS any time soon.

Can you please get Termux to work? I’ve had no luck😊.

At this moment I really don't have time to spend on this. You can reach hentacler on the forum in this regard. This guy has written the whole Wayland manager for android, "Sparkle". he probably could help you with this.

Why not make Tauon OS open source?

I can give access to sources by request. However, to assemble OS I use another tool, provided by the board manufacturer. They asked me not to share this tool, and I will not do so. So while you can compile and assemble Tauon OS from the sources, it would not compile into the identical firmware.

Where would you like Tauon to be by the end of this year?

I'll continue the development of the OS and tools as long as I am able to do so. The bigger question is where will the World be at the end of the year. I'm afraid we haven't even seen the beginning of the crisis yet!

Is there anything else you would like to share?

Tauon PC-1 review

You should give this a chance. It deserves one.

Welcome to the Tauon PC-1.

A Tauon is an incredibly geeky sciency thing, as it happens, and has nothing to do with the Great Eastern Philosopher.

You won't find it for sale anywhere other than on Tauon's website, and on ebay so far as I can see, and then only if you're a regular visitor of the ebay "vintage computer hardware" category. It won't even turn up on ebay if you search for the product name: "Tauon PC1" - you'll just stumble upon it one day, when you're looking for a replacement floppy drive, or a C64.

So, what is it?

It's a computer in a dinky little case!

Hardware wise, it has:

Allwinner H3 Quad Core SOC [1ghz to 1.2ghz/1gb RAM/8GB internal NAND storage]
SD slot
USB slot,
HDMI and composite out
Ethernet
Wifi
UART (send/receive signals through terminal commands)
I2C (drivers aren't ready yet, but promised).

Inside the case - yes it's one of those all in one SOC boards - assembled by Sunvell:

It runs Tauon OS (v .991 at time of writing), a customised Android 7.1.

I know though, that's not what you saw in the picture.

No, it's not a generic USB keyboard. It's a computer, as in personal computer, like the one that you had in your bedroom when you were 12, before cubicles and beige boxes turned them into boring utilitarian appliances with no personality. If that sounds quaint, archaic, and these days, just a weird, and absolutely the wrong way, to describe, well - a computer - and yet, you are intrigued and absolutely must have one, then this is for you.

The real question though is: why this exists at all? (You know what I mean.)

I suspect the Tauon team a Ukrainian startup, have struggled with this very question as well. This is built to a price. The story of this device, reading between the lines, reveals struggle throughout, an admittedly romantic assumption grounded in no more than conjecture, but that makes me like it so much more. This was dreamed up, nurtured, honed and loved, however humble its final appearance.

It's a budget product, without a doubt. It's light as a feather. Its case design is unpretentious, dull, going for that library terminal look. It comes in a repurposed keyboard box. If looks matter, this will not do, and it is not for you.

As for the why, Tauon settled on describing it as a "kid friendly family computer". The mission here is a cheap uncomplicated computer that kids can use with a minimum of fuss, to learn to program and to play games on. It's certainly equipped for the programming part: the keyboard is where a chunk of its undeniably small production budget was deployed; it's the right size, and it's decent.

Sadly, "kid friendly family computer" is probably the worst thing to call any product intended for kids. It's down there with "educational toy", and guaranteed only to irredeemably damage sales. The world has moved on: watch the spark in the eye of the kid in your life vanish into tantrummy disappointment, as you explain to the brat why the Tauon is what they really want, not a Nintendo Switch. I hope and want to be very wrong, but while Tauon's stated mission is noble, and absolutely necessary for these times, I also fear it is Sisyphean - as far as many of today's kids, and family units, for that matter, are concerned.

On the other hand, the PC1 is incredibly appealing to the parents of the kids it is aimed at. Indeed, there are kids who will want this - they are just much older. The PC-1 channels the spirit of an 80's 8-bit: your Sinclair Spectrum, Amstrad CPC, BBC Micro, C64, TI-99 or Apple II. Perhaps if it were painted:

Turn it on, and the scene is set with a callback to a simpler computing time: a pixelated Tauon OS logo, foreshadowing what this whole thing is really about:

Ahhh, memories.

This is a retro computing lover's and hacker's delight.

It ships with a preconfigured Retroarch and so is potentially every retro system retroarch can be. It runs Android apps via Apkpure app (no Google play), so you have all that stuff to play with as well.

How good is emulator performance? Watch from 5:48:

Whether that's good enough for you, you'll have to decide for yourself, of course. Everyone's threshold for lag and accuracy flaws is different. It's more than fine for me, good enough to have a lot of fun if casual retro gaming is your thing. It will doubtlessly be an abomination for any emulation purist questing for frame perfect fidelity, but these are the same people who buy stereo cables that cost twice as much as the PC-1, and this is not meant for them either.

To treat this as solely as a retro gaming console though, is missing the point, as the package is also missing a controller. In its place though, is that keyboard. This then, is about using your c64 after you finished WizBall, and had no more pocket money for a new game.

The Tauon makes a case for itself as a convenient way to repent for those never learned BASIC or assembly skills, or to brush up on them again, but with modern conveniences like HDMI and SD storage. It costs a lot less than a single C64 Maxi or Spectrum Next, and emulates many more systems. Really, there's nothing quite like it around, unless you roll your own board of choice into a keyboard, which Tauon kind of assume you might want to do sometime anyway, and so they made it easy.

It would be a shame to gut the PC-1 quite so quickly. The value created by the developer behind it hides in plain sight, in the customizations of Tauon OS. It will strike you as an oddity, and the workspace looks like your mum's hand me down phone on TV-out at first glance, but it's stable, responsive, and undeniably easy to use.

Important but easily missed features, like a dedicated home and back key and single click switchable keyboard to gamepad mode, robust HDMI implementation (works on every screen I've thrown at it, including some TV from the dawn of time) seem so obvious when they just work, it's easy to forget that they often do not, in budget gear. Tauon is working on Taoun BASIC Script, which is in 0.26 alpha here: https://tauonelectronics.com/TauonBasicWebAlpha/ . [Update 4/7/2020 Now built into Tauon OS v.994] And a driver for that I2C port.

If you do feel the need to stray, the PC-1 will boot into Fedora32 Linux from SD card, with absolutely no need to burn bootloaders or any such unnecessary deviousness (and leaving Tauon OS on internal NAND unchanged):

Linux support is community based and nascent, but real due to Linux Legend Hentacler (SD image is here: FTP 62.171.128.19/ [Login: tauon Pw: tauon]).

Tauon have established a small but surprisingly informative forum. They are accessible, and clearly trying - the latest OS is v.991 was released pretty much immediately to fix a forum raised bug, for instance. Hopefully they will share their roadmap for Tauon OS and the PC-1 itself when they have time. I hope the Tauon community will continue to grow.

So, should you get one?

This is an already very usable computer. If the worst should happen, you've got yourself a nice case.

If Santa was kind this year, he may have brought you one of these:

If Santa did, you'll have worked out by now that 64 built-in games, classics though some of them are, is simply not enough.

Your travels may have led you to this c64 romset: https://archive.org/details/C64Romset , which contains 17,068 games.

If you pop them on a USB stick and slip it into your c64 Maxi/Mini, only the first 256 games will appear. This is because there is a limit of 256 items per folder that can be displayed on the c64 mini/maxi loader.

So you need to split the games into individual folders, each containing no more than 256 items.

17,068 / 256 = 66 folders, which is quite a bit of copying, pasting, dragging and renaming. Don't do it..

I've hacked together a quick and dirty splitter to do the donkey work for you, so you can get back to Gianna Sisters (and Farmer's Daughter, while you're at it) ASAP.

Instructions

(Windows only)

If not already installed, install Python 3 from here.
Download splitter.py from here..
Unzip your romset into a folder and copy splitter.py to that folder.
Open a windows command line and launch the python script (ie: CD [Romset Folder] then python splitter.py )
All folders from the Romset folder will be moved to the root directory of the folder, into a new folder called c64Romset_output

Everything is connected in today's world. If you're surfing for Dingoos in 2015, you'll undoubtedly have come across websites based in China that are focused on only one thing: the production of every conceivable good, to fill the demand emanating from every inch of the infamous "long tail".

You won't of course have found any Dingoos for sale at acceptable prices - the Chinese factory system is brutal in it's rigour. Look to something running Android and that scratches your back as well. Often, competition works!

However, Christmas is practically (ok, kinda sorta ...) around the corner, and if you're at a loss for what to procure as a gift to your most precious, you could do a lot lot worse than this.

You don’t know what you’ve got until it’s gone. It wasn’t too long ago that an Android tablet with gaming controls was released every few months (and was supported for just about as long, but we won’t go there). After a while, our eyes glazed over and we all stopped looking.

And then, nothing. I don’t know why. Good however, comes with the bad. Just like staying away from incognito mode on your browser can heighten the sensation of its eventual relaunch, there is now a curvy new pronm queen on the block: the GPD XD. I want it.

4. Mr Do

You controlled a ballsy clown. Read that any way you like, pun intended, as this pixellated blob from the golden days of 25c arcades could finish levels in multiple ways - eat all fruit on screen, kill all pursuers with his ball, flattening them with fruit, or collecting randomly appearing letters to spell a word. All this while dodging enemies (what were they exactly?!) and tunnelling in the best possible way to create a torturous route which if done right, resulted in a killzone for your trusty balls of death! While always a classic, Mr Do never quite elicits the same response as Pac Man, which I put down to the fact that deep inside, we're all freaked out by Clowns. That's not Mr Do's fault however.

3. Bank Panic

This arcade gem looks today like something whipped up by a 3 year old - colourful blocky graphics and cheery simplistic music, but for gameplay it remains unique and unmatched. You control 3 gunsights. Yep, 3, at the same time, each mapped to a separate button. Doors open to reveal either bank customers or bandits, drawn cleverly to resemble customers. Shoot the bandits, don't shoot the customers. Perfect to pick up and play in 30 second bursts, this is the perfect subway game with a modern save state enabled console. This is just begging for an Android native version, or a clever Minecraft level mod remake.

2. Exciting Hour

Another relatively unknown arcade game, this wrestling slugfest lets you take on opponents like the (misspelt, or cleverly parodied) "Insane Worrier", and the politically incorrect "Cocoa Savage", obviously Quentin Tarantino's inspiration for Django. While there was only a joystick and 2 buttons, Technos managed to cram more than a dozen unique moves into the combos, setting the stage for later classics like Street Fighter 2 or today's incomprehensible UFC games.

1. Galaga

Galaga is Space Invaders evolved to perfection. After Galaga, the art evolved into scrolling Shoot Em Ups, for there was no more for the static screen shooter to achieve. Galaga was devilishly simple to learn, but almost impossible for the average player to conquer for more than 10 minutes, which I put down to being caused by extreme greed, once the rudimentary power up mechanics were discovered. Back in the day, you had to work hard for your money, as boosting the ship's capabilities involved a tortorous process of getting your ship tractor beamed, then frantically trying to blast the alien that captured it- and your reward for all this was simply two shots at a time! With no plot to speak of, the goal of this was only to score big, which consumed too many of my university hours and I'm sure cost thousands in lost earning potential. But hey, I got to experience gaming in its simplest, purest form, when the words "High Score AYY" meant something.

Universal Gamestreaming method

I posted a guide (in spanish, use translator) for gamestreaming our desktop consoles (PS3/X360/PS4/XOne).

The main goal of this guide is providing an universal method for streaming/gamestreaming our desktop consoles, and get them on our devices such Android consoles, allowing to play on it in normal way, using the android console controls directly, and get a new way to play on desktop consoles, even in remote (outside our local network).

This guide is part of the Guide for Gamestreaming that i published some days ago. (and is so extensive for translating to english for now)

Note: WiiU is not included for now because there are some tech problemas that don´t allow to use this device for streaming.

The client devices may be from many kind.

The client of the streaming depends on the the streaming solution you choice.

The guide includes these three alternatives, because with this is possible to bring some alternatives for people that don´t have a compatible NVidia GPU for use within LimeLight, the other solutions may work fine for other GPUs.

The solution is divided in two parts:

Part 1: Streaming audio/Video from your desktop console to some device to be used as screen, and play using the normal controller connected to their desktop console

Part 2: once you get the part 1 running, you can control your desktop console by the client streaming device, and with this allowing remote gamestreaming (outside your local network)

Part 1: Audio/Video Streaming

With this, you can play on your desktop console using something similar to gameklip, or directly on your tablet using the desktop console controller.

You will need:

A capture card for your video output from desktop console
A software for previewing the video captured. (Debut, Totalmedia Extreme 2, TV View, etc. Any software that don´t generate lag in the image)
A software for streaming (Limelight, Kainy, Splashtop THD)
A tablet, smartphone, etc. that will be the client of streaming
A desktop console that you want to stream, and a wireless controller (you will play with this, connected to their console)

Part 2: Complete GameStreaming (Audio/Video/Control)

If you need control your desktop console from your device, i.e. for remote playing, then you will need:

A capture card for your video output from desktop console
A software for previewing the video captured. (Debut, Totalmedia Extreme 2, TV View, etc. Any software that don´t generate lag in the image)
A software for streaming (Limelight, Kainy, Splashtop THD)
A tablet, smartphone or similar with a gamepad connected, or an android console etc.

Rom Installation:
1. Download Rockchip Batch Tool 1.7: http://www.cloudstor.es/file/m1_OTM0OA/
2. Connect your S7800B to your computer via USB 2.0 (avoid USB 3.0 ports).
3. Power up your device and run the file RKBatchTool.exe (requires administrator) on your computer.
4. You'll note the tool shows a pink color indicating the status (device is connected).
5. Click the "Switch" button and your device will reboot. Install drivers via Device Manager.
6. Press the "Reset" button your device, wait for it to boot up.
7. Again, click the "Switch" button, this time the area above will turn green - programming mode ready (if it doesn't you didn't install the driver).
8. Select the desired flash image file (.img) and press "Restore".
Power Button/Sleep Fix (RK3188-T users):
For those people who have the power button/sleep bug in most custom roms (RK3188-T users) you will also need to flash the extracted kernel.img from Webclaws 2G/SPECIAL rom.

Rockbot is an open-source, SDL based, game engine to replicate old style Rockman (aka Megaman) games, being as close as possible to Rockman 1-6, and an editor made with Qt, for custom graphics, weapons, bosses, enemies and level creation.

A must have game to run on your Dingoo Dingux and Android game console.

ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the games, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed!

It is rare that 80’s presidential politics has much to say about 2014 gaming, but then, black swans appear, like now.

After months of speculation, Nvidia has confirmed that its impending Nvidia Shield 2 gaming device is a … tablet?! Tablet? Yes, let’s call a spade a spade. It’s a well specced beast of a tablet, but the fact is that unlike the Shield 1, which was a daring, hideously ugly but damned functionally excellent piece of gaming kit for the handheld android (retro)gamer, the Shield 2 looks to be JAFT – just another frickin’ tablet, with an optional controller.

Optional.

Look, here it is; so optional, it’s floating in space. Which is, of course, the subliminal message of this image: to gamers, the Shield 2’s optional controller is as optional as air in space.

When the Shield 1 was released, the general consensus of reviewers was that it was a bold move to dominate a niche market, but that more time was needed to see if this would pay off for Nvidia. Time appears to have told its tale. Close, but no cigar, and obviously, no payoff! While the Shield 1 was undoubtedly the best handheld device of its class, it appears that with Shield 2, Nvidia is confirming that the market for a truly handheld android gaming device just isn’t big enough to sustain continued product development in that direction. With the confirmation that Shield 2 really IS a glorified tablet, fans of handheld (retro)gaming are going to have to wait a bit longer for their dream product.

This is a collection of ROM's for all JXD S7800B devices (3188 & 3188-T SoC's). These ROM's include a working vSync fix (resolves frame dropping issues) in games and when playing back video / movies. Why are there so many ROM releases?
The JXD S7800B is a pretty unique device. Two versions of this unit exist, and each require a different kernel to get the best speed of out them. Fix one issue, and it breaks RK3188-T devices, fix another and RK3188 users have problems. It's very hard to balance both. Competition out there really is focused on RK3188-T devices - which means they are slower but only have a single kernel (so modifications are easy to test). Further, there were many ROM versions released by JXD (.05, .08, .09, .14, and .16). JXD never released very good release notes on what changes were in these ROM's. This doesn't help ROM developers like me as now I and the community have to test things to find out! Lastly, JXD has not released the a source Kernel, so updates and fixes are nothing more than hackjobs.

Xump - The Final Run is a simple multi-platform puzzler by Retroguru. Initially released by Psilocybin Development in 2005 the game has been improved in almost every aspect you can imagine. New graphics, new levels, new music, new options, new everything...

Help Holger to clean up deserted space fields. As this is a very dangerous task for a human being a headbot named Xump will be the one who has to suffer.

Your main task is to clean all dissolveable tiles on several single-screen levels by simply stepping on them, one by one. Few fields are secured with mines and need a double tap. Mines can be blown up when passing by or deminded by Xump when staying on this specific field for a short moment. Certainly the mission sounds easier than it will be.

Added new UAE4All build with sound fix for the Dingoo A-380.

The swap file is moved to the External MicroSD card in this version to improve the read/write times with the FinalBurn Alpha emulator. There's also an updated SDL VICE build with sound fix and a new UAE4All build with sound fix for the Dingoo A-380.
Lot's of Commodore love with this release.
Thanks a lot to retrodd for his help with testing the new CFW and updated emulators.

Here's an updated SDL-VICE version for the Dingoo A-380, A-320e and A320 (OpenDingux).

Note: Compiled with the OpenDingux toolchain. Remember to change the resolution from 320 pixels to 400 pixels on a Dingoo A-380 (with factory kernel) and a Dingoo A-320e. Tweaked for maximum performance with sound fix. Runs almost every game full speed with good sound. There's a sound bug in VICE or SDL that makes the sound terrible with VICE.
To work around this issue start a game. When the game is loaded and starts to run press the SELECT button on your Dingoo to enter the Configuration Menu. Go to the sound settings and disable the sound. Press the left twice to go back to the game. Repeat these steps to enable the sound again and enjoy your game with good sound like you expect it to be.
