With the rise of the modern cell phone, people are finding new ways to overcome life’s challenges. These mini computers can be equipped with simple programs that are changing the way we view our day to day needs.

This new cell phone trend is taking over the cyber world. It’s all about the apps in today’s cell phone market. Need to kill time while waiting, keep up with Facebook, plan a diet, or straight up organize your life? Well there is an app for that.

App Providers

There are two main types of application programs. Mac Apple and Android control the app market. Different portable devices run the different brands. Some apps are, however, available by both brands.

Android apps are used for devices that run on Microsoft programming. Manufacturers include, but are not limited to: LG, Dell, HP, Sony, Motorola, Toshiba, Sharp, and Samsung. Any phones made by these companies can only use Android apps. This also applies to the Kindle and Nook e-readers.

Apple apps are used on all apple products. They provide programming for the iPod, iPhone, iPad, and all Mac computers.

Some apps are designed to support both the programming for the Apple and Android markets.

Cool Things You Can Do With Apps

It is no wonder that apps have become so popular. They make your lives so much easier. When the first cell phones came out they had limited features such as clock, calculator, and a calendar (just told the date). With progression we were able to have features that many of us take for granted such as caller ID, mini games, contacts lists, photo taking, video camera, and now internet capabilities.

Apps have taken the basic phone abilities and enhanced them. You can now have a video call with friends and family across the world with Skype. You can use Photo Shop to redesign a picture and add text on it. Then you can send it to your Facebook page. All these can be done on the newer phones or tablets.

If you get bored easily then there are hundreds of thousands of games available. There are education games. Luminosity increases brain function by working your memory and problem solving skills. There are apps to teach you to play instruments or read music.

Apps are even available to make long trips easier. Google maps GPS can tell you where you are and get you to where you want to be. If you like reading, there is an app that will read your e-books to you as you drive. You can watch movies using Netflix or Hulu while you are away from home. This will come in handy for noisy passengers.

Parental settings now allow limited functions for kids. Little kids love buttons. They like playing games on your phone. You no longer have to worry about them making calls to China or adding unwanted charges to your phone.

Taking care of shopping, meal planning, budgeting, babysitting, business meetings, and anything you can think of can be done in a snap. Or, maybe I should say with an app.

There are a lot of options to consider when purchasing cell phone services. Do I want to sign up for a contract or should I get a prepaid phone is the number one decision? There are advantages and disadvantages to both services.

Prepaid plans

Getting a prepaid phone is usually much easier. Purchasing a phone and a plan are not determined by eligibility criteria such as: age, credit history, job status, and bank account information. For a young person, just starting to pay for their own phone, prepaid plans are usually a better choice.

Prepaid phones can be activated using cards or codes purchased from most retailers. Gas stations now sell these activation methods. They can be purchased by the number of minutes or a monthly service. The prices of these range based on how much talk time you need and messaging options. There are even prepaid plans that come with free monthly minutes and are available to people with low income or part of a welfare program. These are sponsored by the government as part of the Lifeline program.

911 calls are available on all the phones even if you run out of minutes as long as the phone has been activated.

Most prepaid services do not have data plans. Those that do can be much more expensive than just getting a contract. Prepaid services do not have fixed rates. The price you pay for 500 minutes one month could be more the following month. There are rarely sales on these either.

Contracts

The biggest perk of a contract phone is security. You never have to worry about running out of minutes. If you forget to get a new card before the month expires you know your phone will still ring. People that rely heavily on their phone should use the contract services.

Credit checks are not used as often as they were in the past for signing phone contracts. It is well worth the time to see if you qualify for a plan. Most working people do.

The phone options available goes up exponentially when you have a contract. It is not only the phones themselves, but the types of extras you can get. The cases, skins, and charger styles increase as well. The added protection of insurance is a bonus too. We all know accidents happen, so insurance is a great idea, especially when your phone was more than $100.

Choosing a Provider

There are a number of cell phone providers out there. Make sure you do your research. Compare the plans of the prepaid services to the similar contract plans of the same companies first. Compare minutes, text options, picture mail options, and data usage options.

Be realistic about what you need from your phone. People that talk on the phone a lot tend to find they run out of minutes very quickly with prepaid plans. This mean they have to wait until pay day to talk.

Those dirt cheap plans that are out there that offer unlimited talk and text, beware! The service areas are usually not that good. If you live or travel to the country or mountains, then go with a provider with a larger coverage area. Most of the larger companies do not charge roaming anymore, so that helps for the frequent travelers.

Providers to start out your online search might include Verizon, T-Mobile, Trac phone, Sprint and AT&T. Try calling these companies and ask them what they can do for you.
