Our cable vendor was able to complete some repairs to our cable system yesterday. Unfortunately, he needs to make a 2nd trip to campus to finish up his work. This visit will take place next week at which time he should be able to restore cable services to your living units.

As you are going through your graduation to-do list, schedule time to preserve your email and other data from your DePauw IT accounts. In the following, you will learn the timeline for when your primary DePauw IT accounts will no longer be available to you, resources you can use to preserve email and other data, and information on services available to DePauw alumni.

Network

Be sure you save any documents you wish to keep from your class (I:) drive, personal (P:) drive, and Web (W:) drive before the end of October 2016.

e-Services

To request a transcript after October 31, 2016, browse to the transcript ordering portal on the Registrar’s Transcripts website.

Google Apps (email, calendar, drive, etc.)

Download a copy of the Google Apps data you want to keep, including your email, calendar, and more, by going into My Account → Control your content → Copy or move your content → Create archive found in the Download your data section. Once started, archives may take a few minutes, several hours, or days to create depending on how much data you have selected to download. Be sure to start this process before the middle of October 2016 so there is plenty of time for your archive to be completed. DePauw’s Office of Alumni Engagement provides opportunities to connect with DePauw and fellow alumni through the Online Directory and EverTrue. Through the Online Directory, you can update your contact information, as well as search for and connect with fellow DePauw alumni. You can also download the EverTrue Alumni App. This app for iPhone, iPad, and Android devices allows you mobile access to the alumni directory and provides mapping functionality based on business address to search for classmates and fellow alumni around the world. Greetings, Faculty and Staff Colleagues.

DePauw has arranged for a campus-wide subscription to Box.com, a secure online storage and collaboration environment with unlimited quota for faculty, staff, and students.

Ultimately, Box at DePauw (box.depauw.edu) will replace the current P:, U: and I: drives for individual and shared institutional documents, and its web-based interface will enable secure access from any mobile networked device. Box also provides an App which syncs Box files with your desktop and other devices so you can access them locally and when offline.

Today we will launch the process to begin creating and distributing Box accounts for faculty and staff. This is an automated process that will take several days for the Box system to complete. While that is underway, you can find more details about the timeline and what you can expect to see during the full rollout later in this message.

Information Services will also provide ongoing updates by email and on online, and will offer face-to-face orientation sessions to demonstrate Box features and uses. In the meantime, you can learn more about DePauw’s Box at Box at DePauw.

A gentle reminder about the removal of overhead transparency projectors and VCRs from classrooms that was announced in Carol Smith’s August 18th “Starting the Year with Information Technology at DePauw – Fall 2015” email.

In addition to equipment upgrades in classrooms, we conducted a general tidying up and removed the overhead transparency projectors and VCRs from all technology classrooms. If you need a transparency projector or a VCR for a class, we will gladly put one back in the room for the semester (or year, whichever best suits your needs), but this change will eliminate the clutter of unused equipment sitting in corners taking up space and gathering dust.

To request a transparency projector or a VCR for a classroom, please email HelpDesk@depauw.edu with the building, room number, and when your next class meets so we can deliver it in time for your next class.
