Author Corinne Demas meets our audience. Her most recent novel The Writing Circle received praise from authors like Anita Shreve, who called it "an amazingly clever novel with depth, drama, and warmth." Not only has the prolific author written a novel, but also she has published plays, short stories, children's books, and a memoir - all while teaching as a professor of English at Mount Holyoke College. Come and enjoy her insight and discussion.
This 1952 favorite stars Kirk Douglas and Lana Turner. An
actress, a director, and a writer are asked to help revive the career of
ruthless Hollywood studio bigwig Jonathan
Shields. However, all three are reluctant because they have all been used and
betrayed by him in the past. . Flashbacks explain why. Topnotch performances
and energetic direction make this movie a must-see.

Focus on Dennis Photo Contest

naturalist John Root introduces our
audience to species of trees, shrubs, canes, vines, and herbaceous perennials
that can grow and bear fruit in our region. You’ll learn about organic
gardening practices that promote healthy soils, plants, and biotic communities.
These benefits of organic gardening help ensure abundant crops of fruits, nuts,
and vegetables throughout the growing season - with minimal effort. Bring your
questions and comments; John is ready for them! Afterwards, you’ll get handouts
with a list of edible perennial plant species, resources for further study, and
recommended sources of seeds and plants.

Vanishing of the Bees film and discussion

The film Vanishing of the Bees takes a piercing investigative look at the economic, political, and spiritual implications of the worldwide disappearance of the honeybee (aka Colony Collapse Disorder). It also examines the current agricultural landscape and celebrates the ancient and sacred connection between humans and honeybees.
The former rock drummer's debut novel Tinkers won the 2010 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. Tinkers patiently traces the meandering memory of a dying clockmaker. Harding moves through time with Proustian grace. No detail is too small for him to stop the narrative clock and stare. Meticulous description does not propel a plot (as anyone who reads Virginia Woolf well understands), but the heart of Harding's book lies in this consistently lovely deluge of detail. His dogged specificity never flags, and in the end it is this passionate attention to detail that makes "Tinkers" a riveting and perhaps enduring read.

[Text courtesy of http://moreintelligentlife.com/blog/alexander-benaim/qa-paul-harding-author-pulitzer-prize-winner]

AARP Driver Safety Program

Saturday, April 21 from 10:00 - 2:30

Spring is here! Through a colorful slide presentation, discover the osprey’s amazing abilities and life history, how the species has recovered from the DDT (insecticide) years, and how Mass Audubon is monitoring their nests in hopes of attracting more ospreys to the region.

A Chat with Burt & Phyllis

Saturday, March 24th at 12:30 pm

Join Burt Derick and Phyllis Horton, historians from the Dennis Historical Society.
