Asian Navies Maintain Course Despite Economic Slowdown

Defense business in the Asia-Pacific region continues despite economic slowdown. Market projections by AMI International, reveal that GDP growth in the region is slowing but will remain positive for almost every country in the South and Southeast Asian naval market. Reflecting this reality is the naval exhibition IMDEX 2009, which, according to Deputy General Manager Mr Chandran Nair, has been sold out. IMDEX Asia is the premier maritime defense exhibition in the region; according to Mr. Nair the show's strong performance emphasizes the importance of defense of the seas in the region, despite the present economic climate. The exhibition and conference taking place at the Singapore Expo from 12-14 May is expected to attract over than 5,500 trade visitors from 50 countries and VIP delegations from 35 countries. The event will be officially opened by Mr Teo Chee Hean, Singapores Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defence.
