Having a gym or exercise room right inside your house is an excellent idea if you want you and your family stay fit and healthy. By doing so, you have no more excuse for not exercising. You do not need to get up early since you can exercise any time of the day. Also, there is no need for you to drive or commute just to go to a gym. On top of that, you can use your gym forever so you save money on gym membership fees, which are quite expensive.

I have been looking around for inspiration and tips on how to set up a home gym without breaking the bank. So here, I’m going to share with you some helpful tips and things to consider when setting up a home gym.

1.  In setting up a home gym, you do not need fancy and expensive equipment. All you need is an equipment to get your heart rate up for a cardio workout and some strength equipment to firm up.

2. Choose a corner in your house that you can put all your fitness gear. But, if you have a spare room for this, then that is so much better.

3. For basic equipment, these are the gear and equipment that most fitness guru recommend:

• Jump Rope:You can burn around 100 calories in just 10 minutes with this high-impact exercise.
• Free weights: A set of light dumbbells or a light barbell is fine if you’re just starting out. If you’re more advanced, you may want a range of sizes.
• Rubber Resistance Bands and Tubes: These simple gears mimic machine moves and target back, hip, and inner thigh muscles that are hard to hit with dumbbell exercises.
• Stability ball: This is a big ball that you can use for crunches, squats, sit-ups and for any exercise you may normally need a bench for, such as dumbbell presses.
• Cardio equipment: This is the area where you might need to spend more because equipment like elliptical trainer, treadmill or bicycle can cost more than a weighted jump rope. But, of course, if the weather permits, you can always go out and jog, walk or run. All you need is a good pair of running shoes.

Most importantly, exercising is also a good way to spend quality time with the family.  Thus, not only can it lead to better health, it can also help a family build better relationship.

Summer is the  best time to redecorate your porch. Having a comfortable front porch can expand your living room space that you can use for lounging or for entertaining guests. Having a porch bring to mind a welcoming, homey and relaxed atmosphere that reminds you to enjoy life at a slower pace. In the past, porch served as the “living room” of the home and therefore the social spot where one can converse with neighbors, cool off in summer and watch kids as they played in the front yard. Today,  the porch making a comeback as homeowners look for more outdoor living spaces and a welcoming transition into the house.

In decorating your porch, you have to bear in mind that it should look and feel like an extension of the overall interior of your home. You can opt for hammocks, porch swings or daybeds instead of the usual chairs and tables. The Victorian era of British history was the period of Queen Victoria’s reign from 1837  to 1901. It was said to be the age of imitation and reproduction. Every style from Gothic to rococo was revived during these years and most of the times, more than one style influenced a sole piece.

Thus, when we say Victorian living room, it essentially refers to something that is taken from this era. A Victorian living room is a formal yet busy room. During the early times, this kind of living room setup was used to show off a family’s finest pieces and collection.

1) Do not be afraid to use bright colors for your Victorian living room. Colors such as purple, mauve, bottle-green and red are just some of the favorites for Victorian designs.

2) For furniture, opt for pieces that are upholstered in velvet, brocade, needlepoint and/or crewel-embroidered fabrics, and add toss pillows. Exposed wood is typical on the upholstered furnishings; examples would be carved feet and legs, arm rests, and wood trim along the upper backs of chairs and sofas.

3) Use a variety of occasional tables – carved, bamboo, faux bamboo, marble-topped, spindled – near the seating. Set traditional-style lamps, especially porcelain ginger-jar types, atop the tables, with crocheted doilies underneath.

7) Accessorize the room with a wood-case grandfather clock, a tiered “whatnot” shelf and a fern stand. On tabletops, set out period-style collectibles (silver or brass candleholders, china dishes and glass paperweights).

8)  Place a patterned area rug, with a leaf or scroll design or an Oriental pattern, over the wall-to-wall carpet or hard-surface flooring in the room.
